Anybody stupid enough to believe this is stupid enough to not listen to the next goddamn sentence that he said.

And, considering McCain railed on and on about being taken out of context...I can't wait for people to run with this.

Do you know why McCain chose Palin?

He wanted to keep a Bush in the White House.

It wasn't a slip up, it was an answer to a question about Republicans spreading the Muslim rumor. That's what happens when a clip edits out the question.

In order to believe that we'd have to entertain the ridiculous notion that Republicans are less than honest. Un-possible.

It is already well established that he was raised muslim. His real religion is socialism, though.

A man named Hussein mentions his Muslim faith.

How is this news to anyone?

Mercutio879 [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 02:17:24 PM
I've got the feeling that anybody who would be swayed by this wouldn't be voting for Obama anyway.

Il Douchey [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 02:19:45 PM
In the context of the conversation, Obama was agreeing that McCain and his crew haven't been exploiting the rumors of his Muslim faith, which he clarified one second after the cut.

I'm no Obama fan, but this is just trifling "gotcha" type stuff

If i remember correctly, he was talking about people calling him a muslim, saying they question him and his "muslim faith," but that John McCain has never attacked him like that. I think it was a pretty solid answer and even gave McCain some credit, which is classy. Obviously, people with an axe to grind did some editing. If this takes off like the Dean Scream, the campaign is over.

BatardAmericain 2008-09-07 02:55:58 PM
How COULD Obama be a Muslim? If I were a Muslim I would have a hard time avoiding all that good pork in the Chicago area. If I was a Muslim when I arrived, I'd soon convert, just for the pork.

Later on in his speech, he also mentions having a "mile of cars" for sale. Most clear cut case of false advertising I've ever seen.

adamgreeney: Anyone have a link to the ENTIRE piece? There is a lot left out of that clip.

It's on the ABC website.

The question was about McCain getting upset at Obama supported blogs spreading rumors about Bristol Palin.

Obama said that he went through a similar thing when the secret muslim story was pushed. Snuffleupogus said that it wasn't John McCain or the campaign and Obama said that McCain has never talked about his muslim faith.

Snuffleupogus tried to correct him (for whatever reason) and the very next sentence is Obama saying something to the effect of "But, I'm referring to my supposed muslim faith that has been floated around blah blah blah".

The man is really, really, really bad (think George W. Bush bad) when not having the benefit of a teleprompter.

The Democrats better have an October surprise in hand, because McCain's bounce will be helped by this and the "I always thought of joining the military" mistakes, and the debates are going to be a big oh-fer for the Democrats.

This election may just be over.

I have to admit - out of context, I liken this comment to Condi's when she referred to Bush as her husband.

BillyBob_The_Magnificent: Obama's white grandparents from Kansas raised him as a muslim?

No...his muslim step-father took him to pray in the mosque. Whether that actually makes him a muslim, I don't know.

the video with context

Obama didn't really slip up, he was just misunderstood by Stephanopoulos.

This talking point hasn't influenced anyone, really.
Find a new one.

The primary debates clearly indicated he could speak just fine without a teleprompter.

It's funny how they tried the 'gaffe-machine' thing with countdowns and all that other shiat. Didn't work on Obama, so now they're trying it on Biden.

It's beyond the point anyway, just wait for the debates.

I didn't hear a real gaffe in there. He spoke very well when comparing his tax cuts and handled the questions about Palin and McCain with class and without being insulting. This quote is entirely out of context and in no way implies that he is a muslim. If someone sees it that way, then they need to go back and learn listening comprehension.

bulldg4life [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 03:09:03 PM
The very next motherf*cking sentence:

"Well, what I'm saying is he hasn't suggested that I'm Muslim."

I mean, good god, it's the next bloody sentence.

Mordant Wow, you are pretty bright aren't you ?

You are pretty presumptuous (and, imagine that, a liberal being condescending and thinking he or she is smarter than someone who disagrees; will wonders never cease!).

This is obviously nothing more than a slip-up. A verbal gaffe, of the type that George W. Bush is famous for making. Nothing more, nothing less.

But the fact remains, Obama is terrible, absolutely terrible, without the benefit of a prompter. He's going to get whooped in the debates. And Biden is not going to fare any better. And with the gaffes today, he's going to have a day or two more of bad buzz-- buzz over things that probably don't mean anything in the long term (although the 'thought of joining the military' one might actually cause longer term damage as it shows him to be transparently phony) but bad buzz nonetheless.

He's going to be trailing heading in to the debates. And they aren't going to help him.

Unless there is an October surprise, he may have squandered the most favorable political terrain ever.
