Power was restored to the throne after it had been usurped by a marauder named Ike.

The only place you can properly celebrate the Renaissance is Florence, where it started and brought light to Europe after 1000 years of darkness.

wasnt really ike, im 20 miles north of the festival and their was no torrential rain, just swirling gusts of 80 mph wind. it would be still for a half second, then from a different direction than last you would see bushes, trees, etc flattened and shreaded. we're in a drought around here now, so it would be good if we had a real hurricane.

i would call it ikes fart, it was hot and humid (about 85 F in the shade)for the first 9 hours of wind while it was around 60 F right after. damn canadian arctic fronts

Electricity restored at Renaissance Festival

Thank heavens. What would all those socially awkward losers have done with their time if it hadn't been restored?

Renaissance Festivals have less to do with the actual Renaissance and more to do with women with boobs pushed up to their chins, turkey legs, getting really drunk, and hot guys. Hot guys wearing chain mail and swords.

... I'll be in my bunk.

Electricity DID exist during the renaissance. They just had no clue how to harness or control it.

My oldest son is a lineman he has been in LA from the 1st day that Gstav hit, Then last Wendsday they sent his whole crew (about 18 trucks) to Ohio. At least I now know that it was for a good reson. Hes going to be in OH about 2 weeks then back to Texes for the rest of the year.
7 days a week 16 hrs a day. But he is making Great money.

Is that an SCA furry? At another point in history furries fought against fursecution, only instead of using creepy cartoons featuring anthropomorphisized animals on the internet they used swords?

Why does the SCA have people dressed like anthropomorphic creatures? What's their source material? Disney's Robin Hood? Thundercats?

Yeah, that first pic showed women very different from any SCA women I ever met.

As for the furries...

I used to love the Ren festivals as a kid. I try to get my friends to go now, and no one is interested.

Although I still don't see the problem spending a nice Autumn Sunday with turkey legs, beer, and jousting.

I think our ren faire is only during summer, which sucks if you're in costume - the midwest can get sweltery and humid, and my four-year-old kept wanting to take off her overdress, but the underdress was a little too trollop nightshirt to be seen in public. Especially, ew, on a four year old.

And CygnusDarius ? Yeah. I laughed.

Turkey legs, over priced blown glass and people wandering around speaking in really bad english accents - the really important things . . .

After not having water and power for a week in Houston (thank you crews from Michigan and West Virginia who repaired the lines on my street!) and my in-laws who still do not have power also here in Houston, it's good to know that the power companies up there and the media knows what's important in the wake of IKE - beer and costumes.

amaranthe 2008-09-21 02:55:48 PM
Glad to hear the power's on. Road trip the weekend of Oct. 15th! :)
