I'd like to point out that this poll is usually a lot more accurate than the outside polls of the state.

It's correctly predicted the winner of presidential and state elections for 34 years straight.

I'd also like to point out that the details of the polling are very, very interesting: Link (new window):

Mainly, the fact that 93% of blacks are voting for Obama as opposed to 1% for McCain, as well as the voting by education... the more educated, the more likely to vote McCain...

Because if you're educated and still living in Ohio, you're an insurance exec.

that's typical, though, in all states. the Ds have a mortal lock on the black vote.

McCain has for the first time that I have seen taken the lead at Link (new window). Still too early and still too close for any of this to count other than the good discussion it provides

Including graduate degrees? In 2004 Kerry won high school dropouts and people with graduate/doctoral degrees.

Agreed. Click "This day in 2004" for a good example of "too early and too close".

It didn't break it down that far. Anyone with a college degree of any type was more likely to vote McCain. In fact, so too were high school degrees and some college. The only catagory Obama was winning in was high school dropouts, and it's by a huge margin. (insert joke here about mom's basement/Farkers).

Of course it's way to early for this to matter, I'd like to point out that this IS the poll to follow if it comes down to Ohio again.

Considering the usual post-convention "bounce" and the fact that McCain's been running ads in Ohio (ads which may wind up backfiring on him long-term) falsely implying that Obama wants to teach kindergarteners what a Cleveland Steamer is before before they even learn how to read, I would have to think that the McCain campaign might view a 4 point lead in Ohio at this point as not a very good sign for them at all.

voting is personal to the individual, and in most cases based on many, many aspects and beliefs.

They same - I might add - can be said for the religious right.

From TFA: "However, nearly a quarter of Ohio's likely voters have not yet made a definite choice, according to the latest Ohio Poll, conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati."

All this is useless until the debates.

This quote alone is enough to keep me from voting McCain:

At the very least, the process reflects McCain's history of making
fast, instinctive and sometimes risky decisions. "I make them as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can," McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, "Worth the Fighting For." "Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."

From here:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/31/america/31reconstruct.php

McCain may be willing to live with the consequences of his mistakes, but I'm not. The Palin VP selection being just one example.

What's even more fascinating is that I also hear it's supposed to be 4 degrees warmer here tomorrow than it is today.
At this rate, it's going to be, like, a gazillion degrees come November!

portscanner 2008-09-12 01:04:07 PM
Lets see now - 93% of the African Americans are voting for Obama. But only 39% of the whites are voting for Obama.

There! Proof that the whites are racists! If they were not racist, would not the percentage of whites voting for Obama be far closer to 90%.

The US is going to continue to be a big stink hole until the white people get rid of their bigotry.

So, just to clarify the talking points:

Obama has a few points lead = 'But he's not leading by a HUGE margin!'

McCain has a few points lead = 'Good morning President McCain.'

Is that it?

Those numbers are par for the course. The only people who think blacks don't vote dem 90+% of the time are people who don't know history. Also the white number look par for the dems as well.

Wow, and you Republicans wonder why blacks don't vote for you.

I am a total Obama supporter, but I have to admit, Palin changes things. It redraws the map to the 2004 map. She brings up the culture wars.

If this election is about values and not issues. McCain will win.

If this election is about issues and not values. Obama will win.

I think right now, a state like Ohio is saying, "You know I don't care about the economy or the war, etc. I think Palin is like me, so I am going to vote for McCain."

I suspect that this is linked to Obama's near-unanimous support among blacks. For a variety of socioeconomic reasons, African-Americans tend to be less educated. So those are probably linked statistics.

States that vote that way get what they deserve. Unfortunately, they are dragging everyone else down with them.
