I don't know -- I dislike editing for that same reason but I have read it twice now and I don't see how it fundamentally changed her answer. In fact, I think in a way, it paints her in a better light. She goes on for two paragraphs about how "we must not repeat the cold war." And then Gibson goes on to point out a scenario where that could happen. This, of course, puts her previous comments in stark relief. So, I don't know I just dont see it.

Have to say, the editing was all around horrible for the interview. It jumped around like crazy.

But I'm not sure what the real problem is here. She said a few contradictory things in terms of Russia. I guess the editing just picks one, and goes with it.

If anything, i think it helps her, as the interview at least showed that she isn't completely confused as to what to do with Russia.

To paraphrase:
"We have to be friends with Russia, we have to cooperate"
versus
"We can't let them control the energy supply of the region, we've got to be vigilant"


Most of that doesn't really jive. ABC did her a favor, they edited it to basically what McCain says about Russia, rather than show the confusion on her part (if it's not confusion, it's pure naivety).
