National Review is so precious. Almost as precious as when I canceled my subscription, when I was 15. Without WFB they are simply a whining rag with no view for the future; except that liebrals are fascist terrorists who want to rape and eat us.

Unfortunately, it's a letter from a reader in Finland.

Self-delusion takes its toll. It's not easy to deal with cognitive dissonance, and eventually it will tire out those who are determined to keep from making an honest analysis of the republican ticket.

Fault in the argument: Palin isn't a celebrity.

The only reason why I'd even heard of her was because she was mentioned in a couple of Fark threads last year (hottie governor, I'd hit it, etc.).

The furor over her has been:
1. A WTF/who? reaction.
2. Bloggers speculating over her personal life
3. Democrat-loving kool-aid drinkers finding any reason to hate any Republican candidate (and try to convince you to agree with them)
4. Republican machine marketing her as a brand/image. The "purchase" is your vote.

She is as much of a celebrity as Barack Obama is.

Although I'd argue McCain (who spends his time going on shows like The View, Rachel Ray and Jay Leno and has done so for decades) is a much bigger celebrity than the other two.

Why?

Last I read, McCain wanted Lieberman and selecting Palin was a big F-you to the party bosses that stopped his first choice.

How is it an "F-you" to pick the person your party bosses wanted?

Picking liebermann anyway would have been the F-you

Sure, but when people attack Obama for being a celebrity they mean he is a popular personality and are insinuating he doesn't have real political talent or experience.

Palin is 100% a personality pick. She has a horrible record as Gov and mayor and even more so a record that clashes with McCain's main arguments (she has no foreign policy experience, she was the earmark queen, etc.)

She is much more of a "celebrity" pick in that sense than Obama.

It's like you're suggesting there are people we've never heard of. Then they become famous and people talk about them all the time. Polls show them as being very popular. But after 2 months of having their no-talent face in our homes, people get sick of them.

If that's the case, I discovered this name in my research: Sanjaya Malakar.

Is it like him? People loved that guy. There were websites and everything. Then he just disappeared after eight weeks. One day he's top of the world, the next he's ...where IS Sanjaya?

Lets clarify here: elections are (ironically) Natural Selection based. I hate Palin, but if it's McCain/Palin or a Democratic presidency, I would prefer McCain/Palin. She is a cheap gimmick, but this election is so close that neither side can afford NOT to take the cheap shots. If they don't, they are assured defeat.

This is, unfortunately, not an election in which anyone can afford purism and ideological fidelity, or they will lose those crucial swing voters to whom dumbass things like vaginas and "mere community organizing" count more than ideological identity.

Per capita? What is Obama's earmarks in total dollars? Since dollars = dollars it makes sense to keep avoiding the total dollar figure of Obama's earmark, and keep shouting, "lookit the per capita!!!!"
