Rupert Murdoch says some stupid stuff. I hope Barack Obama issues a fatwa against him.

FlashHarry [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 06:02:57 PM
i thought that murdoch liked obama. hmm...

well, the palin/mccain ticket favors the bush doctrine - now that they know what it is - so that won't help our "relationships with the rest of the world."

50mm [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 06:04:12 PM
So I guess old Rup didn't see the poll of citizens from 22 countries which said if Obama wins it will have a serious effect on their views of the states (for the better).

propasaurus [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 06:11:30 PM
Murdoch's Australian, so obviously he knows more about global politics than any Obama supporter.
And because hes's also Australian, he obviously knows more about the U.S., too.

As for world opinion polls, if they're not published in a Murdoch/News Corp. source, they're meaningless.

ksdanj [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 06:12:23 PM
How many electoral votes does Australia have, again?

DonnyBaker [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 06:45:45 PM
"ruin our relationships with the rest of the world"

Does he mean what little is left?

Mors 2008-09-19 07:00:25 PM
FlashHarry: i thought that murdoch liked obama.

Really? He's such a republican shill I can't imagine they don't actually pay him to force his media outlets to run the pure unfiltered propaganda they run.

ksdanj: How many electoral votes does Australia have, again?

Rupert Murdoch owns most of the channels you watch, most of the papers you read, I guarantee it. How many electoral votes does he have personally?

Lots.

slobarnuts 2008-09-19 07:59:55 PM
ksdanj: How many electoral votes does Australia have, again?

Rupert Murdoch took on U.S. citizenship so he could set about owning most of the newsprint you read in the morning, and broadcast stations you watch in the evening.

the rest of the world seems to disagree.

Rev. Skarekroe [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 08:16:36 PM
Is that the same rest of the world that cheers him and waves American flags when he comes to visit?

SphericalTime [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 08:39:00 PM
Pardon me, I can't stop giggling.

Maybe he meant the Obama will ruin our poor relationships with the rest of the world. You know, as a double negative or something.

Hehehehehehehe

PainInTheASP [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 08:50:32 PM
Didn't George W. Bush already do that?

bobbette [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 08:53:31 PM
Barack Obama is the best thing to happen to U.S. foreign policy in a long time. Foreigners love him, because he's an intellectual and because he's generally the antithesis of the Bush model of foreign relations (stupid, neoconservative and undiplomatic), although there is no evidence that Barack Obama would overturn the idea that pre-emptive strikes and military might are essential tools in the war on terror. (His mentioning that strikes inside Pakistan were an option proves that.) The difference is in an appreciation of multilateralism and diplomacy as a tool to get people onside while achieving America's goals, which is how the world works. While Bush's mantra was "You're with us, or you're against us" (which eventually put most of the world in the "against us" camp) my observations of their personal style so far indicate Obama's mantra might be along the lines of, "You're a valuable ally and we know you're interested in the world's security. Here's what we need to do." Obama also has tons of capital in the bank for being originally opposed to the Iraq war and being focused on stepping up the campaign in Afghanistan, which makes people think he is knowledgeable and wise.

Think John McCain could attract a crowd of 200,000 Germans? He could probably draw 2000, only if they advertised it as an opportunity to throw rotten tomatoes at him. He's primarily known for singing "Bomb, bomb Iran", the Czechoslovakia gaffe, not knowing the difference between Sunni and Shia, and now, for not knowing who's in charge of Spain. Oh, and his VP pick is portrayed in the international media as a risky choice with a dangerously aggressive stance toward Russia, who was tapped to win the votes of people who hate science. This might as well be titled the "Reinforce foreign perceptions that America is full of dumbasses" ticket. (It's very unfair, because America isn't any more full of dumbasses than any other country, but George W. Bush has seriously affected how people view your country and its electorate. To foreigners with a limited view of domestic politics, there really is no explanation that makes sense, other than "these people must be idiots.")

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 08:56:58 PM
bobbette: Think John McCain could attract a crowd of 200,000 Germans?

If he hung 200,000 veiner schnitzels on his belt, he could.

well said

dillenger69 [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 09:05:54 PM
If he means "our relationship" as in "the republican party's relationship" then I agree wholeheartedly. Obama will make the Republicans look like chest thumping trolls by actually engaging the rest of the world in a sane manner.

You never know, he might offend Spain by 1) not knowing who their PM is or 2) whether or not they like us.

Yes, he controls all US media. By all, I mean, the Wall Street Journal, the NY Post, and Fox News. That's it.

Now Australian media on the other hand. He controls a lot of that.

Lolthien 2008-09-19 09:43:02 PM
Er.. by ruin american relationships abroad, does he perhaps mean we will ruin our horrible current relationships? And is that double negative a good thing?

ToxicMunkee [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 09:43:04 PM
Murdoch's just jealous that no matter how much money he had or how much of our airwaves he's controlled, no one's ever loved him the way people love Obama. All he wants is a hug.

he has a lot more US media than just the three that you name, but yeah, he doesn't own all of it, just more than anyone else and well, pretty much most of it. but at least he and Scaife agree about something now. If septugenarian (octagenarian?) multi billionaires don't like it, well, obviously I should be wary too, since they always keep my best interests in mind...

This pretty much proves for me that right-wingers live in their own deluded reality that bears no resemblance to the world we actually live in.

depmode98 2008-09-19 09:55:17 PM
Murdoch on the credit crisis: "One has got to go back on this and say, look, this started 15 years ago, with Barney Frank and people pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make a lot of bad loans, until they finally had $11 billion -- or nearly $11 billion out there. I don't say all bad, but it became a racket.

shut the fark up. Even in your deluded mind if this was true, that fannie and freddie were "forced" to make these loans, how does that explain banks the world over collapsing from buying these loans in the secondary market from their own free will? The fact is, there is no liberal boogy man. It was government deregulating markets that allowed this financial meltdown. Not liberal senators. Murdoch is a piece of shiat.

50mmbSo I guess old Rup didn't see the poll of citizens from 22 countries which said if Obama wins it will have a serious effect on their views of the states (for the better).

It doesnt matter what the citizens think ha ha.. Who cares what a citizen thinks. Start making it hard for governments to sell things in America. See how well we are liked.

i always kind of admired Murdoch not because hes wealthy but because the man is a Evil genius.

His evil was a necessary evil by turning Fox into a propaganda machine he exposed both sides of being bias. even if it wasn't his intentions he forced MSNBC and others to remove their masks and stoop down to his level even further by some means.

Now people are waking up and seeing the truth. Before him people didn't really question anything.

now i cant even watch or read news without questioning it.

PainInTheASP: Didn't George W. Bush already do that?

This. Almost the whole world was willing to back us up in the aftermath of September 11, and we squandered that goodwill.

DimensionalPunk 2008-09-19 10:09:35 PM
Rove invented this strategy, think of your own biggest weakness and accuse your opponent of it, no matter how ridiculous the accusation may be. Like Obama is elitist, or in bed with lobbyists. It weakens the argument for when your opponent rightfully uses it against you. Imagine if Obama had jumped the gun and called McCain inexperienced from the beginning.

LikeTheSearchEngine [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 10:11:28 PM
This is what I would call projection, were Murdoch a conservative hack.

/If its something bad about your candidate, say its a fault of the other guy and hope no one notices.

If you are going to criticise someone, f'n critcise them.. Don't be disingenuous and play the sympathy/concern card with their supporters while shanking their candidate.... like a sociopath.

Somewhere in a different dimension, Murdoch Rupert is declaring, "I really like John more than I like Barack, he has a lot more experience and knows a lot about government..but he's too farking old and senile to be an effective President."
