Well, to be fair, one of the few remaining polar bears relayed the news to her by tin-can telephone.

If "I can see Russia from my house" becomes a zeitgeisty catchphrase for voters when thinking about Palin, that newness shine and the McCain polling bump goes bye bye fast.

Is there a proper term for the revulsion I feel when 88 people are most likely dead and all we can talk about is some stupid bint who will go down in history as a political footnote?

Really? THIS?

I get the Palin hate and I'm certainly on the hating Palin side, but this green headline for the death of 88 people?

Yeah, don't give me a "welcome to Fark"; I've been here for a while. Let's not throw "funny" insults at uninvolved third parties where a farkload of deaths are involved, okay?

It's interesting so many witnesses "thought a war was starting."

Shows a difference between us and them. Americans would never consider that possibility. Terrorists, sure. War, nope.

Tell that to anyone in a thread about a US crash; 88 would qualify for the Imperial measurement if it was in Ohio.

It's an undeniable tragedy. No one disputes that. Do you really want (or expect) a FARK thread to be full of nothing but morose bon mots of sympathy for the passengers?

It's a sad thing, without doubt; but tomorrow we'll still have a Vice-Presidential candidate who, with no irony or self-deprecating humor, is literally citing her relative physical proximity to a largely uninhabited part of Russia as a bona fide foreign-policy credential.

In the grand scheme, that's more disturbing than any aviation accident.

Meh. I just mean there are plenty (PLENTY) of faults to point out in Palin. Did we really need a greenlit thread about an unrelated plane crash that took the lives of 88 people to be referenced to her faults and lack of experience?

Is Palin's daughter's pregnancy relevant to the national discussion? Is the (alleged) controversy about her last pregnancy relevant? Is her proximity to Russia relevant?

Maybe the last one is relevant to her foreign policy deficiencies.

But what the fark does any of that have to do with the horrific, terrifying deaths of 88 people?

I've admitted twice that I'm no Palin fan, but really this whole "I Hate Palin" think needs to be toned down a bit.

Yeah her faults need to be highlighted (shouted from the rafters), but attacking her on stupid unrelated shiat just doesn't do the cause any good.

Joxette 2008-09-14 04:19:37 AM
I never used to be afraid of flying until I flew Aeroflot from Paris to Leningrad in 1989. It was without a doubt the most terrifying, non-turbulence related flight I have ever taken. I thought that the plane would fall apart since it was so old and rattly!

No problems were reported with the 15-year-old jet when it was last inspected at the beginning of 2008, Aeroflot Deputy Director Lev Koshlyakov said.

You know, Lev...maybe if you increased the frequency of the inspections, burning airplanes crashing into the ground and turning normal folks into hamburger would not be an Aeroflot issue.

Boeing = American company. How long until until Pravda reports on the American cause of the crash?

Duh, they're Russians. It's not like they're real people. And besides, there has to be at least 15 Palin related headlines per day, to meet the quota.

Actually, it's kind of a smart move. Palin fatigue will set in within about a month.

This headline bought to you by automatic-threadjack.com.

This is why the left is the permanent minority. Either you're a liberal or you're stupid. That elitist mentality is what will keep you all as a permanent minority.

Not that I expect the dull and predictable Obamaniacs to acknowledge it, but being a governor of a border state DOES give that person experience with international matters. Definitely more so than being a community organizer in Illinois.

Ya, I have to agree. I submitted hours and hours ago with a headline that stuck to the story at hand and had just the tiniest hint of semi-tasteful humor to it. Obviously it was rejected, since it wasn't politicized.

Absolutely. Senate committee membership is worthless, which is one of the reasons that Senators don't tend to be elected President. (And which makes this Senator vs. Senator election so unusual. At least the McCain/Palin ticket has SOME executive experience, unlike the 'Career Neighborhood Organizer/Career Senator' ticket.)

So you call the Constitutionally awarded power to make treaties and declare war "worthless"? Very telling. Then again, it's just a goddamned piece of paper...

And BTW: To date, fifteen senators have gone onto serve in the nation's highest elected office, the presidency. Two senators, Warren G. Harding and John F. Kennedy, moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House. Source (^).

No, it just shows most people are not buying what the Dems are selling. Given the shrillness of the libs on Fark and assuming they are representative of the democrat constituency, small wonder.

Epistax 2008-09-14 08:07:33 AM
Does anyone think that the outcome of this election will be of less importance than the death of 88 people? I don't know which side would be worse. Hell we might be choosing between the death of 88,000 people and 88,000,000 people this election. One thing for sure.. it's more than 89.

Bailey Quarters 2008-09-14 08:23:37 AM
I've flown on Aeroflot several times. The international flights aren't bad, but boy, flying between points in Russia - those flights make you just close your eyes and hope for the best.
