Indeed I do, Subby. Indeed I do.

Thanks for posting this!

I think they skipped the first two minutes when they showed it on MTV.

I love that song. The video's pretty cool too.

Earguy [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 07:50:06 AM
I've always liked the song, I've never liked the video.

For some cool harmonies, check out "Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes" (pops) off the same album.

The song kind of annoyed me, but the video is funny.

Chevy Chase with hair = funny.

Chevy Chase bald = scary and unfunny.

I hate whistling. I'll say that right now. It bugs me when other people whistle and I don't like to do it myself.

That said, this is a *fun*-as-hell song to whistle along with... and I can remember watching this video quite a few years ago.

Thanks for posting, subby!

Love this track. A big favourite to bring out in the middle of a drinkin sesh and get everyone air-saxing along to.

And can someone explain to me the whole thing about the bass line being the same-but-reversed bit... it's that solo riff toward the end, yeah?

cerote [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 09:12:41 AM
Is this where they corral the old folks? Where should I leave my walker? Huh? That's my bad ear, so you're going to have to speak up. What? Oh. It's about 8:15. Thanks, sonny.

It makes me sad for some reason. The nostalgia, I think.

Cool ran off with some little bat faced girl. Why am I so soft in this thread when the rest of my posts are so hard? Beerbelly?

Hahahaa, this reminds me of my misspent youth. Back when MTV played music videos. This video happened just about when Michael Jackson was starting to turn white.

mrjah 2008-09-21 09:46:34 AM
You know, I never understood why that was funny. Even in the 80s.

Why was that funny?

Ha! I just saw this Friday night. Ratatat uses it as part of their background visuals. Freaking awesome show. But I fear I was one of the only ones there who remember the video, let alone the song....damn kids.

wow thats nuts, I saw him on the 4th of July in Cooperstwon NY for about 30 bucks. It was at a baseball field, and you could walk right up to the front row if you wanted. He's a lot of fun live.

Yep. The first half of the bass fill is normal, and the second half is the first half reversed.

The music for my wedding 3 years ago:

walking down the aisle: Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica
signing crap during the ceremony: some Damien Rice song
leaving the chapel: You Can Call Me Al

Thanks subby!

This song evokes memories of a church trip I took in 7th grade from Andalusia, Alabama to Paoli, Indiana. 23 of us. In a church van. With only a few choice cassettes chosen by the Youth Minister to keep us company. Never Mind the Bollocks, by the Sex Pistols, Paul Simon's Graceland, U2's The Joshua Tree, and a CD called Ten by an up and coming band called Pearl Jam (just gave away my age. Whoops). And every kid in that van was more impressed with Paul Simon than either of the other two.

It was only years later that I realized how badass our Youth Minister was to have Bollocks and Ten in his collection.

Music nostalgia thread? What's the name of that 10,000 Maniacs song that was on VH1 all summer in 92?

Yeah I'm just 23, but hey, it was 16 years ago

The LAMEST song Simon ever attached his name to and Chevy Chase?

Asshat par excellance'.

Stupid song, stupid video by two of the smugest members of the
entertainment industry.

PYROY 2008-09-21 01:53:14 PM
mrjah: Why was that funny?

Cause of the part where Chevy drops the glass of water and whistle through the congo stand?
I don't think it was ever meant to be HaHa funny...Just a simple video for a great song that will bring a little smile to your face.

And in Andalusia, no less. Mom's side of the family came from around there, so those are ALL surprising selections.
