Ha! I didn't know I lived so close to Eric Carmen. He's practically a neighbor.

You learn something new everyday.

Sweet caroline is a better choice.

If you ever want to hear something that will make you want to poke out your own eardrums, check out Celine Dion's version of "All By Myself."

The only redeeming quality is knowing that Eric Carmen should be making a buttload of royalties off of that.

Sounds like the alcohol made him lose control. His eyes were too hungry for another round.

/ Those are the only two songs of his I know.

In 1972, The Raspberries got together in Cleveland in 1972 and had a Top 5 hit with "Go All the Way."

Do news organizations use writers anymore?

The '60s group got together twice in 1972. What more do you want to know?

Hmmm...should I go with a "Thirsty Eyes" joke, or a "Bloodshot Eyes" joke?

i dunno-do you mean you never heard the original Raspberries song "Go all the Way"
or are you just playing?

Ed Grubermann [TotalFark] 2008-09-10 02:24:42 PM
Thanks, subby. I had managed to forget that horrible song. Now it's going to be bouncing around in my head all day.

This is a song I've been singing for a number of years. I find it grows truer and truer as time goes by.

The Raspberries were probably the best power pop band ever... huge hooks, great harmonies, brilliant guitar parts that sound much simpler than they really are... I love that band.

As noted above, his solo work is not quite at the same standard.

I saw them in Cleveland last November it was pretty damn awesome. It was the original lineup with a few excellent support players that sounded as good as anything I've heard. They did all their great stuff, a couple of Carmen's solo tunes, and an awesome version of the Who's "Substitute". Very, very good show if you're a Raspberries/powerpop fan.

Me and my wife stayed at the hotel right up the street from the venue and a lot of the band showed up at the lounge. We met Eric Carmen at the elevators and got to shake his hand and he couldn't have been any nicer to us - very, very nice and classy guy.

This is too bad - I hope he gets whatever he needs to get this behind him so he doesn't hurt himself or others around him.

And Eric - if you're watching - stick with weed. And if you get really, really stoned, grab a guitar, crank that Vox AC up, and write something that rocks like a motherfarker. I'll buy it - I don't care what it is.

no, not the writer so much -- the editor didn't catch the redundancy.

I think Eric Carmen is very hittable/doable. I'd like him to have a stab at me when hes' sober. hard. hot. heavy.

I came for the Cartman references, and I'm leaving happy.

I thought the headline said Eric Cartman, so the article was a real disappointment . This thread, however, is not.

The Raspberries? I thought that Eric was the lead singer of Faith + 1.

I almost hate to admit it, but I had that record.

I'm a Raspberries fan, just read it again, slower this time. Focus on the dates in bold. (60's band that starts in 72?)

1st time DUI. Could be a mistake. Go easy on them.
2nd time DUI. Problem and throw the book at the farker.
3rd time DUI. Hang them.

Here's a clip (new window) when he was a little more sober.

This is how a 4 piece band with great vocals all around and some seriously good tone get it done. While Carmen is one of the best ever (why aren't these guys in the hall? WTF?), Wally Bryson is one of the most underrated guitarists/sidemen ever.

Meh - piker. Hubby got busted with a 0.35 ten years ago (and yes, has since reformed) and was still vertical; probably wouldn't have been taken in but for that pesky residual speech impediment.

I was also alone when I got my second DUI so I am really getting a kick out of these replies. But think about how much I have saved on gas. Yeah....
