Pssh, nah, they'll somehow give McCain the credit. Just like after Bush lifted the ban two months ago and the crude oil price wen down, McCain gave Bush the credit for that.

Reality confuses old people...

Remove all Republicans: I know. Everyone forgets the fact that Obama first called out oil speculators and said his administration would go after them. What kind of partisan idiot thinks that the President of the United States would have that kind of power?

Type of people who listen/watch FAUX NEWS. They believe oil prices will somehow magically decline by two buch a gallon at the pump as soon as offshore drilling ban is lifted.

There's something scare about the group of uneducated morons who have the power to vote.

Well, when Clinton was in office gas in my area was about 1.89 or so. Bush came in like a gun wielding cowboy and caused the prices to go high. His stance in Iraq played a major role in the prices, wheather anyone wants to believe it or no is their personal choice.

Waitress Judy Artice, "Miss Judy," as she is known at Glisan's roadside diner, declared Palin "the perfect candidate" after watching her Wednesday speech. That said, Artice had already decided that her vote would go to the first candidate who mentioned gasoline prices.

"And -- I'll be danged -- it was Obama," Artice, 46, said between servings of liver and onions during the lunch rush.

Out of curiousity... Who actually listens to Bush's radio addresses?

I heard a couple a year or two ago, not intentionally but because a local news radio station happened to play them when I was tuned in. They were actually quite good as political speeches go, and by good I partly mean "very short."

The weekly radio address tradition has puzzled me for a long time. In Its modern form it seems to be a voluntary program where news media agree to report on at least one Presidential statement each week if the President designates it as a radio address.

Can I explain something here? If a Democrat writes a bill the president doesn't like he vetos it. They need 60% of the vote to override the veto. The Republicans always vote down party lines to back him. Pelosi and Reid are pretty worthless without a Democrat in the top spot. Get it?

What is she supposed to do? Walk in there and punch him? The problem is the Republicans are protecting him.

Cuz he still has veto power.

The very first thing the Democrats did when they won both congress and senate was to increase the minimum wage. Ted Kennedy literally got out of his hospital bed to cast his tie breaking on a health-care vote.

People don't see the good that Pelosi has done because they usually get stopped at the senate, and if it does go through, the President usually vetoes it as well.

We're not talking about something the President doesn't like; we're talking about something that Democrats don't like. If any Congressman decides to write up legislation lifting the offshore drilling ban, Pelosi and the Democrats can make sure it never reaches the President's desk to begin with. If the ban gets lifted, it's her fault.

"It would take at least a decade for oil companies to obtain permits, procure equipment, and do the exploration necessary to get the oil out of the ground, most industry analysts say. And even then, they add, the amount of new oil produced would probably be too small to significantly affect world oil prices."

Dimplehumper 2008-09-07 08:13:25 PM
I have to wonder why the Dems haven't done an end-around on the issue to shortcircuit the only substantive policy issue that currently favors the Repubs.

What's wrong with coming out and saying, "OK, we support the right of each state to decide whether or not to allow offshore drilling with two caveats:
1) The leases for the right to drill must be competitively bid
2) Any spillage must be cleaned up or funded by the drilling company."

Details are important (drilling company must maintain a minimum equity stake, seismology/exploration allowed prior to bidding on long-term leases, forefeiture of leases if not operated... that sort of thing) but if the policy is stated with those two simple points, I think the public will get it.

Right?

lexslamman 2008-09-07 08:14:12 PM
Is drilling really the solution we want when the big problem is getting us OFF of our oil addiction? What does minutely increasing oil supply 7-10 years down the road do to curb our fossil fuel usage? Does the GOP have a plan for such a reduction that deviates significantly from the failed energy policy of the last 8 years?

They're talking about a 'quickie' impeachment after the election. There will still be almost 3 months left in his term to impeach Bush.

Expect this if the Dems pick up the 4-5 senate seats and the presidency like it appears will happen.

Remove all Republicans: What's so crazy about her ideas? What makes her a racist? Saying, "My impression of modern-day black Republicans is they have to pass a litmus test in which all black blood is extracted." I don't see anything wrong with that. What's wrong with challenging the Bush administration on what REALLY happened during 9/11? She was working hard pushing for facts to be exposed. You support the administration continuing to lie and hide information from everyone?

Of course he does. Because to do otherwise is "crazy".

McKinney was the ONLY congress-critter to bring up the wargames taking place that day, and the effect that they could have had on the 9/11 attacks. She was dodged/partially answered by Myers and Rummy, and then lunch was called.
The kool-aid drinking drones label her crazy because of the incident where she punched (later changed to "slapped", then "uncertain contact") a capitol hill cop. That was all her enemies on the Hill needed to start a smear campaign against her.
She's the only one with the spine to ask the real questions, and she'd get my vote in a minute.

Bush has only vetoed 12 bills, 4 of them were over-ridden, can't do that without some Republicans. Bush didn't even veto a single bill in his first term, and his first veto was in 2006.

Because the Republicans would vote it down before it reached his desk? He had no reason to veto anything until the Democrats took the majority. He blindly passed anything the Republicans sent across his desk. Especially spending bills. The only reason the 4 were overridden had something to do with the popularity of distancing yourself from Bush to save your own ass in the next election.
