Not effective in fighting fires

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2008-09-14 02:33:46 AM
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
Smells like a steak, and seats thirty five?
Canyonero! Canyonero!

Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown
Canyonero! Canyonero!

Hey, hey!

Twelve yards long, two lanes wide,
Sixty five tons of American pride!
Canyonero! Canyonero!

Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
Canyonero! Canyonero!

She blinds everybody with her super high beams
She's a squirrel-squashin', deer-smackin' drivin' machine
Canyonero! Canyonero! Canyonero!

Whoa, Canyonero! Whoooooaaaa!

GeidiPrime 2008-09-14 02:42:59 AM
I'm going to go out on a crazy limb here, but I'm pretty sure with a strong Euro and probably a very good deal given by the car mfg to various publiic agencies/governments, so it probably a fairly decent deal for the German city.

/Same thing for U.S. agencies
//except we get fords and GMs : (
///and they get teh porsches, mercedes and beemers.

Littledogg 2008-09-14 02:43:56 AM
Why would you rescue fire?

the_chief 2008-09-14 02:48:52 AM
Remove all Republicans: Another example of how the Europeans are better than us. Americans refuse to pay the right amount of taxes to get ridden in style like that. Instead, we prefer to be treated like cattle by the private insurance companies. What a system we have.

In other words... I wish the US was socialist so we could get great free stuff from the capatalists.

robobular 2008-09-14 02:50:44 AM
Keep in mind this is in Stuttgart - the town where Porsche (and Mercedes for that matter) is headquartered.

It's a step. No, I wish the UN would get its act together and really push the nations of the world. World-wide, the system will work. It just needs the right leadership.

You know who else was a great socialist leader?

Is that the Cayenne? I could see that being a patient transport vehicle after modifications.

Porsche is a german car. most countries buy domestic cars.

Germany is the same country that typically uses bmw's for thier cop cars

referenced Here (new window)

Just like in the us all government officials are forced to drive american cars, same thing happens in germany. Do you really think that government officials really want to drive those overpriced crown vic pieces of crap that have zero handling? Hell no, but it is what it is.

btw, i dont see what the big fuss is about, cops and firefighters have ford expeditions here in the US.

A porsche cayenne goes for like $45-50k

A ford expedition goes for like $40-45k w/fire or police package.

Tiny acedote,

There was a showing of many classic Porsches near to where I live in a historic park. I was more interested in how some peeps could keep their classic cars running.

What? The fact that Germans can even afford something like while Americans are watching absolute chaos in New Orleans, Texas now, California consistently doesn't concern you? I mean, fine, it's a stupid waste but we can't even get what we need, let alone waste any money.

What in God's name are you babling about? Or, are you just retarded?

JaCiNto 2008-09-14 03:30:16 AM
As someone who lives in Stuttgart, I'm really getting a kick...

You're talking about a town that has Mercedes Taxi cabs and cop cars. The city (or the taxi company) gets a fleet discount by promising to by a bunch of the vehicles.

The article seems to hint at a bidding process, but I'm not sure what all it entailed.

The Godwin you are trying wasn't a socialist. He was a conservative. Extreme, but still a conservative.

GodWIN! (Don't try to tell me this doesn't count because he wasn't a REAL socialist.)

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2008-09-14 03:39:51 AM
Hey, RAR, we ALREADY spend more than that for our ambulances and rescues. And we don't have to retrofit them, they're built to spec for all the "medical apparatus".

And it's already expensive enough to take an ambulance ride that in most cities will last about 8-10 minutes. Why do you need to travel in a Porsche that will add another $300 onto your (non-insurance covered) bill?

Either you're too drunk, or not drunk enough.

ZurkisPhreek 2008-09-14 07:14:45 AM
The fact that only two were bought, hints at a test phase.

It may be that the old vehicles didn't really cut it anymore and they went looking for something new. I figure that several companies are bidding on a new contract and Porsche hopes to be able to make a servicable conversion on their Cayenne series (probably because it would be nice PR).

Of course, that's just a theory.

I don't work for Porsche so I'm looking for somebody to kick for these replies.

Also: will Stuttgart have to wait for Porsche to cannibalize the Diesel engines from Volkswagen before the damn things roll out of the factory or do they get to drive regular fuel ones?

Bah. Cayennes. *grumbles*

actually, hes right. Porsche, in Germany, is classified as(wait for it)........DOMESTIC! same as BMW and any other auto made there. the cost of these things is much lower cause A. no import fees(its a domestic, remember?)and B. its not a status symbol like it is here. you really should learn to look things up before you comment, and since you post on Fark you must have a computer, so i guess youre just too flippin lazy to worry about the truth.

The base price of a Porsche Cayenne in the US: $45k.
Porsche Cayenne in Germany: €52k ~ $74k

You were saying... ?

Porsche is based in Stuttgart.

This is hardly news.

The Germans take all of their machines very seriously.
