Exactly. And therein is *supposed* to lie the lesson.

If the church did kick people out for that type of thing, you'd have a much cleaner church with a much better reputation. As it is, they practice forgiveness instead, which is nice and everything, but it doesn't help their image.

And likewise, if I were a church going person, and the priest slept with someone's wife, I'd leave the church. The fact that people *don't* further messes up the church's ability to be the 'moral beacon.'
