He was suppose to challenge McCain to a duel. That's what real leaders do. Eh, subby?

FAIL.

What did you want him to do? Punch McCain in the face?

Andrew Jackson would agree with that.

That would be nice. Although of course it doesn't really matter what he does. If he does nothing he'll be accused of backing away, scared, timid etc, and if he responds diplomatically he'll be called weak, lacking iron, not fit to rule, and if he responds forcefully he'll be accused of being hot-headed, brash, rude, and then the Republicans will demand an apology. And no one will ever realise what's happening. Except you guys, coz I just told you, and you probably knew before, because it is obvious, but I mean the retards who still plan to vote Republican won't know what's going on.

I can see the game being played...I don't know if it will work, but I can see it. This seems to me (any Farkers in the media business - I'd love to hear your take on it) like a sort of below the radar "playing the refs." McCain is shouting OMG!! YOU GUIZE ARE ALL SEXIST AND SUCH!! Obama's going after a more "Seriously, guys, WTF? Don't you have any professional pride?"

It may be a suck tactic, and it may not work, but writing it off as stupid is a bit premature. If the election were next week, and the Obama camp was doing this, it would have "FAIL" all over it, but at this point, why not try to influence the game without shouting and whining a la McCain/Palin?

Born2late [TotalFark] 2008-09-13 07:23:02 PM
Looks like he's doing the press's job for them. Even gives citations. They should eat this up.

Not a bad tactic at all.

If I were Obama I would make a campaign video showing first McCain saying he's never flip-flopped on issues (I believe that was recent), then putting in a bunch of video of his speeches from previous years and then new footage of him in his new positions. No voice-over really needed... McCain actually speaking would be perfect.

i hope he's not referring to the internet ad. that was weak. they need to hit mccain squarely on his lack of judgement and his inability to tell the truth.

the whole, "lolz! he's old and can't use the intertubes!" thing is lame.

bulldg4life [TotalFark] 2008-09-13 07:36:27 PM
He's going to be denounced for whichever choice he made.

He picked a Washington insider VP/He picked someone who lacks experience for VP

He visited the troops during a campaign trip/He ignored wounded veterans since it wasn't a photo-op

He is being too negative and is taking part in dirty campaigning/He is acting like a wimp and not willing to stand up to McCain

What does touching yourself during the day cause?

(Oh, I forgot to add "in a public library")

Obama should really start using that "McCain would rather lose his integrity than this election" line, prefaced by recalling the various lies and bullshiat of late, at all of his appearances.

MorrisBird [TotalFark] 2008-09-13 07:56:35 PM

Public display of indecency charges, but, surely, that's beside the point.

"Oh yeah, and the gas pipeline she touts won't be usable for at least a decade, if it's completed at all."

Obama's campaign wrote that? It sounds more desperate and pathetic than bad letter to the editor.

depmode98 2008-09-13 08:11:21 PM
Obama's campaign is getting farking lethargic. He needs to start pounding them on the fact that the fiscal conservative Palin, has the highest per capita spending of earkmarks of any state, and pretty much has never told the truth in her whole life.

Sold a plane on Ebay? Not so much.

Said no to the Bridge to Nowhere? Not so much. AND kept the money! AND is in the process of requesting 73 million MORE dollars to build a new bridge to nowhere.

so long as he is assertive about it, yes. the press loves when someone does their job for them.

I'm glad Obama's campaign is trying to be a fact checker here, but many of these are strained or unreferened.

"McCain Myth: Palin Sold the State's Jet on eBay"

No, the McCain/Palin story is that she put it on eBay because she thought it was wasteful. It never fetched a good price, so it was sold outside eBay. Really, how is this an issue? She started to sell it on eBay, but it wasn't working. So she did the practical thing and sold it elsewhere. And why did Obama's team make up a myth when she never said she sold it on eBay?

If Obama's campaign is trying to be the fact checker for Palin, they need to get their own facts straight first. Because if they're settling for such loose standards, they can't get upset when loose standards are thrown right back at them.

Unlike McCain, who gets tough by hiring gunmen to pop caps in Obama supporters' asses, right? As for accusations that he's anything like Kerry... go back to fellating Karl Rove, submitter. If Kerry had called Bushco on their lies like this, he'd be running for his second term right now:

Since naming Governor Palin as their Vice Presidential nominee, the McCain campaign has distorted, distracted, and outright lied to the American people about her record in a desperate attempt to hide the fact that a McCain/Palin Administration would be nothing more than a continuation of the failed Bush policies of the last eight years.

Using facts and reason is no way to post in a Fark thread, son.

Doc Lee 2008-09-13 08:23:57 PM
If McCain had any respect for the people and the country, he would have admitted his blatant lies and graciously bowed out of the race. But, McCain would rather win the election than be honest with the people.

Sad. Even sadder are his enablers and surrogates who repeat his distortions and lies ad nauseum (quite possibly out of their own ignorance) in order to drill them into the American public.

It's a given that McCain was going to lie at every opportunity given that Republican voters don't care and the media can't be counted on to report on if what he's saying is factual. Obama has to step up and do that fact checking in a way that gets the message out effectively. I think he needs to do a combination of Reagan's "there you go again" and the 2000 narrative against Gore.

Obama is treating the American people like adults when he discusses issues and that is going to send his ass back to the senate. If he were more elitist he'd know we don't actually want or deserve responsible, mature discourse.

I almost feel bad for the guy. When I see his rallies on C-Span, especially these last two weeks, his heart just doesn't seem in it anymore. It's hard to watch.

"McCain Myth: Palin Visited Troops In Iraq
FACT: Palin Did Not Venture Further Into Iraq Than It's Border With Kuwait"

- IIRC, Obama didn't visit Iraq until after he announced his candidacy.

"McCain Myth: McCain's Appearance Drew Crowd of 23,000 to Event
FACT: Crowd-Size Estimates Provided By Campaign Aides Not Backed By Officials."

- More than once, Obama spoke at events where the people were there to see a concert.

"McCain Palin Myth: Sarah Palin Told Congress "Thanks But No Thanks" On That Bridge to Nowhere
FACT: Palin Was Before It Before She Was Against It - Kept the Money for Other Projects"

- A point she addressed in her interview with Charlie Gibson; money was used for a highway, not a bridge to a rich-people island.

"McCain Myth: Palin Cut Taxes
FACT: Palin Raised Wasilla's Sales Tax"

- Another point she addressed in her interview with Charlie Gibson; toen wanted a stadium, she said taxes would have to go up, they held a vote, town voted for the stadium & tax hike to pay for it.

"McCain Myth: Palin Sold the State's Jet on eBay
FACT: Palin Sold the Jet to Campaign Contributor at a Loss of $600,000 for the State"

- She said she put the plane on eBay, not sold the plane there. Again, this has already been addressed.

- - -

Basically, more political spinning and smearing from the campaign that declared it would take the high road.

Have fun voting, sheeple ... nothing has changed, and nothing will change. Same distractions, same rhetoric, same smoke and mirrors.
