Thank God. For a second, I thought he was going to appear on Emeril Live.

I hope not. I remember reading somewhere that politicians who appear on cooking shows have to step down afterwards.

This could be the one misstep that costs Obama the election.

If you get down in the mud to wrestle with the pigs, you don't wind up looking any cleaner. And some of that lipstick is going to rub off on embarrassing places.

/Is anyone going to talk about ISSUES, or are we more interested in having campaigns run like they're daytime TV? Can Jerry Springer emerge victorious over Dr. Phil?

Barring a major flub by McCain or Palin, or simply horrible debate performances by one or both of them, McCain could well get to 300 EV's and the D's could actually lose Senate and Congressional seats.

Cinaed 2008-09-12 07:35:58 AM
I think by kicking it up a notch...

He gonna be gettin some good Creole cuisine to the campaign staff.

That, and going after McCain with a decidedly harsh tone and biting narrative since the old man went and took the gloves off.

I love how "(Muslim)" is wedged in there. It really emphasizes the whole "if you're a bigot then this will appeal to you" quality of the image.

I've tried, but I can't see how a rational person could find anything wrong with the quote in that pic. Are you saying that black men can't emulate and take pride in the black leaders that came before them, because it makes them racist? Am I racist for having pride in my white ancestors, or in the founding fathers?

Your post is all kinds of crazy.

Losing seats does not equate to losing their majority. You wasted a bunch of a's and h's.

We can argue about this stuff from now to 11/4 (and probably will), but I have long believed that lots of people were more excited about the idea of Obama than the actuality of Obama. I usually try to be somewhat objective when I write about election stuff - mainly because I hate being wrong. The thing that gets lost in these threads is that something like 40% of the electorate is just not very partisan. That's where this election will be decided and I think that Obama had to bury McCain early - and precisely the opposite has happened. Once undecided's start to move, they almost always go in the same direction.

Desperate spin from desperate housewives. Palin is now a liability to the ticket where she was once seen as a strength thanks to her recent interview with Charles Gibson.

The economy will rule this election cycle, and right now the Republicans are on the hook for it.

People vote their pocketbooks. The Republicans ruled Washington for the better part of 8 years and nothing good came of it, bottom line.

Looking at polls and the trends, Dems could increase their seats in the house by as much as thirty, and 4-5 in the senate. I think it is clear there will be a strong democratic majority, and hopefully override Old Man Rivers when we wants to give tax cuts to those who have Hoverounds.

And I'm sure you said the exact same thing about McCain after he promised a clean campaign and then went negative as well, right? I mean, you wouldn't be excusing one candidate and criticize another candidate simply because of bias, correct?

Obama: I'm not going to go negative in this campaign.

Righties: Ohhh l00k at the loony lib, too weak to fight back! This is why libs can't be trusted with national security...they don't wanna fight! Why do you keep hitting yourself libby? Why won't you man up and get ready to rumble?!

Obama: I'll try to stay positive, but I'm going to sharpen my criticisms against my oponent, since he obviously has no interest in talking about issues or rising above the distraction of convient outrage.

Righties: whhhhhaaaaaaa! Obama is fighting back? Is that really change we can believe in? Why is Obama using dirty trick?

Meanwhile...

What you guys never seem to quite comprehend is that you can't be objective about her. She could have come across as the second coming of George F. Kennan and you guys would trash her. It doesn't matter what committed partisans think of her.

I never bet on anything over which I have no control. I think the 300 EV's is much more likely than losing seats - but things could easily go very bad across the spectrum.

Why in the world would you think the McCain folks would be feeling desperate?

Can we all agree it's time for Biden to drop out and bring Hillary in?

To respond to the headline without RTFA:

I really hope Obama ramps up the energy of his campaign. A month ago I was sure he was no Kerry. But now it's looking like he's trying to take the calm road.

Granted, it may be the best move until the VP debate. The McCain camp is making Palin their centerpiece and she clearly will get destroyed by Biden.

The GOP argument that being disrespectful and mean to her is unfair can be taken away by reminding people that these are the big leagues and that's how the game is played.

/I have no idea how dumb the people are

idov 2008-09-12 08:18:14 AM
McCain is now leading on RCP in the national polls, approval rating, and intrade. The electoral college coming in piecemeal is always behind, but once he gets a flip in New Mexico or Colorado, it's game over. He's right on Obama's tail in Michigan and Pennsylvania and if he gets one of those, it's a rout. Obama got his bounces after he addressed 200,000 adoring Germans nostalgic for the 1930s and his Temple of Zeus apotheosis speech, but they quickly vanished. McCain is sucking away his lead among white women and they're going with Palin and not coming back. Obama's got no arrows left in his quivver. But anything can happen of course, like replacing Biden with Hillary.

You seem concerned...

But regardless, the mere fact that the Right Wing Media Machine was dead silent or even pro-Hillary is not a sign that she appeals to them. It is the sign that they had so much dirt on them, they were going to have an orgasm busting her up if she was on the ticket. She would have been utterly destroyed by the right.

Meh, there's no point in pointing fingers, too many people let the Democratic primaries bleed into the General election and mix up who attacked whom.

So far from the new ad's I've seen, McCain put out one directed at women, and hopefully the last of his "whiny" ads. Obama's new "Sharpness" came accross as him just emphasizing the word "Change" more (with an underlined 'true' in the graphic). I'm a McCain supporter so take this for what it's worth. I liked the fact that Obama threw some broadbrush issue statements in there, but at the end, he sounded like an angry teen who's favorite slogan had been nabbed.

Plouffe's e-mail imho was pretty laughable; in fact anyone trying to imply that the Media is favoring McCain has no credability; and the majority of the country agree's with me. At least he admits he's going to send out surrogates to attack McCain; but meanwhile he's got some loose cannons on the side lines that keep shooting thier mouth off.
Old Bag (new window)

When you've got harpies like this claiming Palin's biggest hypocricy is her pretense at being a woman, you're going to be caught in the splash damage. (Just look at the comments)

Obama's biggest problem is his supporters imho - his second biggest problem is himself; It'll be interesting to see how he comes out the next couple of days. Palin's interview should be slightly overshadowed by Ike, but both will dominate the news cycle this weekend. (sigh) Some rest? :P

Mr Logo 2008-09-12 08:25:41 AM
GoldSpider: So what happened to the positive campaign and no negative ads? Change we can believe in, right?

As I see it. For a long time, Obama ran a non-negative campaign while McCain ran an attack campaign. (iirc McCain also made some commitment to running a clean campaign.)

There came a time when Obama was entitled to act in self defence.
