well, to be fair, he was trying to say "both candidates" and then only cite examples from obama (it was the omg but mccain can't use a keyboard bullshiat).

he couldn't seem to bring himself to actually cite an example for mccain, and skirted around calling it lying when mccain was the subject.

so he's still a douchebag.

I'm still not quite sure why McCain's war injuries prevent him from sending e-mail. I really don't care otherwise, but does anyone situate their computer over their heads or even above their waist?

My dad shot a big hunk of his hand and one of his fingers off. He can (and does for hours at a time) send a huge volume of emails. Hell, I severed all the tendons in my right hand, and I can type faster than anyone I know.

And all that aside, speech recognition software has been out there for years. This "OMG my shoulders don't work so I can't be bothered to learn how to email" excuse is pretty farking lame.

All that aside, when Rove says it's gotten too Rovian, I fear for my life.

FTA: "But they then say he doesn't ...send e-mail. Well, this is because his war injuries keep him from being able to use a keyboard. He can't type. You know, it's like saying he can't do jumping jacks."

Bullshiat. You should see all the different kinds of adapted keyboards there are out there. John McCain isn't the only person in the world with his particular disability. There is not reason he couldn't find an adapted keyboard, or even get one custom made. He can afford it. What pisses me off is Rove trying to play the "lay off, he's a wounded veteran" card, when there is no reason McCain couldn't do the same things able-bodied people do, with the right adaptations.

Except jumping jacks. Rove was right about that one.

This. He also tried to give both candidates advice for how to stop the mud-slinging, yet still managed to only give advice to Obama - basically stop attacking Palin, go after McCain, but don't make it look like an attack, etc.

What really kills me is that they interview the guy as though he is an unbiased observer who just happens to be an advisor to McCain *wink, wink, nod, nod*

Yes, I am looking at you Senator McCain.

BladBoy: A very good friend of mine has CP and can barely use his hands and arms. I get emails from him all the time, he uses a regular keyboard and he doesn't play the victim.

So... if McCain isn't using a computer to write his own speeches, does he write them all by hand ? Does he just dictate any bills he authors to someone who types them for him?

I know... the first question is a strawman because McCain does not write his own speeches.

As for the topic at hand. Rove is right about the "stretching the truth" thing and the not 100% true thing. Generally speaking attack ads need to have an angle that makes them 100% true even if the attack ad is a little misleading. There usually has to be at least one path where if you look at it JUST right, it's 100% true. With McCain's ads, sometimes that path to it being true at all is simply not there.

Sadly, the McCain campaign seems to be using the "we'll just say a whole bunch of bullshiat and hope that people will buy some of it and take it to heart" tactic. Personally I think that is a pretty lame way to try and win the highest office in the land. I think candidates should try to win the presidency based on their beneficial qualities and skill.

But hey... Republicans have a tendency to enjoy the "lie and see what sticks" policy. They voted for Bush. They got exactly what they wanted. Someone who was well practiced at telling lies to the American people. What is shocking is that many of those same people seemed shocked that after lying about nearly everything in the campaign, Bush turned around and lied to them some more as president. A few seemed to have recognized that and turned their backs to Bush and the Republican party, but some still try to pass it off as "mistakes" made by them and not "outright lies". McCain is attempting to win over that same group of people who REALLY don't want to believe their candidates would lie to them. It might work for him. There are loads of people who just want to be lied to. I'm glad I'm not one of those people. I'm glad to see there are more people around these days that are every bit as sick of the lies as well.

Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait until November to see how this is all going to pan out. Will Republicans demand truth and integrity from their candidate? Or will they accept the same kind of shiat they've been eating up for the last eight years?

I seen people who are quadriplegic use a computer so McCain who has millions of dollar to invest in adapative tech can't get around to doing that he's being pathetic. I'm sorry but that excuse is giving wounded vets a bad rep.

Secondly, WTF does jumping jacks have to do with using a computer?

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Rove said McCain had "gone one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100 percent truth test."

Baby steps, Karl. Baby steps.

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it sounds like he did his best to stretch that quote out so that it wouldn't fit neatly into a short soundbite. If Karl Rove says "These ads are lies," that's going into every ad from now until November 4th.

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2008-09-14 02:50:07 PM
Outside of the talking point repeating about McCain being the only person with arm injuries in the world and thus being unable to use a keyboard, that was hysterical. I'd put that in a 30-second spot if I were on the media team. "When even Karl Rove says you've 'gone too far' with your 'not 100% true' ads, John McCain, you've got a problem..."

The real reason he doesn't use email is that it's one more thing that can be subpoenaed. He doesn't want to leave a paper trail when he commits crimes.

This "too disabled to email" thing is total horseshiat. Farking quadriplegics can use email, and McCain doesn't appear to be that disabled. Judging from video, it appears he can easily move his hands, which is all he needs to be able to do to use a keyboard.

Probably not -- I imagine that the right-wingers who don't consider Rove a lying sack of shiat will likely latch onto the fact that he criticized Obama for making fun of McCain's war injuries, and completely gloss over the fact that McCain's ad's aren't "100% the truth" (i'm sure they'll justify it by saying it's more true than not, so it's ok). It also brings Obama down to McCain's level so that voters who were on the fence but had conservative leanings will be able to say, "well, they're both terrible, at least I'll vote for my party".

Rove is the master of political spin and I'm wary of anything that comes out of that ass's mouth.
