I'm not a ska guy, but I have everything the Specials ever did.
Ever since I heard "Ghost Town" when I was kid I was addicted.

The article didn't mention that the singer for X-Ray Spex went AWOL for a while. I think she joined the Moonies or some shiat, amirite? Paulie whats-her-face. I'm assuming she was a part of the reunion, but does anyone know for sure?

This would not be The Specials first show since their 1981 breakup. They toured, though I don't know how extensively, in the mid to late 90's. A band I was in opened for them in Hartford, CT in 1997. Great group of guys, fantastic performance.

/Once again, crack reporting from Rolling Stone.

Terry Hall, the singer, was not aboard for the 1996 reformation. 3 out of the 7 member band at that point were non-original ringers, so the "officiality" is questionable.

Hell, even FTFA: "However, because co-founder and keyboardist Jerry Dammers wasn't present at the show, the band was billed as Terry Hall and Friends."

So.. Rolling Stone wasn't wrong, especially for a 150 word blurb.

Just look 'em up on wiki, rip some of their music off and give it a listen and try and activate your dormant critical faculties to provide you with an answer.

Good call, forgot about the ringers. I remember their set but not much afterwards. There were two kegs backstage, and those guys can drink.

"Germ Free...." is probably the best punk record to ever come out of the UK...... at least out of that first wave of bands, and maybe of all time

/sees a few Damned albums, Never Mind The Bullocks, and a few Clash albums as the only contenders........

I'm guessing those are the only UK punk records you've ever heard then, yeah?

Uh, no. Willing to wager that my UK punk vinyl collection is bigger than yours. And I was talking about the "first wave" (pre-1981 or so).

/The Ruts, The Adverts or Uk Subs, anyone?
//I know, I know, don't feed the trolls

Does anybody else sort of wish to be a New York or London street hoodlum in the times when punk was getting huge?

I grew up on the music after getting introduced to modern ska in early HS (mid-late 90s), went to old ska then new skapunk then new punk then classic punk. Clash, Bad Religion, Specials, Adolescents, Buzzcocks, Pistols... I would kill to have been a scenester back then. Maybe it's just nostalgia and I'd be disenchanted after being spit on the first fifty times. I dunno.

I was, in NY. not to the level of people a few years older than me but I saw some good shows
/The Clash, Blondie, Buzzcocks
//I met TSOL, RHCP, Circle Jerks through friends in back up bands
///I saw Metallica as a back up band in a bar

I heard about this reunion happening a while back, glad to see it has gone through. My friend is totally obsessed with Terry Hall, I hear about him every day.
