So is jerry still in the Misfits, or it is just Doyle carrying on the corpse now?

high standard of punkiness and really quality punkishness.

Punk cannot be reduced in quality, it would ruin it.

The current band is Jerry with ex-Black Flag members Dez Cadena and ROBO. Apparently their regular set now is a combo of Misfits & Black Flag. Doyle occasionally does sets with Danzig, so I guess this makes Jerry the Mike Love of the Misfits.

Misfits are still around? I knew they had a few "reunion" albums almost a decade ago, but I haven't heard anything since...

Sad really, Doyle recently said that Danzig was willing to do a reunion show and everything was falling into place until Jerry threw a monkeywrench in it. How big of an ass do you have to be to have your own brother take sides with the guy you hate so much?

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing Michael Graves behind the mic again. If you don't want Danzig back, atleast reform the "American Psycho" lineup back.

So much This. I thought there was a rumor floating around that Graves had been contacted about getting back with them again?

I like to refer to the Misfits now as "The Jerry Only Trio". They're really awful. Jerry just cant sing. I saw them a few years ago with the Damned who totally blew them away.

Im biased though anyway. Im related to the second vocalist Michale Graves. Jerry really needs to suck it the hell up and give Danzig a call. Thats the only shot the Misfits ever have at being relevant again.

hmmm... my husband has 8 tickets for the Misfits in November... I just looked at the tix and says nothing about Motorhead...
I wonder if I should look into this.

There's a lot of hate out there for Graves, but I think he gave it his all and did a really good jorb.

ghoulie_mask 2008-09-09 10:14:18 AM
I laughed and generally dismissed the Graves/American Psycho "rebirth" of the Misfits at the time, even though my friend loved it and said I would be surprised. I gave it like one listen before ignoring it for over 10 years.

Gave it a listen about a year back for the hell of it ... man, maybe it just took awhile to incubate, but now I really love it. Graves, for as big of a joke assh*le as he is, was really a great fit for them. "Dig Up Her Bones" is a great, great, GREAT tune, one of my all time favorite Misfits tunes.

So to sum up, I'm sorry I didn't enjoy that lineup when it was happening. I'd welcome Graves back.

And as for Jerry's singing, yeah, it's kinda silly, but I love his version of Dream Lover form that Project 1957 album (or whatever year it was called). In a homage of that period's music, it really works, because unlike Glen's voice, it doesn't take itself too seriously.

I saw Danzig /w Doyle with Doyle's new band, Gorgeous Frankenstein, as opening act (I believe it was their first show ever) last year in Baltimore. The whole show was sold as some sort of mini-Misfits reunion, where they'd actually play a half-set of Misfits songs.

Glenn tripped, fell off the stage, got pissed, and ended the show early--all this before a single Misfits song was played. It was the only major-act show I've seen in my life where the entire crowd was booing at the end (and chanting "bull-shiat, bull-shiat"). People actually lined up at the rear stage exit to yell at him some more.

/The Misfits are dead.

i've seen the misfits 4 or 5 times since Jerry Only took over. He's the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. He stays on stage after every show, and makes sure everyone gets autographs and pictures if they want.

My goddaughter LOVES the misfits. Jerry even brought her up on stage and sang to her, and we all got to go on the tour bus. It was a pretty magical moment for a 6 year old.

Next time you see him, approach him and ask a question about the Misfits. See what happens.

Danzig played at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas a few years ago.
My friend was the sound guy and told me this:
"Danzig's management contacted the event staff in advance and demanded that NOBODY speak to Glen about the Misfits or ask him to autograph ANY Misfits memorabilia while present at the venue."

He also said: "When Danzig arrived for early sound check he required that all personnel leave the entire building while he took the stage." This is absurd. He threatened to cancel otherwise. They had to clear out all the wait staff, janitors, security etc. and force them to wait for an hour out in the parking lot until he was done.

Danzig is major prick.

I saw Yo La Tengo along with Titus Andronicus cover "Where Eagles Dare" this summer, and I'm sure it was a hell of a lot better than anything the Misfits have been doing in the last decade or whatever.

nickxero 2008-09-09 01:22:57 PM
I've heard many stories about the Misfits being total dicks for performances.

This sounds far too much like press release BS. It's more than likely that they were told they couldn't play a full-length headlining set, and they instead chose to trash Motorhead for it.

Jerry has taken the Misfits and made them safe for 6 year olds. That's kind of the root of the problem right there.

I saw the Misfits in Detroit at the Greyskull in the mid-eighties. Amazing show. One of the last shows with Danzig. Very intense and very violent.

I saw Samhain/Danzig double-billed in Milwaukee in the late-nineties. Great show. Both sets included some Misfit's tunes.

I saw the "Misfits" in Milwaukee a few years ago. Marky Ramone on drums, Dez Cadena on guitar (him quitting Black Flag has to be a huge regret in his life. I don't know, maybe not) and Jerry Only as a three-piece. They did an eclectic mix of Flag, Misfits and Ramones songs. It farking blew.

I always found it interesting that the Danzig-era Misfits catalogue is more or less in reverse-chronological order of the dates the songs were recorded.

Fark the "new" Misfits. Just trying to flog a dead horse and cash in. Almost as bad as that whole Dead Kennedy's reunion thing without Jello Biafra. It just isn't going to be the same, so why call it the same name? That's like Black Flag without Gnaibunn.

I mean, when Henry Rollins did the Black Flag tribute album, he at least had the decency to bill the support tour as "The Rollins Band and Keith Morris perform the songs of Black Flag."

Oh, and let's not forget about "The Hissy-fits." Misfits tribute band, but they change all of the lyrics to gay-pride oriented subjects. Brilliant, and they rock harder than the new 'Fits. Not sure if they're still playing or not.

Fail. American Psycho sucked. It's Danzig plus the stuff from Walk Among Us and before, or it's nothing.

Let's face it, Danzig has been a fat joke now for years too.

They each only have a chance at being relevant again if they get back together.

"The Misfits, on the other hand, when they came in, they made sure that everybody got T-shirts, records, they brought in vitamins ... They hug everybody and they're best friends with everybody. They made a good impression on the Turner people right away."

I'm going to see Danzig on October 28th on the Blackest of the Black tour. I've seen him a few times in the past. He manages to always throw in a couple of Misfits songs into the set. So I can't understand why he gets his knickers in a wad over someone asking him about the Misfits, or not signing any Misfits merchandise. I mean I could understand if someone came up with a Gaves era mistits album, or picture and him go off. But if I take up my Static Age album and want him to sign it, I don't want to hear him biatch about it.

how'd he make them safe for 6 year olds? she listens to and adores older misfits stuff... all the way up to Famous Monsters.

just because he's nice to a kid that idolizes the band, makes him a bad guy?

"how'd he make them safe for 6 year olds? she listens to and adores older misfits stuff... all the way up to Famous Monsters"

You might want to review some of the lyrics on the older stuff before you give it to a six year old.. Not that she'd understand wtf he's sayin though..

Misfits are great in all their incarnations.. that's the point.. a rotating roster with new songs.. something Danzig, started and wants to see live on without him.. Don't forget who owns the rights to ALL the misfits catalog from his era.

It's all drama and bullshiat to be played for media time..
It would not suprise me to find Glen, Doyle and Jerry drinking beers somewhere and laughing at all the assholes who suck up whatever they feed the media.

To me they were cooler when they were dark, bloody, and gritty though.
Is Marky Ramone not drumming for the 1950's project anymore.. .I saw that show at Jaxx in Springfield.. awesome.. My crappy band at the time opened.
