I can't be the only person on the face of the planet that thinks him showing up to work dressed as bin Laden is just a tad bit funny, am I?

He's a tad bit pissy about American politics for a limey poofter.

On 9/12/2001? I would have farking shot you. A lot.

I prefer people who speak their mind. I didn't see the VMA's (or at least I'm not watching it now) and I will follow up on this guy simply from this article.

fark "pop stars" and their commercially-driven "convictions".

Good to see MTV is back in the "manufactured controversy" business.

Liked how to begged and pleaded for americans to vote for Obama, and calling Bush a "retarded cowboy"

I suspect MTV is desperate for people to watch this show.

Desperate measures often allow for more truth than one would normally allow.

I think that this guy is for real and MTV is going to take some hits, real hits, over his comments and behavior.

The real trick is the spin.

This guy sounds like a real idiot. Do us Obama supporters a favor and just stop talking.

But Brand is a cock anyway.

hahaha not gonna lie - he was the only good thing about the VMAs this year, or any of the past few years.

Well it wouldn't have been funny at all if he had done it on 9/10/2001, would it?

serpent_sky [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 12:48:17 AM
I thought it was funny, much to my surprise, but I like Russell Brand. I was pretty shocked the audience didn't respond.

The rest of the show, what I could watch of it, looked like a public access broadcast of a high school talent show.

I didn't even know the awards were on tonight... I was at a friend's house and we were flipping channels.

*shrug*

kitryne [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 12:59:21 AM
I didn't see any of what he did, but I would totally let him give me the clap at least twice.

Don't look at me like that, they make antibiotics these days.

First Post 2008-09-08 01:04:40 AM
The funniest part was TI and Rihanna's new song with the Numa Numa chorus.

I was waiting for Weezy to rap over "Chocolate Rain" after that one.

Howie Spankowitz [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 01:29:01 AM
My wife had this on downstairs and I caught a few minutes of his opening monologue. My wife paused it and I told her that he came off like an amateur open mic comic who is trying too hard to be "edgy."

Com on, dude...if you are so tuned in, you would know that "VILF" comments related to Sarah Palin flattened out on the hack curve on the second day after she was chosen for the ticket.

It's hard for us comics to sit in the back and watch guys like him. Painful.

Tigger [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 01:38:23 AM
Everyone knows Brand is a cock. The problem is some people appear to be taking him seriously.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 01:59:52 AM
I think it's great when someone says things they aren't supposed to, especially to an audience of self-righteous talentless noise-machines who are basically a cancer on music.

But then, I've had to talk to a few of the Jonas Brother's types face to face, and it makes you want to drill a hole through your own brain with a Black and Decker just to shut it all out.

/I am tired.

On Halloween 1999, I went to a party dress in a white sheet, with my socks pulled high and a 7 iron. I was the ghost of Payne Stewart.

I share his humor.

WFern 2008-09-08 03:30:38 AM
Never heard of him, but that stunt took balls. Not a lot of brains or class, but balls.

sloughtown4ever [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 03:35:20 AM
Russell Brand is a smug, arrogant tosser who seems to revel in being a serial shagger, and if I ever met him I would probably rather enjoy punching him repeatedly in the cock until his genitalia was destroyed. However, there are times when he can be blisteringly funny, but other times... well, not.

DrunkArse 2008-09-08 03:46:28 AM
Don't care about the Bin Laden costume. Sounds like bad taste, I probably would've sent him home on September 12 too, but whatever.

The VMA's were awful. Nothing clever, nothing ground breaking, nothing to stir you at all.

As sad as it may seem, I remember a time in the late 80's throughout the 90's when this actually made more of a lot more of a difference than the Grammy's. It was stupid, but it was with it to a degree. I can't say I've always agreed with their choices, but there always seemed to be moments that made a difference to the culture at large, however. Now it just seems to be a vacuum.

Is it just me? I guess I'm appealing to you younger Farkers. Is this merely beyond the scope of my yard now? Did you find something to take away from this event? If so, what? Or is this just further proof that MTV is irrelevant and music choices are becoming more dilluted and increasingly a niche product catered to by various internet sources.

Please enlighten me. I've been seeking out my own for awhile now, but I wonder how much you care? Do the VMA's even register on your radar?

ElTaco 2008-09-08 04:01:04 AM
Didn't see the show, but if he wants to call the Jonas Brothers out for being a bunch of pussies(or is that lack of?). Then I'm ok with him. Fark this 7th Heaven "rock" genre.

mekki 2008-09-08 04:23:20 AM
I wonder which high school auditorium MTV rented out to host the awards in. It was lovely.

