Obama and Dodd received more contribution money from those ties than any other Senator.

Bush tried to reform Freddie/Fannie in 2005 but the Dems shot it down, with their weak cries of racism.

Nemo's Brother: Bush tried to reform Freddie/Fannie in 2005 but the Dems shot it down

Would that be another one of those years in which the Democrats did not control Congress?

Did someone get told? No? Tell them. Yes?

Oh snap.

The 108th and 109th Congress and Senate were of Elephant makeup there sparky.

Plus, the "reform" amounted to changing who got to set the net capital rules for them. Right now, Congress does that. Bush's proposal would have given that authority to Treasury.

The lesson here.... we now need a Republican President and full Republican controlled Congress to prevent the type of problem that resulted from having those things.

Don't forget those nine withered octogenarians in robes whose only oversight is the icy scythe of death. We need them stacked accordingly.

Is this Nemo's Brother a bot? It just seems to spew nonsense at the start of every thread.

Listen closely, can you hear the faint "DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" sound eminating from the McCain Campaign Headquarters? I think it's getting louder.

poot_rootbeer 2008-09-19 03:18:03 PM
Not a single one of the sources the McCain campaign cites in the ad agrees with the way the ad depicts the Obama/Raines relationship.

That's FAIL you can believe in.

The only way I'll ever get behind a McCain economic strategy is if the first step is to curb kick Phil Gramm. I'm tired of Him saying he knows how to fix problem X without telling us what he'll actually do.

Yeah, but it was 2003 when bush pushed for that reform. Well before any crises was apparent.

In other news, McCain has 83 Wall Street Lobbyists working on his campaign.

What a reformer! A true Mavrick!

From the article in question:

"But McCain is playing with fire, because his campaign also has deep ties to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager, was president of the Homeownership Alliance, which advocates the expansion of homeownership through low-interest mortgages funded by Fannie and Freddie. Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr., who headed McCain's vice presidential vetting panel, was a lobbyist for Fannie Mae. Mark Buse, a longtime McCain aide, lobbied for Freddie Mac before returning to McCain's Senate staff."

Oh, Rick Davis, is there ANYTHING that you can't screw up?

Oh wow.

The McCain campaign seems to want to get ahead of their own problems by blaming Obama first. The media doesn't seem to be taking the bait.

Dear John McCain,

We were lying.

Sincerely yours,

The Washington Post

P.S. Isn't Obama just dreamy?

OK this is completely off the subjectb ut I just had to tell this.

John McCain and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barbershop.

As they sat there, each being worked on by a different
barber not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid
to start a conversation for fear it would turn to
politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Obama
in his chair reached for the aftershave.

Obama was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife
Michelle will smell that and think I've been in a
whorehouse,'

The second barber turned to McCain and said,
'How about you?'

McCain replied, 'Go ahead, Cindy doesn't know what
the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

Do you expect any less from the party of personal responsibility*?

* a means of shirking community responsibility. AKA, selfishness.

i33.tinypic.com

The figures you used don't include contributions to joint committees (e.g., "McCain Victory 2008") for this election:

graphics8.nytimes.com

You can corroborate this on the FEC page (new window). For example, if you search "Boisi Geoffrey", you can see that he over-contributed by donating $100,000 to McCain Victory 2008 (max is $70,100), and then had to be credited the difference.

In John McCain's OWN WORDS....

"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president."

From the horse's mouth in his own book.
He's running for President merely to satisfy his own ambition and ego, not to serve the people of the country. He doesn't really care about reforms or patriotism. His own mouth just bore him out to be a self-serving flip-flopper who will do whatever it takes to win.

lexslamman 2008-09-19 03:43:57 PM
How will the Republican Party continue to fund Medicare and Social Security for our retirees after their tax cuts? What programs would they like to take away from the American people?

rob.d 2008-09-19 03:45:53 PM
McCain knows the only hope he has is to lie like a rug and hope people do not follow up.

Untrustworthy is the only term that will stick to him.

He makes Putin look like the pope. At least Putin is honest about being a bastard.

Essentially, John McCain is still trying to live up to the expectations of his father and grandfather, even though they are now dust. It's kind of similar to the current fellow that occupies the Oval Office when Cheney lets him.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T LIKE YOU, OBAMA.

But he's STILL a better pick than McCain.

Another lie from McCain trying to connect Obama to Fannie Mae. Don't believe the hype.

1) Franklin Raines was never on Obama's staff.
2) Johnson was fired from the Obama campaign within days.

Furthermore, this year, as above links and graphics show, McCain has been sucking off the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac fundraising teat TEN TIMES as much as Barack Obama.

T-Servo 2008-09-19 04:24:21 PM
Sadly, my father would believe McCain if he claimed to have graduated from the top of his class at Annapolis, and that he volunteered to be a POW after commanding the USS Iowa up the Mekong River.

/and then McCain would claim that Palin is the world's top energy expert

Not quite there Nemrod. Obama is second on the list for receiving "employee" donations... Now get this, McCain actually received MORE than Obama from the PACs, Directors and Officers. Once again McCain is a omitting relevant facts. Check it out - Link (new window)
