Because when I think of Vikings the word 'aggressive' is FARTHEST from my mind...

Riiiiight

horse-pheathers [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 01:03:05 AM
Hey, the Vikings weren't really bad sorts. Just read some of the graffiti they left behind at Maes Howe (on Orkney). Mostly stuff about the virtues of the women they left back home and, about twelve feet off the floor, one inscription reading roughly "I am a viking writing way up high". Party animals, they were, who just got a little out of hand now and again on their beer runs....

:)

Holy crap, it's good.

Damn straight, Gecko.

First time I had it was sitting in a pub in Stromness. It's in my top ten to stay.

Oh I'm not knocking the Vikings, but they were an aggressive people! Look at their legends and myths. Norse mythology rocks! Now I have to listen to some Amon Amarth...

Anyone who uses the word "soubriquet" when they mean "nickname" deserves a knee to the goolies. Pretentiousness on a level only measurable in kilo-wankers.

FAIL for not showing us the label in question. Dumb internets.

For any curious, here it is:

Were you expecting a split-in-two skull as well? This is not violent. This is the cover of a romance novel.

For gad's sakes! One of my favorite beers, taken over by liberals...gadzooks.

ahhh.. neo-prohibitionists..

this wont get too far then.. I was wondering what the big deal was.

if they are so concerned with the name, well.. I would think construing the name "skullsplitter" as a hangover effect might be a deterant. They should be right behind it..

doesn't Orkney also make Kelpy? and if so.. do they still?

Haha, I GISed for the label and had similar thoughts about the artwork. It certainly wasn't the violent image of a viking splitting a skull with an axe that I was expecting.

Yer goddamn right you have to listen to some AA.

I live a short walk from the Belgian border where 8.5% is officially classified as shandy.

OK, Hold on, here. Is it 8.5 percent or 8.5 proof? It CAN'T be both.

Yeah I downloaded that album (not out in US yet), pretty good. Not as good as With Oden on Our Side or Vs the World but quite good nonetheless. I like the title track, Where is Your God, Varyags of Miklagaard, Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags, and Live for the Kill best.

When you heard Live for the Kill for the first time were you as stunned by the violins as I was? I listen to a lot of symphonic metal bands (Therion ftmfw) but hearing violins in an AA song was quite unexpected.

Except that he learned a whole new language in a few days. That part just threw the whole thing off for me. Otherwise, a decent flick.
