And then they will set sail for Havana, where the sun is warm and so is the comradeship.

and didn't they just sell some military equipment to Venezuela?

I think I need to hop a ride on the next arriving TARDIS.

Yes, let's all panic over something that happens once, sometimes twice a year.

Russian SLBM launches (new window)

Surprisingly (or maybe not), a complete list of U.S. test launches is harder to find. There's plenty of pics to be Googled, but aren't usually identified by test or date.

It took Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush I and Clinton to get us through the cold war.

It took Dubya to get us back in.

I'm sold. Her small town folksy charm will surely lend her the clairvoyance to deal with such delicate matters in the future.

I was watching a russian news show the other day and they ran a story on Sarah Palin. I don't understand russian, but it was pretty clear that they were placing a lot emphasis on her saying that she would go to war with Russia.

It made me think. They probably take this very seriously.

What would President Palin do?

GIBSON: And you think it would be worth it to the United States, Georgia is worth it to the United States to go to war if Russia were to invade.

PALIN: What I think is that smaller democratic countries that are invaded by a larger power is something for us to be vigilant against. We have got to be cognizant of what the consequences are if a larger power is able to take over smaller democratic countries.

Oh crap, are you suggesting that even Russia now has the means to launch missiles, possibly even with nuclear weapons? What is this world coming to? My parents never knew the fear of an armed Russia, and I don't think we should either.

no, no, no.

Get your american history right. Saint Reagan ended the cold war single-handed. He nearly bankrupted us in the process, but it was *just* Reagan.

your being revisionist if you mention *anyone* else.

Dubya just managed to actually bankrupt us, and put is right back in it, plus a unprovoked preemptive land war in Asia, plus lots of other bad things.

EdNortonsTwin 2008-09-13 03:24:34 AM
After 8 years of Dubya I wonder if even the smartest minds in our country can get us out of the shiat storm that's brewing.

...if McCain wins and keels over (God forbid), we are going to be in even deeper shiat.

actually, it was Cheney, but that is just splitting hairs.

and yes, some of the blame rests with the current Whitehouse.

Call me an asshole if you want but I don't see the logic on what Sarah Palin said. Yes I do understand how N.A.T.O works I was in the Military for 4 years. Would you go to war for a country that most people didn't know existed pre Olympics? I know what im saying is not very nice but it's alittle different than saying Russia annexing Scandanavia or Busting through to the German border.

Im not a Hawk Lobbiest or Dove, I beleive in war when it's only the last resort. Lacing up the boots and going there is not a fantasy like most farkers and their "Call of Duty" gamer tards think it is etc.

Why do I have the distinct feeling that Russia has been hired to help Cowboy Johnny McSame and Mrs. Titty McGee win an election based on old 1980s Cold War fears?

THE COLD WAR IS OVER!
THE 1980s ARE OVER!
NEWS FLASH RUSSIA: YOUR SIDE LOST. GET OVER IT!

Something you are not hearing about over in Russia is the rise of anti-Semitism and racism in Russia. Look into it.

Actually, Dubya (and, partly, the green people) was the means. Without the oil windfall, Putin would be about as important as Eltsin was.

I don't see why a part of Georgia can't hook up with Russia - I mean, it's OK for Czechoslovakia (thanks, spell-checker) to split into two, and there is international support for Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, so why shouldn't it be OK for South -Ossetia to join Russia?

Sure, there was a skirmish but probably because Georgia didn't want to let that part go.

I agree with you. They should referendum. It's better that than a whole generation of men taking a dirt nap for a few miles of European realistate, again....

Caving in to Putin's little Stalin game... why would you want to? Why would you want to encourage that?

At least with Bush, he's out of office at the end of the year... but with Putin, he's there until he's dead (or we're all dead because the duck & cover shiat don't work).

/and here I thought Gov. Palin was the vice-presidential nominee!

Why? Did someone think they didn't have any ICBMs anymore? Or that they no longer knew how to press that big red button? Or that Putin spelled backward is Palin?

I mean, this isn't much of a shocker, except to people who really thought the Cold War was over just because the Berlin Wall came tumblin' down.
