FTA: "It's not rocket science," Palin said, according to the town newspaper, the Frontiersman. "It's $6 million and 53 employees."

Wow. She really is a Bush clone.

1.Walk in strutting, saying "Pfft. I got this, y'all chill out."
2.Walk away leaving it a mess, still crowing about what a badass you were.

"Sarah always did and still does surround herself with people she gets along well with," she said. "They protect her, and that's what she needs. She has surrounded herself with people who would not allow others to disagree with Sarah. Either you were in favor of everything Sarah was doing or had a black mark by your name."

New York Public Interest Research Group is ACORN? Ummm no.
Developing Communities Project? No again.
"Project Vote!" isn't ACORN either despite what Michelle Malkin says.

If we're going to insinuate shadowy connections then Google Cheney and "Abuse of Power". It's as much "proof" as what you've offered.

Want 4 more years of completely unearned swagger, cronyism, abuse of power for personal gains and vendettas, and absolutely no farking clue about how the rest of the world operates? Vote McCain/Palin and make America's journey to the dark side complete.

I like thoughtful people. A pause in speaking is rarely a sign of lack of thought.

What do you do? When you speak practically to the whole world with every public breath?

And really, after 8 years of Bush mangling english so well, David Letterman can make a nearly-nightly joke out of it (Great Moments in Presidential Speech), I can't imagine it bothers you TOO much.

Even if you grant that her limited time as a small town mayor and governor equates to the experience necessary to be VP and/or President, one only needs to look at the reports of how she surrounds herself with yes men and cronies and purges those that disagree with her in a way that would make Stalin blush to realize that she could be incredibly dangerous if given any real power.

The honeymoon is ending. She tried to play the idea that questioning her qualifications amounted to sexism, but the media is finally doing their job. If people listen and realize how unqualified she truly is, then this race will be over.

Hey, Washington Post, Palin's a governor.

And Obama's a U.S. Senator. He's not a farking community organizer anymore but you guys seem to think he went straight from that role to presidential candidate.

Although the town had a $4 million surplus, Palin cut the museum budget by $32,000, and the three older women who worked there quit instead of deciding which would have to go. But Palin dipped into the budget to create the deputy administrator slot, which some council members complained was at odds with her small-government stance. She told city officials not to talk to reporters. A recall effort in early 1997 fizzled out, but hard feelings lingered. "Working in small towns, I had never seen someone come in and clean house like that in such a precipitous manner. It was pretty scary and emotional," said Dvorak, the city planner, who left after eight months.

Deuser, the former city attorney, said it was upsetting to hear the McCain campaign refer to Palin's takeover as a matter of getting rid of the "good ol' boy network."

"They were just good public servants who did a really admirable job and deserved better," said Deuser, who was replaced in 1997.

...

Langill, the former councilwoman, said the new hires fit Palin's management style.

"Sarah always did and still does surround herself with people she gets along well with," she said. "They protect her, and that's what she needs. She has surrounded herself with people who would not allow others to disagree with Sarah. Either you were in favor of everything Sarah was doing or had a black mark by your name."

...

Despite the city's flush accounts, the police department under the chief Palin hired to replace Stambaugh required women who said they had been raped to pay for examination kits themselves, a policy Palin now says she rejects. State legislation passed a year later required the town to pay for the kits.

Not traits I want to see in a VP or a president.

A Governor of a state with a population smaller than over a dozen American cities, overseeing a budget smaller than some counties. And yet she still sucked down more Federal dollars per head than any other state just to keep the lights on. Stellar record, go with that.

Her Wasillia years are supposedly when she blossomed into the governing genius Republicans worship today. It's worth mentioning that the first thing she did was spend municipal funds to create a position for someone else to do the actual work.

Honestly, I can find three or four times as many people 20 miles from my apartment as Palin can find in her whole state. Not that it matters that much, but.. y'know, contextualizing size and scope.

Another inconvenient truth the Republicans tend to gloss over when discussing Obama is the fact that he was a university professor of constitutional law.

How cool would that be to have a President, for once, who didn't treat the constitution as a hindrance! Obama has spent many years studying the constitution and has shown a great respect for the principles upon which it was founded, and the inspirations of its design.

