This is why there isn't a rampant fear of vegetarian zombies.

Bunnicula, on the other hand...

I thought veganism was the end result of brain damage. I guess it's a feedback loop.

These sharp canine teeth I have next to my lateral incisors didn't evolve because of rabid lettuce.

I can respect vegetarians who make a moral choice not to eat meat because of the abuse to animals in modern meat processing. It is brutal and ugly. But I do need a steak once in a while.

Veganism though... WOW.

You don't have to take them out of the chair. Just dislocate the hips and put the legs up over the arms of the chair.

troll headline, strict vegetarianism may lead to B12 deficiency which leads to neurological deficits

those now pissed off because their mamas forced them to eat their peas now feeling vindicated take this note: eating lots of meat (red especially) can give you colorectal cancer

everything in moderation

This appeared to be a pretty small sample on which to base a theory. I don't believe they proved cause and effect. Could it be that small and shrinking brains cause vegetarianism or veganism? There was also a bit about obesity and shrinking brains. Is there a link between veganism and obesity that I've missed? I think a shrinking brain is the cause of the obesity - they lack the awareness to understand the damage they do to themselves and the self-awareness to realize how bad they look.

And seasoning the meat with red peppers/cayenne will reduce your risk of colorectal cancer. Spicy steak wins.

Like you can't tell from the idiotic self impugning shiat that PETA sponsors.

"Brain scans of more than 1,800 people found that people who downed 14 drinks or more a week had 1.6% more brain shrinkage than teetotallers."

From TFA. Nobody noticed? Sounds like more evidence for the researchers.

Hm... I'd like to actually read the study, but TFA didn't mention the journal it will be published in or the study's authors.

Alcohol use, even mild alcohol use, causing brain damage (or brain shrinkage, however you want to call it) is not by any means a new discovery.

Can't beat a Chicago Steakhouse marinade done in a charcoal grill.

You can get B12 from Total cereal!

USA is one of the few places with fortified foods. Being a vegetarian elsewhere (even India) would probably be more difficult.

Shame on those who eat poor, defenseless plants. At least horses, cows, rabbits, and chickens have a fighting chance.

Tomji 2008-09-14 08:55:44 AM
Humans need really small amounts of B12 and they can be stored for months. They found that if you do not wash your hands after shiatting you can get enough B12 because B12 can be produced in the bowls by bacteria :)

Tomji 2008-09-14 08:56:48 AM
I'd like to put tchr2day into a metal cage of 1x1meter and shot him with a bolt through his stupid heads. Hey - he had a fighting chance!

eqtworld: Our evolutionary history as hominids goes back millions of years. Most scientists agree that our ability to hunt animals for meat gave us the raw protein that fueled the increasing size and complexity of our brains and made our gut smaller.

Our ancestors were eating meat even before they were humans.

Embrace your animal nature, we are omnivores, and have been since prehistory. Do not be ashamed of being a human, have a steak. There is no more reason to revert back to veganism than there is to try to unlearn spoken language and run around Africa searching for berries and dying at age 30.

If a Lion suddenly became self aware with an IQ of 100, would you try to feed it salad all day because it's natural proclivity to hunt game would suddenly be immoral?

Headline: Eating veggies shrinks the brain
FTFA:MELBOURNE:...Yeast extracts are one of the few vegetarian foods which provide good levels of the vitamin.

Also no byline, therefore we can safely assume that this is really a press release from those geniuses at Vegemite trying to open up an new market in India.

Crocodile 2008-09-14 09:14:48 AM
Eating veggies does NOT shrink the brain.

Vitamin B12 deficiency shrinks the brain.

Those aren't the same damn things, equivomitter.

Neospartan 2008-09-14 09:18:32 AM
From TFA:

Beer does less damage than wine according to a study in Alcohol and Alcoholism.

Researchers found that the hippocampus-the part of the brain that stores memories - was 10% smaller in beer drinkers than those who stuck to wine.

Wait, what? Which is it?

Neospartan 2008-09-14 09:19:51 AM
Crocodile: Eating veggies does NOT shrink the brain.

True. Eating veggies shrinks the wang.

Thunderpipes 2008-09-14 09:19:57 AM
Just ate a huge bowl of hamburger and turkey italian sausage, seasoned with red pepper and dried onions. My dinner will be a bunch of roast beef. I could crush a vegetarian between my ankles. Meat rocks.

Ate $25 bucks worth of awesome NY Strip the other night, and I was able to wrastle a Grizzly the next day. No, Vegans and veggies are weak, they will never be strong.

Seriously, the only hardcore vegetarians or vegans I run into are all universally skinny, weak, and just bonkers. They almost never drink either.

Pirate Satellite 2008-09-14 09:30:34 AM
So wine is good for your heart and bad for your brain? I wish they'd quit coming out with info about how everything helps one thing and ruins another. Their sample sizes are usually ridiculously small. Test groups of people outside of North America tend to be of a homogenous genetic background. Researchers in Finland are going to get different results than researchers in Japan about how much vodka can be consumed before the test subjects pass out.

FTA: "Beer does less damage than wine according to a study in Alcohol and Alcoholism.

Perhaps I've had too much morning ale. Beer causes less damage yet causes a 10% shrinkage?

I remember reading that soy, especially tofu, contributes to the development of Alzheimers later in life. I wonder if this is related to that..
Supposedly the cure was plain ol' walking. Just go for a walk. Grows your brain back out.
