Awesome, just like the last 2 times I've seen this go green.

Submitted this, but the Mods were not in my favor:

TRIVIA ~ the laser-light show seen in the video was loaned to the production of ALIEN.

That's what's lighting the blue mist when John Hurt discovers the eggs

I don't care how many times this gets a greenlight, I love it every time.

After I saw this I immediately went out and bought a Fender J-Bass.

I will be the king of rock one day.

that is very strange... I actually towed with submitting this yesterday! but went with Primus playing Master of puppets....

If you watch this clip from youTube, there is also some awesome bass solos of his, on the right. there is one with a cam attached at the end of his neck that was out of freaking control...it looks like his fingers are in f-forward

John Entwistle had a solo album. It's true.

You want a good bass line? Someone find the song "Apron Strings" off of that album.

I know what you're talking about. That's what inspired me to pick up a bass. Two years later, I still suck... :(

THIS.

If this was greenlit once a day I'd watch it once a day. Totally sick and mesmerizing.

I know it's old news for some, but I can never get enough of this clip, and a bass battle wouldn't be complete without it.

He is absolutely incredible. I was watching a film about The Who last week and, when they just isolated the individuals, you realized just how awesome they were as musicians.

I also have to say that watching Roger dancing around in this video from time to time is funny as hell.

Me too,
Tried to learn to play until I broke my Bass. I fixed it and it worked better, so I became a guitar tech instead.

Now I see the world on someone else's dime and get paid for the pleasure. Never did get a chance to see the Ox though.

I submitted the camera on neck solo, but alas, this one still kicks ass.

He doesn't sound good.
Nothing greasy or grooving is going on.
There is absolutely no space or dimension to his playing.
He is not even attempting to stay "in the pocket"
I admit 100% he is way WAY faster than me on bass.
Nothing to me is more pathetic than bass players who attempt to impress other bass players. You will go a lot farther and nail more gigs if you play in a manner which impresses a drummer and a serious song writer.

craigdamage 2008-09-08 07:03:15 AM
......a few minutes later I went back to that youtube link to see if there were any clips on the sidebar of Hadrien Feraud actually playing in a band and I now happily admit that I was very much more impressed with his playing with other musicians.

His rhythm and meter is superb.

And how cool were the Who? Entwistle was 'the Quiet One'.

Keith Moon died 30 years ago yesterday. I remember it very well.

/Gonna go listen to Quadrophenia now
//Then break stuff during "The Real Me"

too bad they don't have an Ox Cam of "Real Me"
/I saw his band play 3-4 times in small clubs
//after one show I heard a guy say "I'm going home to throw my bass out the window"

if i wouldve posted any of that nobody wouldve cared. his playing on the live mclaughlin record from the 4th dimension is off the charts. hes doing something with chick corea now too, i dont know if its a record or just live stuff. and hes just 23 and totally self taught, its unreal.

He's really good and all, obviously. But I can't be the only one who got bored after a while.

I mean it is still the bass, even if it is played masterfully.

FredGarvin 2008-09-09 03:13:01 AM
Jeez, what awesome stuff. The Who found an adequate substitute for Moon in Zak Starkey (after all he learned drums from Moonie and ringo), but Pino Palladino is no Entwistle.

There's a lot of great bass players, and I bet every last one idolizes the ox.

Malbar: go buy a bass, then call us back in a month to apologize.

FredGarvin 2008-09-09 03:18:50 AM
buzzvert:

He had 3 solo albums, Whistle Rhymes had Frampton on it, and Too Late the Hero (his best solo LP) had Joe Walsh on guitar. Some obscene bass wanking on that one.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2008-09-09 10:01:58 AM
Malbar: Is this supposed to be impressive or something? Anyone with a bass and 3 weeks to practice can pull this off with ease.

As with most things done by masters, it is much harder than it looks. There is so much win in his right hand that he has you plum killed before you even start. If you think you're going to get a bass, overdrive your amp, get out your tortex .72 mm pick and do that, you are sadly sadly mistaken.

Now dont even get me started on his left hand...
