FTFA:

After weeks of hype, the pop singer took the stage simply to deliver four sentences, shielding her lower face with her microphone.

To cover up the fact that she was lip-synching the whole thing, no doubt.

Who cares, Britney Spears is trash and MTV doesn't even play music videos - why do they even have an awards show?

Shrapnel [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 04:37:33 AM
Kids these days.

/lawn. off.

Kurmudgeon 2008-09-08 05:19:36 AM
I don't see what the fuss is, she did what they said she would do.
Nothing more, nothing less.
At least she was out in public and managed to neither hurt herself or anyone else.
MTV does SUCK, but that's hardly Britney's fault.

I attempted to find a reason to give a fark, but failed comprehensively.

Surely the awards for the best videos should go to the people who directed them, not the ones who happen to be in them.

LadyHawke [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 06:08:48 AM
See what happens when she does everything she is told to do by her manager/handlers? She ends up looking good and people like her. I feel bad for her, because she obviously can't take care of herself, and she's, what, 27? Not to mention her mother sucks ass. Apparently having her dad appointed to be her conservator was the best thing to happen to her.

NicoFinn [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 06:42:07 AM
The surprise is that they gave her three damn awards. (Or did I read that article wrong?) Three! For what?

Yes but for only 20 minutes a day, between commercials.

Stupidest video. MTV was desperate for the rubber necking viewer ratings. Only recognition this scumhag deserves is "crazy bad mother of the year" award.

I watched a little of the VMA's out of morbid curiosity. It's amazing how far MTV has fallen. Back in '92, the show was at the Pauley Pavilion, with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, RHCP and others. It was a farking rock concert with awards in between, with thousands of people in attendance.

Last night, the show was in some sound stage with about 800 people in the audience (all looking bored). The performances I saw (Lil Wayne and Paramore) were unbelievably bad. I looked up the nominees for the awards and nearly shot myself in the face in misery

ha. Well I'm not one of those guys who stopped buying new music in the 90's. Not at all. It was more of a comment on what the state of popular music is right now. The pendulum is due to swing back towards rock music again here soon.

Sorry, kid. I thought things were bad in the late 80s when I was 22, but it's like the golden age of rock compared to what you guys got stuck with. I can't think the only one who thinks rap is mostly very boring.

OLD? This has nothing to do with getting old - MTV and the music biz are completely irrelevant today. I mean - the FARKING Jonas Brothers?!??! Are you farking kidding me? Three homo choir boys are the hot stuff these days?>?

And Lil Wayne?? he is so ugly, you almost turn to stone from looking at him?? There are idiot magazines around these days saying he's the greatest rapper around. What?!?!@#

You wouldn't be saying that if you had grown up in a time where there WAS music of any worth.

tonesskin [TotalFark] 2008-09-08 11:35:19 AM
WAHAHAHA, the audience didn't get Brand's humor (according to several reports). Who didn't see that coming? A bunch of stupid amoebas didn't get sarcasm? Maybe that's why Dane Cook is such a hit to the MTV crowd.

But the quote after to the AP is the best when he said he was sorry for picking on that guy who farked the Achy Breaky Heart guy's daughter yet still wears a celibacy ring...then said no one should ever have sex again.

And can someone tell me who the hell Jordin Sparks is? Why is she wearing a celibacy ring? Is it necessary? Does anyone really want to fark her?

TSE 2008-09-08 11:45:51 AM
The only two bands that played an actual song were the Jonas Brothers (gag) and Kid Rock w/ his lame-o rip-off hit of the summer.... by far the worst VMA show evAR.

Pontus and the Nail Drivers: You wouldn't be saying that if you had grown up in a time where there WAS music of any worth.

Maybe I should have added [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] to my post, since the quotation marks around "music" didn't give you two enough of a raging clue. What I was attempting to convey through the use of quotation marks is that it doesn't matter if you believe it constitutes music or not, the fact still remains that you neither have to buy it nor listen to it if you so choose. You can just listen to, you know, music you actually like as opposed to this horrible "music" that, mysteriously, millions and millions of people rush out to purchase every day. See, that's what I do. I listen to music I actually love, and refuse to subject myself to music I hate. It's a lot easier than it sounds.

did anyone else notice that vh1 pretty much went off the air during the award show and said something like "we're watching the VMA's. you should too."

way to compete, vh1. no wonder both channels are full of fail.

Yes, the VMA's sucked, but seriously -- has there ever been a more brutal verbal assassination like the opening monologue???
