They can crank out several albums by covering the Disney Songbook. I'd love to hear Zeppity Do-Da.

I'm glad they ain't touring. I respect Zep because they called it quits while they were still somewhat ahead unlike *ah-Metallica-em* some bands that *cou-Kiss-gh* just never give up way past their prime.

As to the Willie Dixon comment:

Just to stoke the inevitable flames how many songs did led zeppelin ultimately admit to copying from mr dixon? How many more songs and albums have they recorded?

Subby, you don't give a shiat about Willie Dixon and you have probably never listened to his music, or even own his LPs.

You are just like a nasty farking treason supporting GOPer whining about Ted Kennedy and chappaquiddick, meanwhile you are only 28 years old.
Farking retard.

Nice try, but I have many Willie Dixon records, and many original Chess 45s which I do not play anymore. I also am currently studying his style on my upright. So, fail.

JerkyMeat: You are just like a nasty farking treason supporting GOPer whining about Ted Kennedy and chappaquiddick, meanwhile you are only 28 years old.

I'm a liberal, ambivalent about the Kennedys, and I am turning 45 on Sunday.

So fail again.

OK, you may have me there.

Also from a torrent:

good at stealing quality songs and ideas? Being a studio musician for several years before he formed Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page had a talented knack for taking what was not his without giving proper credit. Some of these songs (Including Killing Floor and How Many More Years) actually resulted in lawsuits that ruled AGAINST Led Zeppelin. Most of these songs have not been available in one place until now. So, here they are, the best of the best. When you finish listening to this, you will never take Led Zeppelin's word for it again.

Track Listing

1. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Joan Baez
2. You Shook Me - Muddy Waters
3. Dazed And Confused - New Yardbirds
4. Black Waterside - Bert Jansch
5. I Can't Quit You Baby ? Little Milton
6. How Many More Years ? Howlin? Wolf
7. The Hunter ? Albert King
8. You Need Love ? Muddy Waters
9. Killing Floor ? Howlin? Wolf
10. The Girl I Love She Got Long Curly Hair ? Sleepy John Estes
11. Bring It On Home ? Sonny Boy Williamson
12. Shake 'Em On Down ? Bukka White
13. Taurus - Spirit
14. In My Time Of Dying ? Blind Willie Johnson
15. She Moves Through The Fair ? Hayley Westenra
16. Nobody?s Fault But Mine ? John Renbourne
17. Traveling Riverside Blues ? Robert Johnson
18. She Moved Through The Bizarre ? Davey Graham

Please note I am aware LZ did not claim authorship on all these tunes. Just a bunch of them.

Good artists borrow. Great artists steal.

The entire genre of music called 'rock and roll' was stolen. A lot of blues songs don't have authors, people take a basic song and add to it, which is what LZ did.

I mean really, if we were keeping track, Lead Belly wrote everything, we should just credit him on every song.

Why dont you pull the rod out of your ass and enjoy average songs made better with loud guitar, a great lead singer, and the best rock n roll drummer of all time?

T.rex 2008-09-09 05:44:34 PM
i credit Led Zeppelin for making me research the blues, and find out for myself who Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, and others were.

Anyway, to say Killing Floor is the same as The Lemon Song, or that Robert Johnson's Traveling Riverside Blues is the same song as Zep's version, you'd just be simply wrong. Sure, they share a lyric or 2, though i guarantee those same lyrics existed in slave songs before the 'original' recordist layed down the track.

Is Willie Dixon more entitled to these lyrics since he's black? I don't think so.

First: I do enjoy them. Very much. And not just the best drummer, but the best rhythm section in rock history I believe.

Second: "Average" songs? Chicago blues gave us rock and roll, son, and you sound like a dipshiat there. Nothin' "average" about them.

Third: That rod up my ass is there for a reason. You leave my ass, and the things up it, alone, thank you very much.

T.rex: Anyway, to say Killing Floor is the same as The Lemon Song, or that Robert Johnson's Traveling Riverside Blues is the same song as Zep's version, you'd just be simply wrong.

You would be wrong, were it not for the fact that you would be right.

T.rex: Sure, they share a lyric or 2, though i guarantee those same lyrics existed in slave songs before the 'original' recordist layed down the track.

You guarantee? How, exactly? And why does that matter, legally speaking?

T.rex: Is Willie Dixon more entitled to these lyrics since he's black? I don't think so.

WTF does any of this have to do with his blackness?

Willie Dixon owns the copyright to those songs because he registered the copyright to those songs and was listed with ASCAP and BMI as the author of them. That's why he is more entitled to those lyrics and melody. No other reason.

Blues was plundered before led zep ever came on the scene and mississippi blues actually gave us rock n roll at least in my opinion, led zep just used it for its modern counter part. Im just sick of all that shiat about them stealing when in reality it was their ass of a manager who didnt want to pay any royalties who thought that since they were in england they were immune to copyright law. He was the don king of the rock business and everyone hated him.

His name was Peter Grant, and yes he was a piece of shiat thief (like a lot of rock managers). Yes he had a lot to do with the bad decisions LZ made regarding copyright.

I did and I still believe that elvis and sun records stole more blues and brought it to the masses than led zeppelin or the yardbirds. Its a shame there arent any good black music now for people to steal from, music sucks today.

i will ask again, how much of the catalog is plundered and how much more of it is original. i want you to honestly answer that question, and write a list for each. then once you have those list completed you can go die in a fire. ignorant mouth breathing farktard

Incredible...simply incredible. This is the same rabid bunch that screams bloody murder if a power chord in one song was used previously in another...and god forbid roughly the same progression gets used...I've read zillions of threads here about this guy rippping off that guy and shiat...but the mighty Zep, who unabashedly steal ENTIRE farkING SONGS from people and suddenly it's 'oh they're just borrowing it, lighten up man!'

farking hypocrites.
