That's gonna take the edge off watching cars go round in circles.

Wait, I forget, if it's Australia is that clockwise or couter-clockwise?

I don't think it matters after a case of beer.

Wait, I'll check. Andy! OII! Andy!

"Anyone who needs to drink more than 24 cans of beer in a day to have a good time is not welcome TF material.

FTFY

RexFlex 2008-09-07 06:24:40 AM
Well, I guess 24 cans of beer is enough for me. But what will the kids have to drink?

Gussie Fink-Nottle 2008-09-07 06:32:04 AM
No worries, mate ... the limit only applies to spectators, not drivers.

supernaturaltoe 2008-09-07 06:40:45 AM
Oh please let someone run over another 'roo. Who knew that they were such rubbery buggers.

That totally made my first Bathurst.

/will drink heavily regardless

dj42 2008-09-07 06:42:46 AM
So like, if you have 8 people in an SUV and all are adults, you can take 8-cases of full-strength beer?

That seems reasonable, but god it would be easy to hide flasks and pints all over your car.

dj42 2008-09-07 06:43:54 AM
Just an extra question I didn't consider, where and how do they check people? I'm confused by this article.

Is there a scanner you walk through with a beer-ray?

Or?

/god = FSM

Bathhurst is probabably the single best race-track in the world. You definitely don't go round in circles. It's got hills and twisty bits, and brilliant straights (one of which is downhill). It's one of the few that's even a lot of fun on a console game.

I can't see how they're gonna enforce this, though. The Ford and Holden (GM) mobs congregate up the top of the hill, with campervans, tents, enormous posters (including the awesome one that converted into a grandstand, from a couple of years ago) and copious, copious quantities of beer. Every bogan on earth (for the Brits, chavs - for the Seppos, rednecks) will congregate. For the Aussie bogan, it's like a cross between the Royal Rumble, the Daytona 500 and a Garth Brooks concert.

Only 1 slab per day?

OH NO!! WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO???

You forgot to mention that it also a public road when they are not racing on it.

Damn, I'm gonna have to watch it on TV instead.

That's what Listerine is for.

I guess you could have a case of 25 oz. Fosters or KB cans. that should be enough..

And when they are not racing on it, everyone else is.
I've driven the track in a 1978 Ford escort (you just have to ignore the fact it is a public road and watch out for police cars)

The_Original_Roxtar 2008-09-07 08:51:21 AM
at least it's a proper road course unlike that oval crap the rest of my countrymen watch.

Is the everbody supposed to be some kind of immortal (or time-traveling!) corpse, hereby instructed by subby to panic?

Mootmah and subby AND the mods all missed it! Oh well.

This is the closest thing to a greenlit racing thread right now, so here goes.

HOLY CRAP if you didn't watch it live, find a way to watch the last 2 laps of the Belgian Grand Prix today. This is the craziest thing I've seen in years.

mootmah [TotalFark] 2008-09-07 09:49:28 AM
Leave me alone. It's early and I'm not sober yet

Aww, Mootmah. Much love for the others who are not sober. ...wait, I'm typing? Whoa, need more sleep.

1 twelve pack is fine if the cans are those mini kegs.

Jeebus. Even in my prime I couldn't come close to that kind of intake. Seems a lot of people are superhuman.

But is there a limit on whisky?

Whitey Ford 2008-09-07 08:23:47 PM
I was at Bathurst last year during the race when they first brought this into effect, what some people don't realize is that many people actually camp at the racetrack for the weekend (5 days total) and more or less live in their tent for a week.

But still, it's one case, per person, per day. That's a lot of piss.

Most people should be grateful that they are allowed to take alcohol at all, as almost every single other venue does not allow you to byo.

Nah mate, you're just not an Aussie.

Bob Down: That's gonna take the edge off watching cars go round in circles.

That only happens in America. V8 Supercars is nothing like NASCAR here in the states. Well, it's what NASCAR could have been if it was all road courses and the technology of the cars was allowed to evolve past the 1970's.

Darth Nastyperson 2008-09-07 11:05:50 PM
The winner of the race will be driving a taxi, with either a GM badge or a Ford badge. No-one else cares.

/that's why they need the beer.

Not exactly. Can you imagine a Sydney cab driver at the wheel of a race-model V8?

/body count? huge
//but just Sydneysiders, so no great loss

I've just spent four days in Bathurst so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

\Didn't drink a slab a day.

Nuke Bathurst from orbit, followed by Canberra during Summernats.
Beer drinking bogans arguing over two "production" cars so close to each other they could follow the fans' lead and marry their sisters.

Bayliss FTW.

Watch Bathurst. 300kph down the side of a mountain, throttle to the floor, it puts NASCAR to shame!
