The Beast and Ariel inconsolable.

Yay. More crappy noise.

/not really. I just never understood the attraction to feedback and B&S

I don't care for that type of music, therefor, THEY'RE THE CRAPPIEST BAND IN THE WORLD

/If You're Feeling Sinister is one of my favorite albums.

I like it too. A coffeehouse I went all the time in 1996 (well, I still go) was always playing it, I got some songs in my head and so actually bought the CD. My one brush with "cool," I suppose :)

I kind of prefer Dear Catastrophe Waitress, but that album is farking awesome, too.

Barry: OK, buddy, uh, I was just tryin' to cheer us up so go ahead. Put on some old sad bastard music, see if I care.
Rob: I don't wanna hear old sad bastard music, Barry, I just want something I can ignore.

I've even got it listed as such in my profile. I don't think I'll ever get sick of that album.

If this was going to be my first B&S purchase, would it be the right place to start?

I love finding music that is new to me, and my previous experience with B&S was through a pompous hipster douchebag who thought everything he listened to was superior to absolutely everything else in the world.

I would say so. It's mostly just light pop songs, very catchy. Not emo at all.

I didn't want it for a long time, either, as I didn't want any 'indie' hipster CDs in my collection, but it grew on me. It's a bit effeminate, so I have to put on Pogues or Led Zeppelin afterward to get me back on track.

Well that's unfortunate because it sucks ass.

The only album by them I've heard is The Life's Pursuit and I like it.

If you don't find any humor in the songs 'The Model' or 'Stars of Track & Field', then the problem lies with you.

I like some of their stuff. They're the Smiths for the 90's generation, I guess.

Dear Catastrophe Waitress is an awesome album.

Also, I just "got" the song Mornington Crescent from The Life Pursuit a week or so ago, after owning that album for three years. Took me long enough, eh?

Sorry, I don't associate them them with sad, hipster music.

Might have something to do with the fact that I shared a rather unforgetable moment with the hottest girl I ever farked with Lazy Painter Jane playing in the background.

No love for Tigermilk? *sigh*

The first words I heard from Belle & Sebastian:

He had a stroke at the age of 24
It could have been a brilliant career

I was putty in their hands immediately. The Smiths for the 90's is right. Saw them live once and they were great, just terrific song after terrific song.

Twee

Even a music geek needs a smidgen of muscle in their music, these guys have none.

You realized you were gay, and held hands the rest of the evening laughing about vicissitudes of lifestyle, social mores and comporture?

I don't generally go for B&S, but for some reason I love "Your Cover's Blown." In a perfect world, it would replace every cheesy mega-mix dance song played at wedding receptions.

/Followed by "Me and Giuliani Down by the Schoolyard (A True Story)" by !!!, another awesome epic.

She was into S&M and bible studies, not everyone's cup of tea.

/LOVE that album

A B&S thread *gasp* almost enough to make me smile on a Monday morning!

I've loved this band ever since I heard the opening lines of "The State I am in " back in 1995

mahoggin 2008-09-24 01:09:44 AM
I know I'm late, but still need to post to a B&S thread.

Saw 'em at Stubb's a couple of years ago for SXSW. Been a fan for years and that was the only show I've been able to catch. Sad.

"Jonathan David" is a masterful pop song. Video is cool, too. The Fans Only DVD one, not the promo one on YouTube.

/I'd love to see them active again.
//how can you NOT like a band who puts out a song called "Judy is a D*ck Slap"
