So, she 1)swam through a sea of photographers, 2)ran her mouth off about her latest role, and 3)showed off her ass in a pair of bike shorts. Right?

Screw Jennifer Lopez. The real important thing about this article is Jamie Lee Curtis.

I'd run a triathlon of oral, vaginal and anal on her.

What?

I was hoping for a decent bike short booty shot. Yes, I know she's way too (morbidly) obese for normal, sexually active Farkers but I like 'em beefy.

you can do side-bends and sit-ups and mini triathlons but please don't lose that butt

She's even wearing my number already ...

Well, for you Fark guys, the only thing she didn't do was run naked, so I guess the triathlon doesn't quite count...

FTA: e two day Zuma Beach event bills itself as a 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile ride, 4 mile run - all for one great cause.

A triathlon is simply 3 events (usually those three, but not necessarily). Just because she didn't do the Ironman doesn't mean she didn't do a triathlon.

She did something between a sprint tri and an Olympic Tri...
If you can do a 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile ride and a 4 mile run in 2:23 THEN you can make snide comments...
OK, I take that back, you still can't...
It's an event that demands respect. You can't buy it, you have to train for it, and that takes a LOT of time and effort...
and it takes a lot of courage to just step up to the starting line...

Standard Deviant 2008-09-14 10:16:57 PM
I think those distances would generally count as a standard sprint distance triathlon. The bike might be a little short, but a sprint tri is generally 800 meter swim (1/2 mile) and a 5K run (3.5 miles) and something more like a 20+ mile bike. It doesn't look like a lot to bite off, but I had to train for months to be able to do all of that in one event.

The Hypnotoad 2008-09-14 11:40:47 PM
A sprint triathlon is still a triathlon. She's a triathlete in my book even if she doesn't do an Ironman distance, in the same way that Usain Bolt is a hell of a runner even if he can't run a marathon.

They're tough because the distances are shorter, and consequently you are pushing yourself all out. I've done sprint, Oly, and half, and they are each tough in their own way. Oly and half are more about pacing...sprints are more about making your lungs explode from exertion.

Jument 2008-09-15 01:35:33 AM
That's a short tri but it's still "real". Even the short ones hurt a lot. Heck there's a lot of people out there who couldn't even job 4 miles.

/ran 12 miles today

I'll have to map out a good half-mile out-and-back swim somewhere, but then I'll let you know how long it all takes. My only 5K was about 32 minutes, and an 18-mile ride, if it's flat and not too windy, shouldn't be much over an hour (yeah, I'm way outta shape), so that just leaves the swim.

/Never done a triathlon.
//Would love to do a short one like this sometime for starters
///Works with ironman finishers...

How and when did guys allow themselves to be indoctrinated with this notion that a fat ass is somehow sexy? It sure wasn't the popular consensus half a generation ago.

Despite myself, I find that I have slightly more respect for J.Lo now.

Exactly. I started out doing sprints and there is nothing "easy" about them.

/up to 1/2 Iron Man distance now
//probably won't ever get to full Iron Man

What's crazy is that there are some people that find a regular Ironman 'too easy' and have to do triples, or quads or quints or 10x or 15x distance ones.

Actually that is close to a fairly standard "Sprint" distance Tri. Those can actually be more brutal, because they are generally all out from start to finish.

wygit 2008-09-15 05:44:51 PM
Just a correction...
I read the first set of distances in the story.
Lopes ( and McConaughey ) did the Sprint distance, billed at 1/2 mile swim, 12.4 mile (20k) bike and a 3.1 mile (5k) run.

So it is an "Official" distance... one of half a dozen.
I admire her for what she did. It takes guts and hard work.

I've never done a tri, and have no idea how I'd do in a 5k following the swim and ride, but I know it would hurt.

I've done 3 marathons so far, ( started running when I was 50 ), and the hardest part ( for me ) is not quitting at mile 21 ...

how about the crazy people that do the Ultra Marathons?? 100 miles...no thanks!

2:23 is a pretty decent time for a first timer "Athena." Way to go, JLo. You are a triathlete.

//Clydesdales FTW

rga184 2008-09-16 01:40:43 AM
subby obviously never gets out of his armchair. her tri is pretty standard, it doesn't have to be an ironman.

Her time isn't the best it the world, but then again, when people run a marathon their friends aren't impressed that they ran it fast, they're impressed that they ran it at all. They don't even have a concept of what a fast marathon is.

From what I can see, she exerted herself for over two hours that day. Even if she was going at 60% VO2Max, it's still not bad for a day's work. Probably more than subby did that day.

/didn't run today
//got nasty shin-spints, only ran 30mins yesterday, but added 15 mins of rowing right when I decided to stop running.
///damn you, shin splints!!!