It's interesting how Palin claims that a mayor has responsibilities, yet she refuses to take responsibility for any of her less popular budget decisions. Like this one:

New Evidence: Palin Had Direct Role In Charging Rape Victims For Exams (new window)

Mayor Stein told OffTheBus that he didn't "think victims were billed while [he] was mayor," but that he wasn't certain. He did mention that "Wasilla participated in establishing a Sexual Assault Response Team to set-up a one-stop forensic exam room for victims," evidence of a pro-victim police department. In order to confirm his assertion about the billing policy, he recommended I contact current police chief Angella Long for confirmation. She did not return my request for comment.

However, I was able to eventually track down Irl Stambaugh, police chief of Wasilla from the founding of the department until Sarah Palin fired him for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern." Stambaugh sued for breach of contract, but lost when a federal judge ruled that "police chiefs serve at the behest of the mayor unless otherwise specified." He later served as the executive director of the Alaska Police Standards Council.

It turns out that Wasilla did not bill sexual assault victims for the cost of rape exams while Irl Stambaugh was chief of police. As chief, he had included a line item in the budget to pay for the cost of such exams. He had only just heard about the Mayor Palin/Chief Fannon policy today, and was just as shocked to hear about it as I was.

Checking the budget confirmed former Chief Stambaugh's claim. He had included a contingency of $15,000 in his budget for the department's 1st year of existence (1993-1994), $5,000 for 1994-1995 and 1995-1996, and $13,000 for his final year as police chief in 1996-1997, spending $11,625.

Duwayne Charles Fannon, his replacement, halved the budget request in 1997-1998, with a request of $7,298, spending $3,454. However, it seems he began the "victim pays" policy in the 1998-1999 fiscal year. That year, he requested $3,000 but spent only $205. This data can be found in the Document Central section of Wasilla's website.

Hey, Washington Post, Palin's a governor.

Obama's a United States Senator. Before that, he was a state senator. The issue shouldn't be "executive experience" since Sarah doesn't really have any at the national level. In fact, she doesn't know anything about national politics or international politics, as she has shown.

I have no doubt she has a bright political mind, as every article has pointed out. She understands politics and how to get people to vote for her. However, she uses short term tactics. Very similar to the ones Bush and Cheney used. But notice, once their policies started affecting people where it counts (Katrina, the right to die (terry schiavo), the economy), people started to pay attention to them and realized they are full of crap.

As mayor she failed at her only task (for which she appointed herself)- building an ice rink. She left the town in debt, couldn't handle making a deal, and left the project in disarray when she decided to run for governor.

Further, as any intelligent manager can tell you, she gambled her resources in favor of political appeal. You don't hire a public works manager with no engineering experience. She fired a cop because he didn't politically back her up on every issue. She campaigned to have a city attorney fired because he was stopping a developer friend of hers from following the rules. As governor, she hired a friend because she liked cows. These positions exist for a reason- to manage and run a town or state. They don't exist to amplify your image. If you're smart, you'll realize your image will be amplified a lot more if you hire the right people. But, at a national level, having qualified people in these positions is even more important. Do we need another 8 years of a politicized justice department? Do we need national federal agencies that are afraid to disagree or put out reports that don't amplify the presidents or vice presidents views?

Go play Sim City. Try to use Sarah Palin's tactics to develop your city. You'll quickly find out that when political garbage is removed, your strategies for development won't pan out. (And that's a simplified version of running a city, which she had to hire a manager to do).

Campaigning against the sales tax is one thing. But forgoing city planning (as the article mentioned), firing qualified public servants, and leaving a town of 6000 millions in debt coming from a budget surplus is mismanagement. (Especially with all pork her lobbyist achieved).

And that doesn't even account for her basic destruction of the town museum and library (which should have been an integral part of the sports complex- one wing is where you work out and play, the other wing is where you learn and read. There could have been a few shops in between to help finance, and the city would have gotten an excellent deal for its money, a place for children to congregate and play (without the meth), and she would have at least accomplished something).
