I've always had a crush on her. She was great in Annie Hall.

Jamerson played the bass line on I Was Made To Love Her.

Carol Kaye's other claim to fame was that she took credit for songs that she never played on.

Some Bass Playing Guy: Jamerson played the bass line on I Was Made To Love Her.

It was the early 80's when I first remember hearing Good Vibrations (born in '77). It was right then I knew I wanted to play bass.

It just killed me when I heard her make all these claims, essentially trying to steal Jamerson's glory. Here is a decent dissection of the controversy: bassland.net/jamerson (poppity) It's in the middle of the page, if you see the photo of Jamerson's mother, you've gone too far.

Oh, and Jamerson never had a chance to refute these claims by Carol as he died on 8/2/83, a solid 10 years before she laid claim.

It's only in "dispute" because Carol Kaye says so.

Plus it's classic Jamerson in style.

Carol Kaye is a great bass player and her contribution to music and the instrument cannot be denied. She just needs to stop claiming credit for Jamerson's work.

1) 'Mel Thorme'?

2) I'm a pretty big music fan, especially the 60s and 70s and I've
never heard of her until today.

I have heard an awful lot of Kaye vs Jamerson over the years.

I really don't know which story to believe.

I do very much adore the Motown bass sound.(Stax too)

I think the problem is back in those days the session folks were all payed scale and weren't given credit at all on the records. The specific details are now lost forever.

Jamerson sadly drank himself to death a long time ago.

Anyway--I highly recommend the Ampeg B200R bass combo amp.
I play a Fender P-Bass with flatwound strings and can nail the classic "Motown sound" perfectly. Very deep and warm tone. It is the single most superior sounding bass amp I have ever owned. (Gallien Krueger,Peavey,Ashdown couldn't come close)

The question for me is, is she the same Carol Kaye who sung "Shook Outta Shape" in the Ray Dennis Steckler classic (yes, classic) The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies?

Bass player oneupmanship is over. Carol Kaye is undefeated and undefeatable.

Never knew she played everything with a pick - go figure. And I used to have such a hangup against plucked bass.

If I understand correctly, Jamerson was all about the fingers, and more correctly the *finger*. Index-only, basically technique transferred directly from upright playing.

craigdamage, the BR200 gets good headroom, then? I may be looking into one soon...

+1 on Jamerson. fark Carol for even sniffing at his work. Her resume is impressive enough without having to claim shiat she didn't play.

You've got to be kidding me. Without James Jamerson, there is no Carol Kaye.

Will Continue to Monitor the BR200 gets good headroom, then?

Yes indeed.
It is only a combo with a single 15" and a tweeter but it is 220 watts @ 4ohms. It actually is a total of 220 watts as is and does not require an extension cabinet. The 15" speaker is rated at 4ohm impedance.
Most combos are usually only 8ohms so the Ampeg draws more power.
I was disappointed with some of the Ashdown combos that claimed 307 watts as they are only a total of 307 if you ad another 8ohm cabinet to them.
