Mors 2008-09-21 11:41:55 AM
Yeah. Sure.

Again I'll say it:
I keep seeing these opinion columns completely unbacked by fact.

They say things like "Obama is losing votes by comparing McCain with Bush, he needs to stop." What they really seem to mean, though, is "Obama is kicking our asses, and one area he really is scoring points is the whole Bush/McCain comparison. I wish he'd stop."

And then there's the "Obama is losing, so you idiots who are voting for him are throwing your votes away, you might as well give up" opinion piece. That's also a favorite of lots of Fark Independents on just about every political thread. But we can see, over and over and with empirical backing (fivethirtyeight, even Rasmussen and Gallup lately) that it's really swinging towards Obama in just about every demographic, of late. So what they must mean is "I wish Democrats were abandoning a sinking Obama campaign, and I hope that this one piece of spun trivia convinces everyone that's happening so more people will do it."

It's just sad.

NeverDrunk23 2008-09-21 11:44:56 AM
I like the last line in the article talking about Obama and the 'common man' and why this guy is voting for McCain:

That's sort of like John Kerry windsurfing during the 2004 election: Union members in Youngstown or in "Little Washington," Pa., just can't relate.

So, they have a hard time relating to Obama, but they have no problem relating to McCain. I guess that means that they too were a POW, captured for 5 years, owe 8 houses and 12 cars, married to a beer heiress, dumped their first wife and are running for president.

We had Joe Every American in office for 8 years. How did that all work out?

If union workers actually start voting GOP, I give up on this country altogether.

I'm Republican. And in a union--NWU, Local #5--and I won't be voting for McCain.

In part, because of this inability to come to grips with intellectual property rights as illustrated by his campaign so far. He has abused intellectual property to the point and it illustrates that while he might want to talk a good game about supporting intellectual property rights, his actual practice is something far different.

Actions speak far louder than words, and McCain's actions have pretty much sealed the deal for me. His inability to actually stick to an issue is another, but that's nothing new for McCain.

I think it's cute that astroturf articles are trying like heck to bolster sagging poll numbers. At least it pinpoints which papers are skewing their reporting. That's useful information to have.

Perhaps both the article writer, the Ohio union racist guy, and subby should check out 538 - we are thoroughly back into "Obama thrashes McCain" territory.

Just out of curiousity, how on EARTH can an Ohio union leader believe that McCain's and the GOP's policies could POSSIBLY help them?? Are they really that dumb, or is racism that powerful among Ohio retards?

The Republicans will tax the union workers more and the rich less.

The Democrats will put illegal tariffs on imports, leading to trade war, depression, and the union workers all being out of a job.

/ Nice choice.

But given the people who voted for Bush and now back McCain, maybe Satan can make a smarter ruler, but humanity can't make smarter voters.

/Farkers are going to hate me for saying this, but the electoral college was put in place so McCain/Palin could never take office. Of course, while I don't get Palin, i do respect her.
I have watched the women's movement evolve for quite a while. Sarah Palin has disrupted the gains made by the feminist in that she has not "payed her dues" according the the feminist standard. Women advanced themselves by being the "token woman" and the current feminists are still as attached to this concept as Wright is to Black Liberation Theology. As the token woman, the last thing one wants is to be replaced by the next token woman, so women at the top maintained that position by not mentoring younger women. As the years have passed, women have made it on their own, creating a variety of situations which balance career and family. Current feminists are more concerned with maintaing THEIR power and THEIR control than truely advancing women's issues. The public tolerates they feminists, but doesn't like them. Sarah, they love because she is authentic and she resonates with ordinary people. Sarah never saught, asked for or demanded the admiration she is getting and the elites and the feminists are angry that after all they have done to advance themselves, they are upstaged by someone who about serving the interests of others.

This is actually entirely true. It's the whole point of a representative democracy. We have our choice... but someone is going to check it first.

The selection of Palin by McCain's campaign should be considered treason, plain and simple. He's placed his country in direct danger for transient political gain.

Is it not conceivable that the MSM is up in a tizzy fit because an intelligent, beautiful, family and Christ centered woman is a professionally trained Journalist and that she is expressing an opinion that runs counter to the liberal journalistic speak of today?

Just something to think about.....

bartink 2008-09-21 02:21:13 PM
So lets see, the polling indicates it swinging hard towards Obama and its not just the convention bounce. Palin's favorability numbers are plummeting. McCain is beginning to sag in key swing states he must have. Obama is making progress in swing states that will give him the victory.

And some idiot just claims that reality isn't happening and it gets greenlit. Good luck with that.

Hmm...thought about it. Not it.

But way to double down on the liberal card and the sexism card.

We don't hate Palin because she's a woman. Actually most don't hate her at all. We just think she is completely unqualified to be VICE President, much less President and many of her beliefs run against the beliefs of the majority of Americans.

Hmmm. Some people who traditionally vote Democratic are, for this election, voting Republican, maybe because of race. A couple thousand, according to the article, and it could be many more.

Other articles, equally well researched, claim some Republicans will be switching their allegiance and voting for Obama.

If this isn't definitive for something or other, I don't know what the word means.

She went to (six) journalism schools. She is not a journalist, by trade or by skill. And what does "beautiful" or "Christ-centered" have any farking thing to do with her running?

Intelligent? She's proven to be even more inept in terms of knowledge of policy than McCain. They aren't letting her speak to the press except under the strictest softball conditions because she isn't savvy around them. She coasted in Alaska into offices that she then (allegedly) abused and she has no farking clue how to handle running with the big dogs.

Meanwhile, Obama ran for office in Chicago. It's like comparing someone taking karate at the YMCA to someone who was in the IDF for two years.

You really think this is about tokenism? Are you farking mental?

No, she never sought, asked for, or demanded the admiration. She never worked for it at all. She was the hail mary play McCain's campaign tried after the DNC convention, after the social conservatives put the kibosh on his first two choices (Ridge and Lieberman) for being pro-choice.

Palin was chosen without being vetted, and regardless of whatever incompetence, ignorance, or scandal floats around her people like you still embrace her fanatically because you have no other choice, politically, if you still want to win the election.

The Empress has no clothes.
