HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

You'd be hard pressed to find a band that hockey fans like less than these turds. Nothing about this band insinuates violence.

Def Leppard* >> you

*pre-1988

sigdiamond2000 [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 11:43:11 AM
After R'ing TFA, I'm a little less concerned. It sounds like they'll be showing the ceremony at the Def Leppard concert, not the other way around.

If they were really going to cut to the Fox Theater on the jumbotron and show them playing the song before the banner raising, I'd probably call in a bomb threat to Joe Louis Arena just to save everyone the embarrassment of actually witnessing something like that.

/Submitter, and still not happy about this either way. Keep your easy listening metal away from my hockey.

Burn_The_Plows [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 11:44:27 AM
Jesus fark. I thought the local AHL team here had crappy concerts before or after the game. Not that I like Cheap Trick or Eddie Money, but they're a bit better than those wankers.

John Coyote [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 11:58:53 AM
Wow. That must've cost the NHL an arm and a leg. Well, maybe just an arm...

dj_bigbird [TotalFark] 2008-09-19 12:04:46 PM
I guess it's better than having .38 Special do the opening ceremony.

Looking for a rock band for the Red Wings Stanley Cup celebration?
I nominate Great White.

Go Blues!

Totally off topic, but, the headline made me think that someone needs to do a Palin video to "Armageddon It".

Gunny Highway 2008-09-19 01:24:39 PM
They could be bringin on the heartache also.

Gunny Highway 2008-09-19 01:25:36 PM
No, no, no.

/ok im done.

Will the ceremony go on through the night? Or will all that time be wasted?

Guy Innagorillasuit: Will the ceremony go on through the night? Or will all that time be wasted?

Just let it go. The Red Wings will be bringin' on the heartbreak for the rest of the teams again this year because they're two steps behind them in every facet of the game.

JohnnyC 2008-09-19 02:40:39 PM
As a Red Wings fan, I'm disappointed in the choice of bands. However, it means little... my real joy comes from the gnashing of teeth and cries of sadness from the fans of other teams when the Red Wings lay the smack down upon them! :D

Heh... Seriously though... I love my Red Wings.

BunkoSquad 2008-09-19 02:50:00 PM
Def Leppard could ruin it singlehandedly.

akugyaku 2008-09-19 02:52:53 PM
Someone needs to hire the Demolition Man to Disintegrate these chumps. As they were Coming Under Fire there would be Hysteria, but then it would turn into Love and Affection.

FrancoFile 2008-09-19 02:54:12 PM
That's Detroit for you.

Throw squids on the ice, or pour some sugar.

Lloyd Braun 2008-09-19 02:54:45 PM
The NHL is Foolin' themselves if they believe there will be Hysteria that these Gods Of War will Rocket Joe Louis Arena.

World's greatest arena rock band? Night Ranger is miffed at the theft of their rightful title.

You Fail. (Source: Wiki)

"Rick Savage (bass), Pete Willis (guitar), and Tony Kenning (drums), all students at Tapton School in Sheffield, formed a band called Atomic Mass in 1977. Following a chance meeting with Willis after missing a bus, 18-year old Joe Elliott tried out for the band as a guitarist. During his audition, however, it was decided that he was better suited to be lead singer.

Soon afterward they adopted a name proposed by Elliott, "Deaf Leopard", which was originally a band name he thought up while writing reviews for imaginary rock bands in his English class. At Kenning's suggestion, the spelling was slightly modified in order to make the name seem less like that of a punk band and perhaps also as an indirect homage to Led Zeppelin."

Q: What has five arms and loves pussy?
A: The Indigo Girls and the drummer from Def Leppard.

I_Love_Cheesecake 2008-09-19 03:09:09 PM
I would have gone with a great Detroit band:

Detroit vs Toronto on opening night with a Stanley Cup banner ceremony before the game? Oh yeah, I'll be there!

buckeyebrain 2008-09-19 03:16:16 PM
I passed the info to a friend of mine that's a Wings fan:

"So the octopus will only have seven arms?"

That is not a FAIL. As you can see, it also says "Hysterical" instead of "Hysteria".

/you fail

THE DRUMMER FROM DEF LEPPARD'S ONLY GOT ONE ARM!

Was KISS busy?

I like Def Leppard and all, but come on, they're British with no ties to Detroit (or even songs about Detroit).

Just doesn't make a ton of sense.

Man, that would have been an epic burn if goaliehere's mom was an octopus whose parents grew up in a radioactive swamp.

Given the unlikelihood of all that, however, the alleged insult fails to reach the status of "epic burn," and has instead been categorized as "totally lame, dude."

That's kind of the point... New to the internets?

Seriously, this is so bad... Did anyone read the article on NHL.com?
Here's a snippit:
The National Hockey League (NHL) will launch the 2008-09 season with NHL Face-Off Rocks™ 2008, an opening day spectacular headlined by the world's greatest arena rock band, Def Leppard.

Really, NHL.com? Who are you trying to convince with that sentence?

Lloyd Braun 2008-09-19 04:38:25 PM
That's the closest the Leafs will get to Stanley Cup banner in a long time.

alacoco 2008-09-19 04:49:07 PM
They needed a band that Chris Chelios would know.

The preceding message was brought to you by the brilliant minds of Gary Bettman and Bill Daly as part of their continuing quest to ruin the sport of hockey just a little more every season.

Really, NHL.com? Who are you trying to convince with that sentence?

Maybe people who have lived under a rock since 1988? I'm just guessing.

Is it? I have no idea how many members of Def Leppard there are, I just like the joke.

/ignoring the mom joke :)

Lol. I admit I don't get into Hocky but know it is a kick butt game. I like US football and we have Hank Jr and he is pretty tough for the Monday Night song. I actually like Def Leppard but for Hockey? I dunno, Kid Rock? LOL. Isn't he from the area? Yeah...Lame....

At least the show isn't a photograph of a bad actress or something like that.....

Ok, Lame also, I just wanted to play.

jtherion 2008-09-19 07:29:25 PM
I like Def Leppard.

/ducks the rotten tomatoes

Just be glad it's not the Nuge.. He'd probably hang a live deer from the banner and shoot it with a flaming arrow.

DEF LEPPeRd SUCKS

FTA:

...Detroit, followed by the raising of the Detroit Red Wings' 2008 Stanley Cup™ Championship banner prior to the start of their sold-out home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs

That's nice of them to do it in front of the Leafs, y'know, to remind them what a Stanley Cup winning team looks like and everything.
