(Some Guy) Obvious LL Cool J threatens to quit rap after his new CD sells even fewer copies than the abysmal Jessica Simpson foray into country music. Those quiet cash registers are the consumers calling your bluff, LL   (taletela.com) divider line 41

This is rather a shame:

I saw LL Cool J at the New Music Seminar at '86, and for a young
guy he seemed to have his head right on his shoulders and a good
perspective about his music and his need to be a positive role
model. He even shook my hand. He is one of the few rappers whose
stuff I enjoy.

The guy hasn't had a hit in years. He needs a hit like a crackhead needs a hit.

I consider him more in the R&B Genre than the rap genre.

/listens to both so it's a moot point

/LL hasn't been relevant since he was in Deep Blue Sea. If you value your career, do not star in movies with sharks that you can potentially jump.

When he crossed over to R&B he lost me. Everything up until the album I mentioned in my last comment was rap. After that, he started to suck.

LL should remember the words of his master: evil moves fast, but good moves faster than light, shining for your illumination. Good versus evil equals confrontation. So when you're in trouble, don't give in and go sour. Try to rely on your turtle power.

When was the last time a rapper made an album all by their lonesome?

Its usually a good sign they are losing it when they have a guest 'featuring' on every track. That said, I guess thats standard pop fare for ya.

The fact that there are so many guests is the main reason it's been sitting on my desk for a week without being listened to. My first thought was "sales ploy", which it obviously is to one degree or another.

There are times when artists invite guest artists into the studio because there's a sincere desire to collaborate. Over the past 10 years - particularly the past 5, however, duets and guest appearances have become a crutch for labels of all sizes to lean on in an effort to attract larger audiences.

This new LL CD is an example of this trend taken to the extreme. If it were all LL - raw and under produced - I would have probably listened to it the day it arrived. Still, I suppose I should reserve judgment until I actually get around to listening to it. Once my first impression subsides, perhaps I will.

Unfortunately, Jessica Simpson has three things that LL Cool J doesn't:

1.) Better marketing.
2.) More hype "publicity."
3.) Fans with disposable incomes and zero responsibilities.

/her tits are a close runner-up too

music?

Gimmi a bunch of monkeys banging on trash cans and plastic buckets. We can call that music before we call rap music.

The music industry figured it all out. Stupid people buy stupid recordings with "Stupid money". It used to be called expendable income but some folks just waste cash on the latest "trend" rather than thinking for themselves.

Who is Hollister BTW and why is he so popular?

deevo 2008-09-20 11:16:47 AM
Rappers don't know when to give the fark up. LL can afford to retire. I was a huge Wu-Tang fan as a kid, but I've got this new GZA album and haven't played it. "Could anything he have to say possibly be worth hearing anymore?" is how I feel about him now. Nas is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. So is Ice Cube. Not to say that there aren't plenty of rock bands who should've packed it up years ago, but rappers don't seem to see the artistic integrity in going out when you're done saying what you've got to say.
