I read the excerpts there and it seem like Gibson is trying to say to her, "what the hell is wrong with you, don't you see how you've been lying!?!"
He seems almost incredulous.

Has anyone made the comparison between this twit and Reese Witherspoon's character in Election?

I have not been around, so I don't know -- but it is just uncanny.... even the lip pursing.

But he didn't pin her down on it. He just gave up and moved on. If she had been on Meet the Press she would have been forced to admit she was distorting her record, or she would have looked like a complete ass. No wonder her next "interview" is with Sean Hannity. What's next, Bill O'Reily?

I do think that that wave has crested. When the gals on the View are calling McCain out on this stuff, I have to believe that the rest of the media (talk radio, Fox News and the Washington Times aside) will finally start actually pointing out that McCain is lying his ass off instead of just saying that the "Obama camp challenges the accuracy of that statement."

Honesty is highly overrated.
The truth is nothing more than what people are willing to believe is true.

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2008-09-12 05:16:37 PM
GIBSON: Governor, this year, requested $3.2 million for researching the genetics of harbor seals, money to study the mating habits of crabs. Isn't that exactly the kind of thing that John McCain is objecting to?

PALIN: Those requests, through our research divisions and fish and game and our wildlife departments and our universities, those research requests did come through that system, but wanting it to be in the light of day, not behind closed doors, with lobbyists making deals with Congress to stick things in there under the public radar. That's the abuse that we're going to stop.

Jesus. She has a mind to nowhere. Basically, she's saying it's OK to get earmarks for ridiculous things as long as you aren't trying to hide it.

She and McCain are running on two different platforms.

If she does win this, and even worse becomes President after McCain gets overly excited and keels over, it will be a HUGE setback for women. It will reinforce the idea that being smart, determined, and strong willed doesn't get you ahead in life. Being a beauty pageant contestant and a twit, however, will get you everywhere in life so long as you can pull off cute and charming.

Yeah... the newness has worn off, the convention bump is sinking back, and the media is becoming increasingly critical of the McCain campaign. We will know for sure in about a week if McCain is losing ground and if the momentum is shifting.

Skleenar 2008-09-12 05:28:48 PM
PALIN: I was for infrastructure being built in the state. And it's not inappropriate for a mayor or for a governor to request and to work with their Congress and their congressmen, their congresswomen, to plug into the federal budget along with every other state a share of the federal budget for infrastructure.

Here, Palin is absolutely correct. No question. There is no reason whatsoever that a governor or mayor should not try to get Federal dollars. In fact, you could make a strong argument that if they don't they aren't serving their constituents.

Wait....

Did I just support Sarah Palin when I wasn't in troll-mode? What is going on? Am I forgetting something?

Oh yeah, that's right. SHE'S CAMPAIGNING AS A PORK BUSTER.

This just proves how incredibly flexible a government official she is.

nothing left to do but watch as the cards come falling down. when i saw her speech at the RNC, my jaw was on the floor the entire time. everything that she said that was substantive and relevant to governance was a lie or an exaggeration. it was only a matter of time before the media caught up. if she wasn't cute, she would've been in a VH1 reality show by now.

in fact, i wouldn't be surprised to see the palin family on a reality show in like.. 5-7 years.

He doesn't have to lie. He just has to point out how blatantly McCain is lying. Kerry failed to do this, Gore failed to do this, and so far Obama is starting to understand that he has to do this. I hope he keeps it up

Exactly. She is solidly a republican. He is solidly a moderate democrat. He would love to shut her up, but he needs her to win his base over. He needs her to win the Hillary Clinton vote. Once he is elected and is inaugurated, he'll shelve her. The republicans, at that point, will start to question the presidency regarding their stances on things. McCain will not be a republican president. The party that has helped him get this far is going to get hung out to dry after he takes office. And a potential rising star of that party will be left to rot in the VP office.

I sometimes have a hard time listening to americans giving their opinions on things they know little about. But I would never consider suggesting that they don't vote. They are americans- even if they put party before country.

god i farking hope so. i really do. of course, there's still the tinfoil hope bouncing around in my head that McCain will hold a press conference just before the debates screaming at his supporters for buying into the stupid shiat he's been spewing, screaming at the media for not having the balls to call him out(outside The View of course), and the Republican machine in general for parroting every dumbass contradiction his campaign threw at them, followed by a resolute "fark you, my friends" and handing the reigns over to Caribou Barbie with NO time to put anything together.

/not gonna happen, but i can farking dream can't i?

Tanishh 2008-09-12 06:44:58 PM
Two things.

First, I had heard the word 'maverick' maybe all of twice before McCain became the big favorite to win the GOP nomination. In the past couple months I've heard it probably a hundred times, and every time a Republican surrogate or sycophant says that "John McCain is a maverick" I want to stab them in the throat. That word has permanently been ruined for me.

Second, I love how Palin's reasoning against Obama not voting to cut taxes 91 times or whatever it was is that it's 'not what the majority of Americans want'. Well, no shiat the majority of Americans want lower taxes. Why on Earth would people want to have more of their money taken by the government? This is like saying that John McCain's support of waterboarding is the opposite of what detainees want.

That said, just because people want to live in a fantasy land where they pay no taxes yet still have a badass military to defend them, a great highway system, garbage collection, mail delivery, etc. doesn't mean that they can. Even though the modern Republican party wants the US to continue to live in a fantasy world of low taxes and high spending thanks to China and co's loans, eventually people will have to face reality and start paying more if they want to spend more, or pay just as much/more than they do now and spend less to get rid of some of that huge debt.
