Dear Mike, please take your medication. Thanks.

Just because Obama doesn't act like you THINK all black people do, does not mean he isn't actually black Mike.

Guy Innagorillasuit [TotalFark] 2008-09-11 11:56:09 PM
I'm no expert on race, but unless Clinton's carrying a shiatload of recessive black genes, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Mr. Wallace.

Sgygus [TotalFark] 2008-09-11 11:58:20 PM
Obama has led a rather unique life. He is outside of simple labels.

This is one of the much more valid quotes in the article: "I'm not a fan of the blacks," explained Dennis Rodriguez, 48, a restaurant manager from Manistique, Mich., "but I just think Obama is the right man for the job.

However, if you read page 2, you'll also see that in die-hard traditionals that feel exactly the opposite. And, the author brings up an interesting point- cities and states that don't breed a lot of intellectuals were (anecdotally) more likely to embrace Obama as an elitist and intellectual.

From Page 2: Gary Ball, a former coal miner and editor of the firebrand Mountain Citizen newspaper that is published in Inez, points to an authenticity gap for Obama. "People around here see Obama as being privileged," he said. Never mind McCain -- with his seven houses -- or recent blue blood candidates George W. Bush, John Kerry and Al Gore. "We know Obama's plenty book-smart ... but I liked Harry Truman, the last president to have a simple high school education."

Statements like this ring home the point that our public education system has failed. Not only do we have entire portions of the country that view college as pointless, but they don't even have the reasoning to think that education beyond their own might bring about a more reasoned government than they could produce.

Truman went to Missouri-KC for law school, but that's beside the point I suppose

FTA:

In the quaint and tidy town of Yellville, Ark., Cassie Gilley, 48, a soft-spoken school administrator, explained her view of white, rural America's evolving relationship to race.

Just wanted to mention that I like that there's a soft-spoken woman living in the town of YELLVILLE, ARKANSAS!

Unfarkingbelievable. Take away Obama's education, his connections and his abilities, dress him in a white t and baggy shorts and drop him off in Brookline, Ma and I guarantee you Mike will find him to be plenty farking black.

This is some seriously stupid shiat.

He never got the degree, though.

In all fairness, Bush Jr. was probably too drunk during college for it to actually count.

We're really sorry you got beat up last week outside of a Castro nightclub by a bunch of dudes wearing chaps and rainbow-colored Obama t-shirts, but really you need to just stop with the generalizations. It's so unbecoming for a conservative he-man like yourself.

Crockett 2008-09-12 01:08:44 AM
So, just to be clear: We're spending $10 billion a month in Iraq and Afghanistan, our education system is in desperate need of repair, we have a crippling dependency on oil, the climate is changing, our economy is tanking, our debt is skyrocketing, our government (notably the Justice Department) is struggling to recover from eight years of mismanagement, the Bill of Rights has been eroded, our international respect has crumbled...

And the election is going to come down to whether people in Dumbfark, Ohio feel like they can "connect" with Obama's life story.

There's really only one thing to say...

The article brings up something interesting that I've been suspecting would happen. People aren't going to vote. They don't like McCain, but sure as hell aren't voting for a black guy named Obama.

You can't reason with people like that either. I recently had someone tell me that more troops were killed every year under Clinton than under Bushiatried to be polite, we looked it up online, but the person still didn't believe me.

Yea that was my favorite line in the article. I love them country folk, was born in a barn meself; but DAAAMMMNNN That was just uninformed and damned funny.

Cut Mike some slack, the Dem's did call Bill Clinton "The First Black President"

And Obama supporters can take heart; I understand Obama's campaign has switched to the slogan "But he's also half white" in some states.

/Obama, the first Black President; except when he's white ;)

I didn't know your religious beliefs depended on what redneck hicks perceived them to be. Wow, I learned something today.

Look, I'm voting for Obama, but the main theme of that essay was: "When Obama loses, we at Salon are going to claim the only reason was racism, and ignore all sorts of valid reasons why people may have been upset with Obama's experience, or how he ran his campaign."

In the meantime, yeah, I'm voting for Obama, and I think McCain/Palin is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Traitors, libtards(or has that gone away for some reason this season?)... Something more interesting than homos, that's so middle school.

RoyBatty: ignore all sorts of valid reasons why people may have been upset with Obama's experience, or how he ran his campaign."

What are they? Specifically regarding how he ran his campaign.

What do you honestly think is more likely, that Americans focused on his experience (considering some of the relatively inexperienced politicians that have been elected in recent decades), his campaign, or something else?
Really, I think it's a generational thing... the sad part is that the generations that are more likely to vote are the ones that are more likely to be that "something else."