/Was wanting for a principal to come out and read the rules of behavior before the show.

havneq 2008-09-08 04:27:11 AM
It looks like the Jonas Brothers can sue him and MTV for slander quite easily on this one. MTV is going to take some major flack from this.

CableGuy 2008-09-08 04:33:35 AM
cheap_thoughts: Liked how to begged and pleaded for americans to vote for Obama, and calling Bush a "retarded cowboy"

It was funnier when Chris Rock called Bush a retard. (it's the last joke)

damitjim 2008-09-08 04:59:28 AM
He was completely 'unfunny'. Was there no American available to host the show or did everyone else turn them down?

psychotic_calm 2008-09-08 05:21:57 AM
Remove all Republicans:
The Obama campaign should run huge ads of celebrities telling us why they want a Obama presidency. Who wouldn't love that?

Celebrities.

Let them think for us.

Sounds like a great idea...

Tat'dGreaser [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 05:59:39 AM
They still do that "award show"?

abigsmurf 2008-09-08 06:04:36 AM
Americans presenters are awful on award shows way too much backslapping. On the otherhand British awards shows aren't afraid to make the jokes and take the piss out of stars.

Watch the Baftas with Stephen Fry or Johnathon Ross for an example of this. Provided it's good natured and witty, there's no reason why you can't rip into people on these shows. Heck just look at Elton John recently, could you imagine a US show where a star says he could out snort another star?

I dislike Russel Brand but Americans are being way too stuffy over this.

enzoweb 2008-09-08 06:22:40 AM
A lot of comedians talk about controversial subjects and make jokes which may offend some. You either laugh at them or you don't.

Get over it.

inconnu 2008-09-08 06:47:22 AM
I concur with the sentiment of him being a smug tosser who is occasionally funny.

Which makes him no different than that one douche we all know in our daily lives.

Astra 2008-09-08 06:48:23 AM
He pissed off Jordin Sparks, so he's aces in my book.

Tigger: Everyone knows Brand is a cock. The problem is some people appear to be taking him seriously.

Considering the fact that he's virtually unknown here, I'm gonna say you're wrong. Very very very very very very very very few people know he's a cock. Thus, his first major appearance leaves people upset because they don't know not to take him seriously.

mr_bunny [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-09-08 06:59:29 AM
I think it is great that he is keeping 1987 alive in his own little teased mousse way.

Can someone post the Internet Tough Guy photoshop for these guys?

Your response is far too even handed. The Internet Tough Guys will be gunning for you. Watch your back.

I know how you feel. I wanted to shoot my fair share of New Yorkers and Boston residents for their cheering and celebrating the IRA bombing my relatives. Isn't terrorism such a grand game.

mikem004 2008-09-08 07:29:43 AM
Hang on, hang on, they interrupted three hour blocks of Parental Control and Date My Mom to hand out "music" awards?

Trefusius 2008-09-08 07:46:58 AM
For the record, calling Bush a retarded cowboy isn't edgy anywhere outside of the US. Complimenting him in any way would be edgy. And stupid.

Silent Fireworks 2008-09-08 07:49:36 AM
Apparently Russell Brand was in the midst of a heroin addiction when he pulled the Bin Laden stunt and he deeply regrets it.

He's still a douche ... but a funny douche.

he showed up to work the day after 9/11 dressed as bin laden! Not sure if it was the NYC office or not but either way MTV has a major NYC presence and that was way over the line. If he was in NYC he is lucky he didn't get killed on the way to work.

I am sorry but there is nothing ok with that kind of behavior comic or not.

bostonowns 2008-09-08 07:59:22 AM
making fun of hypocrite celebritards to their faces gets a thumbs up. all those little pop star punks are sluts behind the scenes and for him to call them out is pretty much just stating the obvious to all of us who arent naive.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 08:05:32 AM
Jordin Sparks' response to him is very telling of the "abstinence" mindset:

"American Idol" champ Jordin Sparks defended them: "I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?"

Really, Jordin? There's no middle ground between celibacy and "being a slut"? Sexuality runs completely crazy if it's not reigned in by the institution of marriage?

It's really telling of what their actual mindset is.

The Fourth Karamazov [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 08:40:10 AM
I've never seen him before. I just watched the opening monologue type thing and I thought it was pretty funny.

Nemo's Brother 2008-09-08 08:41:35 AM
Didn't Brittney claim to be a virgin until marriage or something like that too?

/I'm guessing the Jonas brothers don't consider sex with their fater as real sex.
