If I were Charlie Gibson, and it had become apparent to me that she didn't know what the hell I was talking about, it would take all the professional fortitude I could muster to not jerk her around for a while to see where she went with it:

"You know Sarah, the Bush Doctrine. You know, the thing...about the satellite on the MOON?.... and communicating with the WHALES?...and the RAPTURE?... What's your take on the whole thing?"

Bwahahahahahahahah!

Even when he gave her the definition she still didn't answer the question correctly: of course we have a right to defend ourselves when a threat is imminent. It's when- in Iraq for instance- the threat is not imminent and may take years and years to develop (if it even does at all) that the bush doctrine even matters.

Is it my imagination, or is she just the living embodiment of everything that is wrong with America?

cameroncrazy1984: Man, even with Charlie lobbing softballs she still fails? That's hilarious.

As far as I can tell, these aren't exactly softballs. Maybe he is letting her get away with a few things, but he is asking her some tough questions and making sure her answer is quite clear.

On another note, they did quite the cut and dub job on this one. They go to a long camera with the two of them sitting while he is asking questions, then a short camera only to Palin's face and the acoustics really change. I know a lot of interviews are done like that, and not sure what that implies, but anyone notice that?

Enh, she doesn't appear to be morbidly obese, and I've yet to see any evidence of completely irresponsible personal spending on needless materialism, so not everything.

But, I've been led to believe that she can field dress a moose. And, really in terms of what a VP would do, what's more likely, dealing with foreign policy, or having to field dress a moose?

Plus, she's got purdy lips.

No doubt that charles gibson, everlasting tool of the secular left, used his intellectual elitism to ask horribly complex questions of america's favorite hockey mom / cosmetically enhanced canine.

Well I would think Cheney proved to us that field dressing an attorney would prove invaluable vs. his foreign policy decisions. I'm going with field dressing a moose for Palin.....

/As an aside, I recorded the interview to watch it since my kids wanted to play outside. I'm almost afraid to watch it.

I'm still waiting for the day where O'Reilly goes "fark me, I just can't deal with this shiat anymore. You people are on your own". On air, and for bonus points, he walks off set.

There was no reason to believe this was going to be a linear presentation. Two days? That's so that ABC editors, and the McCain campaign itself, can decide what to air and what not to air.

Hell, O'Reilly's four-part Obama interview took only about 45 minutes, but then again Obama's actually intellectually prepared to be President.

Somehow, if McCain wins, I see Olbermann doing just that on Nov. 5th.

Okay, I really had tried to keep my opinion fairly neutral about her, but I'm convinced absolutely that she's a dumb twat with a trigger finger. McCain may not be Bush II, but she's the stupid version of Cheney II.

If McCain and her are elected, God help us all.

There's a tiny part of me that wishes that would happen. But the idea of McCain as President (or worse, Palin replacing him) fills me with a sense of dread. It's just not worth it.

You cannot call her dumb. If you call her dumb, then you are calling all women dumb. If the press does not start asking Mrs. Palin questions she feels comfortable answering, then the media is sexist/elitist/gay/uppity/black and has sex with white women.

Also to add insult to injury with her, I can tell by her body language that she's out to prove something, which makes her dangerous. I just hope that McCain keeps her reeled in.

Quel: As far as I can tell, these aren't exactly softballs. Maybe he is letting her get away with a few things, but he is asking her some tough questions and making sure her answer is quite clear.

Though it might seem to send a message of warning to terrorists and terror-sponsoring states, I think the current need, a need that is known on both sides of the aise, to get out of the entanglement in Iraq sends a more specific message that America isn't ready to implement the "Bush doctrine" ever again. The threat -- like the one that currently exists along the Pakistani/Afghani border for instance -- must be more real and immediate than the Bush doctrine provides for or else America's moral position is lost, both through the violence of occupation and through a lack of clarity of the mission, both of which we've seen in Iraq.

At the same time, I think the way Bush set out his statements alienated and created alarm in America's traditional allies who themselves want no part in expensive nation-building quagmires. I think it's safe to say that the Bush Doctrine is at least partially responsible for America's NATO allies' reluctance to join more actively in the fight against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

(that's probably not how Ms Palin would have answered the question if she DID know what the Bush Doctrine was, but that's all just from reading the newspapers and having a memory that goes back more than 6 months. Was that so hard? How come a schnook like me can come up with a response to that and the possible VP of the USofA can't!? How does that not scare any McCain/Palin supporters?)

Responding to whether or not she'd even met a foreign leader:

PALIN: "I have not and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you. But, Charlie, again, we've got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time. It is for no more politics as usual and somebody's big, fat resume maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment, where, yes, they've had opportunities to meet heads of state ... these last couple of weeks ... it has been overwhelming to me that confirmation of the message that Americans are getting sick and tired of that self-dealing and kind of that closed door, good old boy network that has been the Washington elite."

Over the course of 2'30", she said three separate times "The terrorists want to destroy America."

Can someone PLEASE explain to me how terrorists can destroy America? What does she mean by "destroy"? Does she honestly think America can be completely annihilated, or is she using her own form of political terrorism? Why doesn't any reporter call anyone out when someone says something so hyperbolic? Even in a "Jericho" situation I think we would do better than they did.
