I guess sabre rattling Iran was getting boring and it's damn time we start antagonizing the big boys.

Time to party like it's 1982.

can we get some type of congressional injunction on these clowns to prevent them from doing anything for the rest of their term?

1) Way to ratchet up the tensions before the election, Condi!

2) Let us hope and pray Obama wins..and that the Bush Administration is long gone before we do anything.

How dare we not get into a nuclear agreement with the peace loving and honest government of Russia.

THIS

Nothing like starting another war; maybe they're hoping they can do better with a cold one. Hell, even if they can't, they'd get to increase the fear vote. I'm not saying that's their plan, but there's sure an appearance of impropriety going on (still).

My take on this (for what it's worth):

If there's nothing else that Condi Rice is highly qualified for it's dealing with the Former Soviets. She's been studying and analyzing them for the past two and a half decades (if not more). She understands them at several levels of their politics, culture and history.

Secondly, this agreement hasn't gone through yet so pulling out of it is basically maintaining the status quo at this point in time.

Lastly, having Russia supplying Iran with uranium right now kinda sounds like a Really Bad Idea™ to me.

Gavino 2008-09-07 01:47:39 AM
Radioactive Ass: Lastly, having Russia supplying Iran with uranium right now kinda sounds like a Really Bad Idea™ to me.

Me too. So why is she doing it when all that publically antagonising the Russians does is force them to publically withdraw from you*?

Condi's qualifications don't mean shiat if she's just John Bolton underneath, and I fear she is.

*for exactly the same reason that the U.S. egged on Georgia into attacking a Russian column.

Yeah, she's done a bang up job on U.S.-Russia relations so far.

Let's be frank, the only thing this woman is qualified to do is hold fundraisers at Stanford.

Her empty list of diplomatic accomplishments is glaring.

You know, I've been so focused on the election that I completely forgot that we've still got these other farkups still running the country. Can't we send them on vacation for a few more months? Or throw them in jail? I'm fine with either one.

Yeah, I don't think it's an either/or situation.

PoopStain: Ok you all, pay attention, because this was from the actual article:

I think our comments were based more on seeing Condi's name and realizing that we've been focused on the election and haven't really been paying attention to what the current administration has been doing while we've been asleep. Thanks for the enlightenment though I could do without the snark and the 16pt bold font.

I'm not big on guns, I gotta tell 'ya. Don't want to stop responsible people from owning them either - but that statement is just about the sanest, most rational view of the subject I've heard from anybody on either side...just wanted to give credit where it's due.

Remove all Republicans: Obama has said that he will negotiate with everyone. He knows better than to believe in the Bush administration's pretending like the US is somehow better than all these countries. What's the real difference between the US conduct and what Russia is doing?

Dude, you're like MoveOn.org. You're right, but you go about it in completely the wrong way and generally look like a jackass and make people who agree with you annoyed. This thread isn't about Obama. STFU.

OT - we had some young dude get killed around here a while back, and his myspace profile was all pictures of him giving the finger, and even his background pic was one giant pic of him with his middle finger up. I can't imagine what would have inspired a stranger to shoot him to death.

Condi Rice should have been the VP pick and not the PTA mom.
The most qualified woman in the country and the party and she is ignored because she isn't the right color for the redneck wing of the party. He needed something that would get their attention and he came up with a cunning stunt.
Someone just to the left of Fred Phelps in her beliefs and just to the right of Lynne Spears in her family values.

I think it had more to do with her ties to the Bush administration that anything else. It's hard enough to claim change when your party has been the one in power, it's even harder if your recycling people. If not for the Bush connection they probably would have loved to pick her, they could then pander to women AND blacks at the same time. Plus she does have experience, not experience of doing things well, but still experience.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Condi is a symbol of the current FAILministration, and McCain's people want to distance his image from that group of clowns as much as possible.

loser_death_spiral 2008-09-07 08:23:38 AM
This is all part of McCain's cunning plan. His running mate knows how to deal with Russia, whereas the pinko libruls Obama and Biden don't have a clue.

Truth be told, considering the state Russia has been in since the fall of the USSR that stuff would probably be safer in the hands of the Iranians than the Russians.

Yep, she is full of Wharrgarbbll!!11!1 and a shill for the military supply companies. Perpetual war is a huge part of the neo-fascist's economic plan (funding the super rich).

There is no such thing as diplomacy in neo-fascist thinking.

Thorndyke Barnhard 2008-09-07 11:48:04 AM
Well considering how easily the Republicans can dismiss any other commitment from Geneva convention to their own constitution, I don't think they considered any agreement with the Russians binding anyway.

Honoring America's commitments and principles is not really the Republican way. Integrity? F*ck that!

They want to bring us to the brink to scare the sheep into voting for McCain. It's time to ratchet up the fear.

Or in Bush's perfect world, just call off the elections all together.

What's really scary is that you're probably eligible to vote and you apparently are only informed by Fark headlines.

FTFA:

Even before Russia angered the Bush administration by invading Georgia last month, Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. Congress objected to the agreement. They expressed concerns that Russia has been providing uranium to help Iran build its first nuclear power plant. The U.S. and its European allies believe Iran is using the nuclear program to develop weapons, a charge Iran denies.

Yeah - we'll be at war if this agreement doesn't go through and it's all the evil Bush administration who is to blame.
