Wait a minute, though. The people I see in those pictures are white. They won't need rescuing, and they will almost certainly refuse all Federal aid dollars as well. They're responsible that way.

Exactly. Check out the bootstraps on that guy. He's just gonna reach down there and pull. He doesn't need the government's help. He's too proud of his own accomplishments to take any of their "welfare money". Only lazy, shiftless people need government handouts.

I wonder if this will cause all the Katrina refugees who never left Houston to go take refuge back in New Orleans.

SwiftFox [TotalFark] 2008-09-14 12:22:24 PM
Well, there should be no hurry, since they faced "certain death".

What?

bigglady 2008-09-14 12:22:24 PM
I say leave 'em where they are with no Fed benefits. They were warned and warned and they chose to stay. They can now reap the consequences of their stupid decision. And if they stayed in hopes of getting Feb money, then they really need to be left alone. High and dry, so to speak.

/aisle seat, no peanuts. I will be forced to watch The Perfect Storm over and over all the way there.

US President George Bush will visit the area on Tuesday charities are working on getting aid to those whose homes have been flooded.

Apparently the writer's mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives, which renders him unable to separate sentences.

Exactly. How can it be "certain death" if they're rescued?

So much for consequences... Now how are they ever gonna learn?!

This is my favorite quote on this situation.

"Two o'clock this morning made a believer out of all of them," said the 52-year-old Mayfield. Jesus.

To try to equate to the complete helplessness and ignorance of the thousands of people who stayed in New Orleans to the current situation is just stupid. Nice try, assmitter.

White people help out white people. Unlike black folks who only think about themselves while waiting for the government to give them things.

Didnt you know this?

Look at our presidential race...the black guy only talks about what the government will do for you, while the white guy talks about what you can do for yourself.

Whether or not they chose to stay, their homes were still destroyed. The rebuilding aid offered to 'stayers' ought to be the same as 'leavers'.

Since the National Weather Service promised certain death to those who stayed behind, I think we should send helicopter gunships to kill them from the air. It's not like they weren't warned.

You know, most people in Houston (at least, those that I talked to, and it's a big city, so I've only talked to a tiny minority, for what it's worth) seemed to be pretty understanding of the people of New Orleans. The city largely opened up to refugees from New Orleans, only getting pissed off when crime rates rose.

Most of the people I've heard getting all hot and bothered about the Katrina victims were from places other than Texas. In fact, most seemed to be from places like the Midwest and Northeast.

But don't let that get in the way of your bullshiat.

Well, I'm sure things will get better when Air Force One comes in, and people who should be working on the recovery and restoration of services have to stop to cater to and protect the president. The guy isn't going to help at all, and should stay in the White House.

I remember back when Lyndon Johnson was president, and we had bad flooding in Minnesota, thousands of people were sandbagging, the flood waters were rising. In comes Air Force One, with a transport plane for the limos, and the President Big Ears motorcade goes down to one of the sandbagging operations for a photo opportunity. Lots of handshaking, microphones all pointed at Johnson, who pledges Federal Aid, more photos, more handshaking and back-pounding, and everyone gets back in the limos and drives away.

The story was on every channel that night, but one local reporter put in a cute ending to his version of the event saying, "as the presidential motorcade was leaving, I overheard one sandbagger say to the fellow next to him "Well, the water didn't go down any ... "

So if they had evacuated, their homes wouldn't have been destroyed right? Did you mean they should have moved their homes (not all Texans live in trailers), or did you think that they would receive more federal aid if they did not evacuate? Yeah some of these people are idiots but whether they evacuated or not will not affect how much FEMA money they may receive.

I think that the West side of Galveston has sustained massive damage and deaths.
Every time a reporter asked any city official at a news meeting about it, they would brush it off instead of denying it. In politics when you deliver bad news you hold off until you know the extent; you don't deny it because that's lying but you dodge it until you can tell the whole story.
The national guard is preventing reporters from going past seawall into the Western end.
If the seawall was topped at 15 feet and solid pieces of concrete were being knocked out of it, imagine what would happen to unprotected houses on stilts in sand.
As one of the reporters said before going home, 'I dont want to spread rumors because I'm not an official source, but after talkin to alot of Galveston police we're going to be hearing alot of very sad stories about people who didn't make it over the next 24, 48 hours.'

See that concrete building in the background that is still standing?

That's how you build houses - that or with bricks.
Why people living in hurricane ridden areas use wood for their houses is just... not smart
