these losers think that people should work for them for free, just because, you know, "We're Widespread Panic. It's a privilege to work for us."

I'd hate to think what their free food would be like.

These 'losers' have raised $375,000 for Georgia schools by doing this - helped by people who donated their services to the charity. RTFA.

That's just because they're not penniless hippies

Now if only an education in Georgia schools was worth something...

Damn those losers for playing benefit shows for kids! Won't someone think of the adults?

So y'all think it's just fine to fukk working people out of their money as long as you pull some cute PR stunts?

I bet you're democrats.

I can't believe how horrible these noted hippies are.

I'm sure the middle school kids were happier before they had new instruments to play on or that new computer lab.

And for those unwilling to RTFA: it's not the band that's cooking the food, it's the head chef from a local restaurant. Let's not pretend that the guitarist is going to be working a deep-fryer in between sets.

I don't know anything about the work for free part that baked beans is talking about, but they are one of my favorite bands. Great show, lots of beautiful hippie chicks and a lot of fun. Seen them 6 times now and this just reminded me I should go again.

i once had the displeasure of seeing these folks live. they were neither widespread nor panic...

/don't really know what that means but i'm sticking by it

ogger 2008-09-16 03:49:05 PM
one of the great rock bands of our time doing their part to give back to the community. and you douches somehow have a problem with that?

Better go see them soon. They're taking 2009 off and I don't blame them...they play what, 300 shows a year every year for the last 15 years? Bout time they took more than a couple hours off.

Just curious,

Do they allow taping at their shows? I've watched a few youtubes of them since this thread started and would like to listen to a whole show.

As a matter of fact they do. Here is a good site to search for shows: http://bt.etree.org/

Okay, I just RTFA again, and I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to be outraged about. Hippies aren't supposed to good food? Some kind of elitist thing with a posh charity event? Someone help me out? Looks like a pretty cool thing to me....

/not really into WP

that's ok... i can't figure out why you think you should be outraged

Dee Snarl 2008-09-17 01:00:27 AM
Maybe outrage is too strong a word, but it seems like I'm supposed to be something, and I'm not getting it....

be indifferent. it makes life a lot easier in situations like this

Dee Snarl 2008-09-17 01:29:13 AM
I think you're missing my point. I am indifferent. I don't see how I could not be indifferent.

/Obvious tag

Widespread Panic is a commercial sellout, I heard them being played at the farking Grocery Store.

Yes, shopping for food and I hear Widespread Panic. I wonder if they thought i'd get a contact buzz with severe munchies :(

Ashtrey 2008-09-17 02:03:18 AM
Loved WSP for about 10 years. Sure I know, I was about 16 years too late to be a real fan, but since they released their first album the year I was born, I believe I deserve some slack.

Anyone know what tickets to this are going for, or for the Lakewood show? I live in Atlanta and haven't seen them since about 2004.

P.S. to the guy (Gordie_Howe_Hat_Trick) who said it's not like the guitarist is going to be doing the cooking, the guitarist has been dead for years. While George is an alright replacement, Hauser will always be the lead guitarist for Panic.

FTFM on the preview before post

Bigcrin 2008-09-17 02:21:01 AM
Um...... George got kicked out 2 years ago. The guitarist now is Jimmy Herring formerly of the Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jazz Is Dead, Phil Lesh and Friends, and The Dead

zenobia 2008-09-18 01:08:44 AM
Great band. On and off the stage.

Also being inducted Saturday into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. (new window)

yeah that was the first thing i noticed...that article is from Relix, the hippie-esque counterpart to RS.

/big big fan of the panic, best party of the whole summer is their 3 night run at red rocks every year
//george mcconnell left a couple years ago, replaced by jimmy herring who is just a monster on guitar
///taping allowed and encouraged, plenty to be found on sites mentioned above
////i've been taping them for several years now
//looking forward to NYE in denver!
