Trooper in a stupor hits cyclist in the pooper

Weaver95 [TotalFark] 2008-09-20 09:36:22 PM
If someone had 'nodded off' and hit a trooper, thier ass would be in jail right now.

Uchiha_Cycliste [TotalFark] 2008-09-20 09:48:04 PM
At first i thought this was a repeat of the recent Santa Clara incident. Then I saw it wasn't, and suddenly I wished it had been. This is farked up.

Weaver95:

Doesn't it get old pointing out that us mortals aren't above the law. I'm as outraged as you are, but are you surprised at all? The Santa Clara sheriff who mowed down 2 cyclists wasn't even tested for drugs or alcohol. Instead he was consoled by the other police around him, because what he was going through must have been awful. I mean it was horrible how people were asking him questions and wanting him to justify how he was on duty and had killed some bikers. It not fair to further stress someone who had just prior suffered so tragically.

\Pissed so much I don't know if what I wrote is coherent.

It happens because we allow it to happen. wait for this thing to go live - someone will step up and defend the cop for running those civvies down. wait and see.

Why was he escorting Rosie O'Donnell?

DOWNER time

I'm actually surpised as all hell that it took them less then a week to determine that he fell asleep. It's not like anything is going to happen to him though THEORETICALLY he should be more cognizant of his surroundings be a cop and all that... But that is neither here nor there.

Personal Score : 7 friends of mine killed (over 12 years) while riding/training. (And I was on one of the rides where two got killed asswipe plowed into all of us at about 50 MPH), One of them was a hit and run never caught the driver. Leaves five drivers for six deaths. Worst penalty was a reckless driving ticket and NOBODY lost their license. Granted the drivers should (hopefully?) be screwed up in the head for a long time (rest of their lives???????)

Driving a car should be a priveledge and not a right....

I realize this will probably start a nice little flame war about how packs of cyclist run red lights an dhow individual cyclist go through stop signs and red lights etc etc etc... And there should be parity etc...

Thats not a reason to do dumb shiat in a car, and yes if you run a red light (or stop sign) on a bike and then get run over by an 18 wheeler.... you deserve to die. Although there is the rationale that most traffic sensors don't pick up bikes.

rant over

Im a cyclist...blah, blah, blah...getting a kick.

I SHOULD be kicking someone's ass right now but I can't, as both legs are in full casts to my hip, where my pelvis is in 3 distinct pieces being held together with titanium rods.

I should be getting a kick due to the Oxycontin I'm on to dull the roar my nervous system is shouting to my brain.

I should be getting...aw fark it, I should be getting some sleep but can't due to some asshole plowing me down as I rode legally with traffic on Thursday morning. I'd find the link to podunk local paper that ran a 2 line news story but it won't matter. The driver got a ticket and drove away to work as I lay twisted in an ambulance and my twisted bike lay in the ditch.

Oh, and every time I see that picture of that peleton getting nuked from orbit by that drunk mother farker I want to puke. I got hit from behind and I pray to never see any pictures of that. I looked like a jigsaw puzzle waiting to be put together, or like Gepetto if he took a hatchet to Pinocchio.

I'll be spending a lot of time on Fark over the next few months, so between that and total consciousness on my death bed, I've got that going for me.

One gloomy early April morning I was scheduled for a TTT practice. I woke up that morning feeling from the depths of my soul to teh bottom of my stomach that I should flake. I sent an email out to that effect and a good friend of mine took my place for practice.
...
Here's what I've heard happened.

They were riding along Alahambra road in Orinda in formation. They came around a corner probably moving at 30. A truck was behind them moving at double the speed limit and hit my friend. He was thrown into the air and landed on his upper back/ shoulders, his lower back snapping under him. He ended up need two long titanium rods and two short titanium rods screwed to his spinal cord to prevent him for becoming paralyzed.
I fully believe that that was supposed to be me, and I am ever thankful it wasn't.

share the road and all that happy horseshiat, but when the cards are down, cyclists still share the roadway with 6000 pound hunks of metal on wheels traveling 60+ miles an hour. you shouldn't be surprised/outraged when accidents happen and the cyclist loses.

I know (sigh). i am aware of what an ass I am for my thoughts. But really, some of the roads I travel are too narrow for normal car traffic. It amazes me every time I see cyclists on certain roads in the area I drive (middle Tennessee). If you live north of Kentucky you might not understand. It's negligent and criminal how narrow some of the road are around here. I never saw anything like it up north.

I guess it angers me because I don't wanna be that guy. Like I said, I don't wanna hit you. It would ruin my life. Probably ruin yours too, which would ruin my life even more. Trying to speak for the drivers out there can can identify with what I'm saying, you cyclists SCARE THE HELL OUT OF ME. I am well aware of your rights to the road. I (personally, meaning just me) am as careful as I can be around you. I also know others aren't. That's why I just wish you could find some other way of getting your yaya's out that doesn't include your new black and green spandex speed suit (or whatever its called) and the narrow, winding, beautiful roads of middle TN. If ya can't? I wish you a safe trip.

I'm sorry bout the inflammatory comments, it's like when you see a little kid run into traffic, your pissed at the kid for being so careless.

you do look ghey as hell though.

That's why I rock the ones that look like shorts you wear for hiking:

i227.photobucket.com

Also, while a lot of people cycle for recreation, the reason I started getting serious was because of gas prices. I need it for transportation, and there are just not enough bike paths to get cyclists where they need to go. Sometimes you HAVE to use streets. (Believe me, we don't like being honked at and run off the road by people if we don't have to. Sometimes you just gotta take some sketchy roads.)

I think you have a misconception that all cyclists are spandex wearing people who just aimlessly cycle around the area for shiats and giggles. It might be the case for some, not the case for all.

Tawnos [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 03:40:56 AM
TehBoognish
You seem awfully concerned how others look due to the clothes appropriate to the sport they're participating in.

That spandex reduces drag (significantly, I bike both with and without it at different times and it's a HUGE difference) while providing padding, sweat wicking, and other such benefits. Unlike most people who tend to comment on it, those of us who choose to wear that clothing don't feel so insecure in our own looks that we choose to attack another's. I'm not even in the best shape (working on it - the bike really helps), but I don't make a point of calling out, say, swimmers for wearing speedos. That's just immature and should be over by the time you graduate high school.
