Authorities said Friday that Thomas McFarland took his motorboat to Townsend Inlet near Avalon on Aug. 22 and dumped a bag full of some 300 dental-type needles, along with 180 cotton swabs and other materials from his Wynnewood, Pa., medical office. According to police affidavits, McFarland admitted tossing the material from his boat.



why would you DO something like that!? Proper disposal of medical waste can't be all that expensive...and I'll bet the fine and jail time will be FAR more expensive and humiliating than having paid someone to dispose of that waste legally.

Some of the debris actually closed the beach where I live (Brigantine, just a stone's throw north of Atlantic City) for a few hours. It wasn't just Avalon.

I used to go down to Avalon. I spent every summer there. It has gone from a very cool place to stay to an overcrowded mess of hyperzealous police and crowded everything.

There is ZERO relaxation now. Plus the water is as brown as ever.

$1M+ for a basic home surrounded by douchebags. The bay is too shallow for even a runabout at low tide.

The bars are packed with "players".

I love it here now in the summer. All the a-holes are down there. It is nice and quiet up here on the Main Line with all the biatchy mommies and their Escalades down at 7MI.

Is he just trying to save some expense for disposal you think? I wouldn't imagine that it would be so expensive that one would risk getting caught. Farking dig a hole and bury it next time, or something.

A different article said the medial waste was all unused, so it wasn't a matter of disposal. My guess would be a vendetta against Avalon, and an attempt to ruin one of their biggest weekends of the year?
