I think the article has changed a bit since yesterday.

The author just released a tape of John saying he had wanted to do his mum.

It's not that surprising when you know that he didn't really have a mother-and-son relationship with her. Aunt Mimi played that role, while Julia was his friend down the street. She was young, attractive, and vivacious, and had a wild streak in her. The family had deemed her too immature to raise John. His friends had the hots for her, and he apparently did, too.
