If you tilt your head the other way, the can says Mons, like Olympus Mons, or Mons Pubis.

Chinese beer is also the heaviest beer per pint, due to lead content.

It's cool, it's just to add a little flavor.

It's a little too yellow for me...

Liberal Elite 2008-09-07 10:58:39 AM
Tsingtao beer , for the price, isn't that bad. A case will cost around 2 or 3$ in China and it is drinkable. Charging $3 a bottle for it in the US is an outrage.

Chabash 2008-09-07 10:59:23 AM
Kamenitza is still the cheapest beer in the world, I think it was around 30 cents for two liters. Thank you, Bulgaria.

Tainted with lead, anti-freeze, and rat poison.

Yummy, except for the aftertaste.

Being the largest producer of beer in the world DOES NOT mean people will drink it.

Maybe that is a subliminal message regarding the taste.
/sweaty Mons Pubis..?

Sure they will tell you that it's 16 ounces, but we all know they're only 13 - 14.

yeah, i work at a restaurant, that might explain some of the tips i get from our asian friends. (not trying to sound racist, but anyone else here that works as a server would understand)

Too bad you can't run a car on it. Or can you...

The brew I can get from the local brewery is about 25 cents for 600ml. It's not the best tasting, but when you can get over 2 liters of beer for a dollar you don't have much right to complain. Some of the more expensive beers like tsingtao/qingdao are somewhat good(though it's a distinctive chinese beer taste, not quite any other classification of western beer like pilsner, indian pale ale, et cetera). There's 1.4 billion people in this country and most of them are thirsty for beer with every meal.

/has an opened snow beer next to him now, while he types this
//The chinese like to drink but can't drink very well
///don't ever try the "rice wine" or "baijiu" if offered it

tbernot [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 12:10:07 PM
Because nothing says 'fresh' like beer stored in a sea container, in the hot sun, for a month crossing the ocean.

Actually Tsingtao and Qingdao taste a lot like PBR to me. It freaked me out a little when I tried one. PBR isn't bad, but I'm not going to pay 8 dollars/6 pack for it.

I have now idea how Snow managed to top them in sales, it tastes like american crap beer. The other major beers, tsingtao, yanjing and harbin are way better. These are all quality beers btw, and safe to drink. Yanjing is my favorite in China.

Some of the smaller local breweries tend to use formaldehyde in the brewing process,so better to avoid them, although in the past few years also some smaller quality breweries have come up.

There is more than one type of snow beer, and they aren't all equally worthless.
Harbin doesn't sit well with me so I can't reccomend that, but Yanjing is my favorite one I can get from my corner store. Costs about 50元(about$7) for 24. So while it's expensive, I feel that the taste and the saftey assurance that comes with it is worth the price. I'm glad the government is examining what goes in the bottles now.

I like Chinese beer. The tsingtao crap you buy in stores doesn't even come close to what you get in China.

bikkurikun [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 12:32:02 PM
It is still difficult to get some foreign beers though. Supermarkets only tend to carry Heineken, Carlsberg, Budweiser and Pabst as the foreign brands. Better beers you can only buy in deli-shops in the big cities, and even then the choice is limited. Same for liquor, I havent been able to find a store yet with a decent selection of single malts.

We have snow here in wisconsin, we let it melt and drain into the lakes and rivers during spring.

I do not drink light lagers, it is a poor cheap substitute for good beer
