I wonder if he has a big cawk, cause I could use a transplant. Maybe he would donate it.

"Free attention" guy, maybe? That would be cool if he wasn't going to film the process and put it online.

I have this shirt:

www.snorgtees.com

Only heard about this guy after I wore it in public.

It's funny, though, watching people's faces when they see it. Their expressions often run through all sorts of anxieties - hopeful anticipation, fear, wary watchfulness. In a way, just by wearing the shirt - just by making it clear that there's a standing offer of NSA amiable physical contact - you invade their space a little bit, and it makes them uncomfortable. It's very interesting.

/hugs + squid = crazy delicious

Inaditch: Yeah, I'm torn between admiring this sort of behavior in others and disdaining it because of the underlying selfish and somewhat hypocritical motives.

In the end, though, if all we have to do is give these people a little attention, I'd say it's a price worth paying.

What is the point of him telling everyone about his decision to donate a pee filter? It's nice and all, but I doubt it's going to kick start an organ donation trend.

/hopes for a donation flash mob

But if you wore that at an anime convention....

I suspect his motivation is to encourage others to give it some consideration. Even if that's not the case, I'd say the ends justify the means and he's a mighty big man for doing so.

If feeling good about yourself somehow lessens the value of any kind act then most philanthropy is worthless.

But perhaps this guy is trying to highlight Australia's Organ Donor rate is amongst the worst in the world. I don't expect he's going to start any sort of kidney transplant movement but raising awareness of the shortage he could enact some real change on the postmortem ones. Positive use of celebrity.

You can Google it yourself but I'll even provide a government source

I, personally, don't care about his motivations for doing this. He might potentially save a life in the process of his "attention whoring" and that deserves a hero tag.

Regarding a few of the posts above - I'm a bit of a cynic myself, but your thoughts regarding this guy are anything beyond "good on him", seek professional help. Maybe you'll find someone who will do it for free.

Dr._Michael_Hfuhruhurr 2008-09-21 12:22:14 PM
Years later, the grim story told will be told via flash-backs.

The kidney will be given to his father. A father who used his scheming ways to set-up his only son. A father who needed a matching kidney, and would do anything to get it.

I dig scars. If for no other reason, they usually have a pretty entertaining story behind them (at least all of mine do). Some of them even look pretty cool.

Schmea 2008-09-21 03:51:33 PM
There was a free hug day in Vancouver about 8 months back. I'd just gotten back from a long backpacking trip, and had to run out to get some things, and stumbled into it. I'm 6'4", and after a few weeks in the woods looked a little rough I suppose, with pretty wild hair and a big beard. So I'm weaving my way through this free hug day stuff, just trying to get home, when the biggest guy out there, seriously looked like a linebacker or something, came up with his arms spread wide. What could I do? Big manly bear hug in the middle of Robson ensued, between giant hairy bush man (me) and linebacker dude.

Seriously, this stuff sounds stupid, but it's just good clean fun... everyone was laughing, having a good time, and it put a smile on peoples' face for no more than 2 seconds of their time.

Good on this guy for starting something so simple it seems stupid, and then taking it one step further with this donation.

I don't care that he's filming it. It's an incredible gift to give someone. Hopefully, it will inspire others.
