Maybe we should look into some original American voting practices where the female elders voted for the male leader.

TFA does point out that more than half say gender makes no difference. At least among people in that county.

I don't get what submitter is getting at? Is he/she appalled that only 6% feel that women make better leaders than men? A vast majority feel gender does not make the difference.

Would it be to far fetched to require some sort of intelligence test before any citizen was allowed to vote? You know...color matching or maybe basic arithmetic?

Then again, that might disqualify half of the American population.

69% said the two sexes were equal, way to sensationalise an unremarkable survey!

The best boss I have ever had was a woman (I am a dude). While I think her "drive to acheive" bordered on weirdness, she certainly was the most reasonable, smart, tactful, admirable, honest boss I have ever had. Period.

And now that I think about it, so were my 2nd and 3rd best bosses.

And now that I think about it more, my WORST boss ever was also a woman, so I guess I don't know what that means.

The fact that over three times that number think men the better leaders is probably a bad sign, though.

PoopStain: If women could get the psycho hosebeast aspect under control they would probably rule the earth. Since they can't, men have to take over.

Yep. And the biatchiness, as well.

People take the time to PhotoShop Palin, but never get the crazy runaway bride eyes out of them. Hillary has crazy eyes, too.

And every boss I ever hated was a woman... the men are usually cooler, more understanding, and more flexible. Women get too biatchy and competitive... and catty. The lady I work for now... good god, I want to grab her labia by forceps and put them in a waffle iron. The best company I ever worked for was 7 guys and 1 girl, me. The layoffs were crushing as I realized the odds of that happening again were/are slim to none.

I also have never had a drive to be "the boss," myself. I like doing what I do best, and don't have that weird "I'm a woman!! I must succeed! And hear me roar while I am at it!" complex. I'm happy being a woman, but I'd rather not run around being a total biatch to be "successful" -- especially since most of them show their "success" by being biatches to other women.

I think they're secretly very insecure and scared of losing their precious power.

There are more women than men in college. The are more young female lawyers than male, and most politicians are lawyers.

Women are acting like immigrants. They are moving into the job market sector by sector. They dominate teaching already. They are moving up market in medicine. They totally own marketing. And they are going to take over the legal profession in a couple decades, if current trends continue.

I predict they will start ruling America pretty sonn, even though it isn't obvious now.

Would have been a perfect score had you mentioned that once they took over personnel and renamed it "human resources", it was all downhill from there.

Just like a woman, bites the hand when they are thrown a bone. LOL, a joke obviously, so put down your nutcracker.

I agree with you, and in a perfect world your dream would be reality. But no matter how perfect you would like to dream the situation, women, as of today, are always judged based partially on their gender, as are people of color, based on their skin. It is a sad, but inextricable part of the work force culture today. It will take more time and effort to end this tragic reality forever.

It depends on the person, really. I know lots of women that put up a very strong, independent front, but when the shiat hits the fan they're the first to fall back on the "Protect me, I'm a woman!" aspect of our society. One in particular actually, after a car accident that was her fault, demanded to be helped by the paramedics first because she was a woman, and that's just how it is done. Never mind the other guy had a fractured femur and was bleeding like a stuck pig, she had a cut on her forehead that was bleeding all over her power suit!

It's like the old people that demand that they be respected for their wisdom and knowledge by anyone younger than them. As soon as they get nailed with a "contractor" that says they want to help them invest in improving their home and run off with their life savings when they turn over their bank account numbers for "ease of payment." They want to enjoy all the benefits that the image of the strong person of their demographic, but simultaneously want to enjoy the special treatment that the stereotypical weaknesses of that demographic gave them.

If they reject the special treatment at the same time as "making their own way," more power to 'em. I've known more than a couple like that too. But all to often, people are infatuated with the image and not the work that goes with it.

I have been unlucky to have had quite some women as bosses. All had severe moodswings, took everything personal, favoured certain people they liked regardless of actual results, were chaotic, authoritarian, unreasonable, irrational, overtly competitive and vindictive. I am still willing to accept that there are exceptions to the stereotype, somewhere, but I think in general I can say I do not like to work under female managers.

Subby: way to play up the controversial number and gloss over the majority number that think gender doesn't matter!

6% is a good number for this answer and implies that most women are not misandrists.

On another note, Firefox claims that misandrist is not a word but misogynist is. Other dictionaries like m-w and freedictionary do though. According to post-prison/pre-Mecca Malcolm X logic, Firefox's dictionary must be maintained by female supremacists!

WorldCitizen [TotalFark] 2008-09-14 12:00:32 PM
Who would have guessed, a subby submitted a misleading headline.

The real story here is that the vast majority of people said that women and men had an equal capacity to lead. I would say that is the best outcome. Anyone saying men or women would be superior leaders comes of sounding sexist either way.

Sounds like the girls I know from Saudi Arabia. It's quite amazing to hear about how controlling their government is, and perhaps more so to hear how much they agree with the reasoning behind it.

I don't think men are innately better leaders than women. It's a hormonal thing. Testosterone is a better leadership hormone than Estrogen, especially if it influences the brain early enough prenatally. More "1+2=3" and less "WHAREJAGLJBJELJK MOTHERSCANDOANYTHING!!"

Sure, if your version of leadership is to get angry and throw spears at the problem. I know that's what my testosterone wants me to do when the going gets tough. However, I would hope that in the 21st century we don't run the world using our gonads.
