(NME) Interesting Jack White slams Coca-Cola for using his new James Bond song in their ads, which would give him some nice anti-corporate credibility if, you know, he hadn't already done a commercial for them two years ago   (nme.com) divider line 25

If he thinks this is bad, wait until they use him to promote coffee and cigarettes.

You know, Nikola Tesla perceived the earth to be a conductor of acoustical resonance.

I can understand his point. He wrote a song for the film's soundtrack. The work he did for Coca-Cola was specifically for Coca-Cola. It's not like licensed a White Stripes or Raconteurs song.

By the way, he didn't exactly "slam" them. It was a pretty reasonable and level-headed statement.

James Bond has always been a product placement whore but Pepsi? That's a new low.

"We are disappointed that you first heard the song in a co-promotion for Coke Zero, rather than in its entirety."

Sounds reasonable to me...

His coke ad(p), for those who haven't seen it. Aired in Australia.

I can see why Jack's upset. After all, he carried that song all the way here in a little red wagon.

/are you saying I'm a Taco Bell kind of guy?

Jack White sucks and his Bond theme is awful
Call me a troll, thats fine, but he is not a good musician.

I won't call you a troll, just a person with bad taste.

Jack White gave up all musical credibility when he decided his (ex-) wife was a good enough drummer to take outside, much less to record an album with.

The Coke Zero commercial in question (pops) is very Bondish and I kinda like it. Beats the shiat out of most tv spots these days.

But I don't think he really has a right to complain. He wrote the song for the movie, and the suits in charge control what and how things are used. If they were using a song he wrote for his own catalog of music and then said they could use it just for the movie, I would understand.

With the Gotham Pizza and the Spider Man burger is it really a suprise to White that James Bond would be used to sell Coke?

would like to contest that. (new window) Not saying he's the best, but I've seen them live and it's one hell of a performance. He's true to himself and his music and his albums probably sold more than yours too.

She's got big foobies, though.

Jack White has never had any credibility to music whatsoever.

Some of you know im pretty outspoken about musicians selling out, but God Darnit, that first coke ad (not the james bond one, the first one) is so FREAKING CATCHY, it s actually some of his best work

the Bond one didn't do much for me, though

I love all you dickheads that are so harsh on Jack and Meg White.

First of all I doubt ANY of you are even actually musicians.

Ok--I admit the following is embarrassingly ironic but--

As I am an old dumb bass player I tell you this:

When I was young 20 years ago I would have gladly traded my left nut for a chance to jam with a couple of kids like Jack and Meg. A guitarist who can play like Ry Cooder and a simple drummer who doesn't throw out a bunch of tricky fills every other measure.

The IRONY is that they don't even bother to play with a bassist.

Okay, you already hate me ;)

/I play drums like I play bass: Like I'm playing a lead guitar.
//The original AW!

speaking of playing with no bassist; The Kills. VERY AWESOME, and very stripped down.

I take it all you JW bashers have seen him play live, right?

Thought not. Say what you will, but when you see him live he has a sense of showmanship and talent that you hardly see in any current artists. Pissoff.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache: Jack White has never had any credibility to music whatsoever.

He produced Loretta Lynn's last album and won a grammy doing that. Every time the White Stripes put an album out now it gets them a Grammy. Jack White is in a side group called The Raconteurs, whose debut effort saw two Grammy nominations. The folks over at EON productions commissioned him to write the theme to their latest James Bond film.

Should he instead sell his songs to Guitar Hero and Rock Band?
