Don't presidents have people to send e-mails and write letters for them? I can't think of the word. Pole, stick, baton. Oh, right, STAFF.

Jeezy kreezy. Is this what the campaigns have come to?

I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don't expect to be a great communicator, I don't expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need - including going to my daughter's blog first, before anything else."I use the Blackberry, but I don't e-mail, I've never felt the particular need to e-mail. I read e-mails all the time, but the communications that I have with my friends and staff are oral and done with my cell phone. I have the luxury of being in contact with them literally all the time. We now have a phone on the plane that is usable on the plane, so I just never really felt a need to do it."

--John McCain admitting his own computer illiteracy

You callin' McCain a liar, Smitty?

You know, keyboards have this magic little device attached to them called CORDS. They allow you to raise and lower the level of said device so that it is accessible to people no matter what their reach. Crazy I know, but it is the truth.

He didn't raise his arms in those pics, he lowered his shoulders. Sniffle... sniffle, talk about overcoming adversity.

thamike 2008-09-12 08:05:24 PM
This is seriously a bad ploy for the McCain campaign. Nobody wants to be forced to pity their leader. Especially if it's been foisted on them repeatedly.

ManRay [TotalFark] 2008-09-12 08:05:58 PM
I don't give a shiat if the President can type. He has people to do that for him because he has other, more important things to do.

All you Farkers can use the internet, and look how much time you waste. It might be better if the President did not have the Fark timesink available to him.

Obama can use the internet. Seems like it's helping him respond to these asinine attacks much better.

BaoRuiFe 2008-09-12 08:10:48 PM
HansensDisease: I think the pictures clearly show a man who can't raise his left hand more than a fraction above shoulder height. Try raising both yours, and compare to McCain's photos.

There may be lots of reasons to ignore the fact that he was a POW in considering him for the presidency. But to intimate he is lying about his injuries isn't the way to go.

As to the email thing: McCain freely admitted he doesn't do email but does use the blackberry. It is up to the rest of us to decide how high on the selection criteria we put this factor; the reasons he doesn't do email are, per his statement, that he prefers spoken communication. He never seems to have claimed that his injuries are the reason.

This is another non-substantive BS freakshow. McCain's computer usage can't possibly be a top criteria.

Next we'll see some wackadoodle blogster reminding us that Hitler didn't do email either.

thamike 2008-09-12 08:11:34 PM
ManRay: I don't give a shiat if the President can type.

How about tying his shoes and lifting his arms?

/personally I don't care either. I just want a president who isn't an asshole with one foot in the grave.

ManRay: I don't give a shiat if the President can type. He has people to do that for him because he has other, more important things to do.

Like reminding everyone that being a POW means he has the balls to be president? Also, being a POW means we should have endless pity for the things he doesn't feel like learning? Or that being a POW has been the best thing ever and the worst thing ever depending on who he's trying to dodge that day?

The point is that the man doesn't understand a significant tool of the modern world.

/What if the Russians ask him he if would like to play a game?
//THEN WHAT!?

ManRay: I don't give a shiat if the President can type. He has people to do that for him because he has other, more important things to do.

I don't agree. The globe story is bullshiat. There are pictures of him everywhere raising his hands.

The big question is, how is his brain? I think president elects over 65 should have to do some sort of senility tests. We are putting his finger on the button, can we make sure he's not soft in the head?

thamike 2008-09-12 08:17:21 PM
lexshine: can we make sure he's not soft in the head?

While we're at it, how about running Palin through a quick scan?

It won't cost anything. Just blow in one ear and hold your hand up next to the other.

BaoRuiFe: HansensDisease: I think the pictures clearly show a man who can't raise his left hand more than a fraction above shoulder height.

Except for the fact that they're claiming it's his right arm that's injured you mean.

Try raising both yours, and compare to McCain's photos.

I have a muscle tear in my right arm...... so no thanks you insensitive bastard. It would take me a few days to get a copy of my MRI for you, but in the meantime I can type just fine.

But to intimate he is lying about his injuries isn't the way to go.

Ummmm. I didn't say a word about him lying about anything. Reading comprehension is a good thing... you should try it.

BaoRuiFe: But to intimate he is lying about his injuries isn't the way to go.

McCain, his staff, supporters and surrogates routinely say that he cannot raise his arms above his head due to his tragic war injuries. Well, there are several photos of him doing just that, raising his arms above his head.
Where's the lie, again?

ManRay [TotalFark] 2008-09-12 08:37:11 PM
Being Famous Sucks: The point is that the man doesn't understand a significant tool of the modern world.

Bush I and Clinton both had trouble adjusting to real life when they got out of office. When you are the President there are a whole lot of things you don't have to worry about and where the send/receive button is on Outlook is one of them.

If this is the kind of thing Obama has in his arsenal, he better start digging deeper. It's not going to fly with the older voters he needs to break the deadlock.

thamike 2008-09-12 08:39:04 PM

I have a problem when a possible President of the United States has no desire to learn about the internet. He is seemingly not interested.

One of the single most important inventions in the history of the world, and he just doesn't really seem to be bothered to learn how to use it.

If he looked you square in the face and told you that he doesn't use the phone because writing letters works just fine or he rode around on a horse because cars are too much trouble to use...you'd laugh in his face.

Satan_Sunburn 2008-09-12 08:45:56 PM
"It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief knows how to send an e-mail ...but not how to do a five-minute Google search." Or even how to hire someone who can . . . .

McCain has voice driven tools when he chooses to use them. It just amazes me that there are so many morons that see this as a impediment. In actuality the tools of technology have removed people from what John McCain is really best at. Talking face to face with people and really communicating well.

I have to guess that a Senator from a family worth a bazillion dollars and with countless homes must certainly have the resources to provide McCain with a desk and chair that allows him to sit at a keyboard.

HansensDisease [TotalFark] 2008-09-12 08:47:31 PM
I've heard various descriptions of McCain's limitations. Two that are absolutely debunked are that he "can't raise his arms above his waist" and he "can't raise his arms above his shoulders".

nymag.com

So STFU about those plz thx.

As far as the injuries occurring because "he was tortured", other accounts say that they happened during his ejection from the plane. This is supposedly McCain's own account of the incident^:

It was then that I was hit. I wanted to eject but while doing so I broke both arms and my right thigh. Unconscious, I fell in a lake. Some Vietnamese jumped in the water and pulled me out. Later I learned there must have been about 12 of them. They immediately took me to a hospital, in condition two inches away from death. A doctor operated on my thigh. Others at the same time dealt with my arms.

You make up your own mind about that one.

MorrisBird [TotalFark] 2008-09-12 08:48:29 PM
POW! The keyboard has made communication and, frankly, life, possible for my tetraplegic clients. Cry me a river, John. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

McCain has never been comfortable as a war hero, honored and greeted with adulation,

War hero? He got the Silver Star because of the ordeal he went through as a POW. It's not as if he had to watch his men get bayoneted face down in the mud for two years, and now wakes up screaming and blaming himself because he could only save three of them by carrying them on his back through 40 miles of perilous jungle. The guy's got 20 hours of combat flight experience. He barely lit anyone up before he got tagged out. If I was him, I'd put a lid on the POW talk for awhile. All it's doing is giving people POW fatigue and inviting more scrutiny. The more inundated people are with one thing, the more comfortable they are talking about it, and the more easy it is for them to publicly scrutinize it.

I weep for my country. We're going to be third world within 50 years at this rate, probably speaking some form of Russian dialect. The average idiot American citizen is more concerned about McCain's ability (or lack thereof) to type on a keyboard, and no one seems to care that Sarah Palin said yesterday that she has no problem starting WWIII with Russia.
