Drugs and/or booze & most rock bands in history strangely absent from the list.

Glad to see Steely Dan got some respect. Nanker/Phelge, however, don't belong on a list of "greatest" songwriters if nobody knows any of their songs... I mean really, the Stones when they were a jammin blues band? Pretentious.

You do realize it said "songwriting partnerships" right? Simon and Garfunkel don't count. Jagger/Richards sure does though.

nice to see Lennon/McCartney

I know this won't be a popular pick, but I would have liked to see Lee/Lifeson.
And maybe Cantrell/Staley.

I don't get the fascination with Becker/Fagen either. They are critics darlings, and no doubt they are talented musicians and producers. But one of the greatest songwriting teams of all time?

Elton John and Bernie Taupin would like a word with you...

IMHO, the Elton John albums from "Tumbleweed" to "captain fantastic" 1971-75 are probably one of the greatest album streaks EVER. [quality wise, song-writing wise] [in five years, no less!]

[except maybe for "Caribou" ... that one is probably the worst of that era]

bigbadideasinaction 2008-09-11 03:02:52 PM
puckrock2000: Mould/Hart?

I wouldn't say they wrote with each other as much as they wrote at each other.
