Good call, Metallica. I'm sure this won't influence future Swedish reviews of your music.

Even if this the best work they have ever done, I REFUSE to listen to it.
I can't think of a single band that sold out more than Metallica.
Except maybe Kiss when they did the disco album (Dynasty).

Hm, I actually have come to like the new album. It's got its faults, but it's still Metallica, and still has some decent musicianship (from everyone but Lars).

It's not good. Better than St. Anger, for sure, but mediocre at best by any other standards.

Metallica is such a good example of greed in the music industry. Don't get me wrong. I love a lot of their music. It astounds me how people who are such good musicians can be such big douchebags. Everything they do just seems to be to get as much money as possible out of their material. A good example being that Enter Sandman was one of the few songs from Rock Band 1 that is not playable in Rock Band 2. The reason? There's a 5 dollar relicensing fee for putting songs into RB2 that were in RB1, and Metallica wanted 10% of that 5 dollars, despite that it's supposed to be a license fee that goes to 58 different bands.

I have no problem with musicians wanting to get paid for their work, and most piracy is a bad thing, but damn these guys just take it too far.

The album is growing on me. It's definitely the best thing they've put out since the Black Album.

And I know what's coming: "That's not saying much, har har! The Black Album sucked! Metallica died when they moved to San Francisco!" etc.

Frankly, I enjoyed Load and Reload for what they were. This album is much better.

Can't argue with that. At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity ftw.

That said, it wasn't Metallica who cancelled the interview. It was the local manager of their record company.

I hate everything post Black Album. I can't really stand listening to the Black Album anymore, either. Master of Puppets is so overplayed, I can't listen to THAT album anymore either.

But this album is hands down better than everything but Justice and Ride the Lightning (their best album). And yes, I think it's better than Puppets, if only because I'm sick of that album.

Seriously... even the Unforgiven III song which cries out for ridicule sounds nothing like the other two, and is actually a damn good song.

They could have cut one song off the end, but it's otherwise better than Anthrax's or Megedeth's "comeback" albums (WCFYA and System has Failed), and really is the best thing they've done in 20 years. I think everyone harping on it may not have actually listened to it yet. It's seriously VERY good.

That said, Lars is as much of a pussy as Dave Mustaine. It's sad when Kirk Hammet is less of a pussy than you are.

(The album is still awesome).

Twigz221: It astounds me how people who are such good musicians can be such big douchebags.

I agree. I was a huge fan for their first 15 years or so, but ever since file sharing hit the scene they've consistently been some of the biggest a**holes in the music industry.

I also agree they should get paid fairly for their work (even though they're all mega-millionaires), but their level of greed and bloated sense of entitlement is just absurd. I'm ashamed to admit I'm a fan anymore.

Very true. From Justice to Black, his voice changed but it was ok. Since then, it's like he's hit puberty again, only it's not a good thing compared to the higher-pitched voice of Kill'em All.

I heard their latest single, and I swear they wrote it just to be hard on Rock Band and Guitar Hero players.

Metallica needs to remember that although each course of a seven course meal may be great, you can't expect to get a gourmet meal out of mashing them all together.

Ok, I can't even say it with that much confidence. No, it's not THAT good.

Take Justice, mix it with the best of Load/Reload, and a smattering of snare drums from St. Anger, put it in the oven for 3 years, and voila! Death Magnetic.
