I have absolutly no sympathy for asshat crotchrocketers that get themselves killed by speeding. It's dangerous enough on a bike, you have to be a complete idiot to want to make it more dangerous.

And the donorcyclists get all huffy when small, old asian women don't 'look twice to save a life'...

Not to offend em, I know most bikers aren't this retarded, but who HASN'T not seen one at some point? Especially doing twice the average speed of other cars.
I live in Florida, so I get the occasional pleasure of watching some fool fall off of his wheelie onto a car. I even got to watch a [drinking] buddy crash through a mailbox.

The two men, whose identities are pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, were killed at the scene.

As opposed to being killed somewhere else?

"Both men were later gunned down in the hospital for being complete idiots."

SemperLieSuckah 2008-09-20 11:22:03 PM
The driver's description leads me to believe that this was due to inexperience. They had a half mile to see the truck and take heed. Even I won't rip over 100 unless I can see where I'm going for at least a half mile. But even so, they should have at least had the where-with-all to low-side the bikes if it was inevitable.

Saw a rider the other day that absolutely astounded me. He was riding left-hand sidesaddle through 35mph traffic, one leg propped up on the other like he was sitting sideways in a chair with his arm resting on the propped leg. He was weaving in and out - no signal. I fully expected him to smack into the back of a vehicle or have some other accident.

I really don't understand what is going through drivers heads when they pull shiat like this.
People need to realize that they are not invincible... nor are the other people that they're putting in danger when they do idiotic things like this.

I just don't get it.

Cold enough to find the headline amusing. Besides, they were probably young so it isn't like they were people.

Kids under 13: cute
People over 23: Adults

People in between: The bane of human society. Besides, they were male.

simpsonfan: The only victims here deserving sympathy are the truck driver, and owner. Having to deal with all that paperwork, damages to the truck, etc.

Hmm... Reading the TFA the truck driver estimated they were a half mile away when starting a -right- turn from what must have been the left lane. It doesn't make sense any other way. If turning from the right lane having 'enough time' makes no sense. It only makes sense if the driver is moving across the path of traffic.

Since at a legal speed limit a motorcycle can be very dead in a situation like this, when not predicting some truck turning right from the left lane, the other possibility is the truck driver:

A) misjudged the distance.
B) Decided that truck wins and made a traffic blocking turn as they often do.

Just bicycling I have drivers grossly misjudge my speed and distance from them. I understand for motorcyclists it is *MUCH* worse.

/I dislike idiot crotch rocket riders as much or more than the next person.

dumb thing to do, they paid the price.

Had a double bike fatality locally about 10 years ago. Two bikers, who were best friends since grade school, were riding recklessly. Looks like the first one hit the curbing of the median strip, slid back out into the path of his friend, got hit and killed by his buddy's bike, and his buddy flew off the bike and broke his neck on the median strip and died. Had I driven down that same road 25 minutes later than I did that night, I would have seen the accident scene.

Darwin didn't win that time, both had kids, one of them had two. Both riders were in their mid-late 20s, both were wearing helmets and leathers. Pretty sad, really.

vudukungfu 2008-09-20 11:32:49 PM
As a farker who has been riding motorcycles for 32 years, I would sy the best policy is to consider every other person on the road, and all the people near the road as potential death threats.
Including other bikers.
Including one's self.
Never underestimate the stupidity of anyone else, including yourself.
Stay alert, and stay alive.

Uhm, they were driving recklessly, it was their own fault.
It would be tragic if they weren't driving like asshats and were hit by a drunk driver.

Wearing a helmet or leathers in an accident is like wearing a condom to your first gang rape when you are the host of honor.

I dunno why they had to deal with paperwork. It's a Semi... a farkin' rolling billboard!..You don't have a right to drive on the highway. It is a privilege. Granted by the state. Read the rules... Follow the rules... die in a nursing home cursing the kids on the farkin' lawn.

That's how it sounds to me too.
Passing a truck on the right that was in the process of making a wide right turn.

Gee, too bad there's never any signs or such things on EVERY FRIGGIN TRUCK to warn against that.

I ride to work most days. I ride like I am driving Ms. Daisy. I see others on sport bikes and cruisers riding like they are on fire. I have seen a lot of guys from the army post here survive Iraq and Afghanistan just to come home and splater them selves down the highway. It is not just people on bikes. I see just as many in cars doing it too.
